S.Amer. girls like being seen with Americans?
I read that in Brazil especially, girls don't want to be seen with Americans or other foreigners because many of the foreigners are there for prostitutes. So the girls don't want to be seen as prostitutes. Is that generally true, or does it vary from country to country and girl to girl? I'm thinking of visiting Brazil and Argentina in specific. If it's true, I guess I should try to blend in and switch my Dallas Cowboys cap for a Brazil soccer cap or something and talk more Spanish/Portuguese in public rather than English. On the other hand, I read that S.A. girls who speak some English like to be spoken to in English so they can practice. It's also more exotic for them to hear English spoken to them. Does it cut more one way than the other? In which country or city?

You will have bigger obstacles than this, if this is even the case.

Don't sweat it.

I agree with G. I didnt detect this at all in SA.

Maybe if you are a fat, pasty, poorly dressed 50 year old, she might feel that people will assume shes with you as a prostitute. But if you're a well dressed, fun guy with game, people will assume you're a cool guy and thats why shes with you.

I saw 5 Brazilian girls treating this one old man from S. Africa like he was a rockstar. He must have been about 65 or 70 years old. The Brazilian girls all looked to be in their 20s. They were amazed with his blue eyes and said they wish he would teach them English and could visit him in S. Africa and they acted surprised that there are white people in Africa. They were posing with him in pictures and stuff. He could've banged all 5 of them if he wanted to. At least a few of them were decent looking. Oddly, their English seemed just fine to me. Most Brazilian girls don't speak much English at all, except the richest ones who are don't need to be on Copacabana beach looking for foreign guys.

Yeah, in Rio's Zona Sul, the girls under 30, I would say 80% of them speak great English. I don't even bother opening in Portuguese anymore. And yes, they do like practice English.

I think it varies a whole lot from person to person and country to country. Anti-American sentiment was understandably much higher when Bush was in office but even then it was hardly an insurmountable obstacle, even with the nitty Argentine girls who will actually bring politics up in conversation.

Since Obama was elected the US has more of an image of progress and diplomacy than before. Polls suggest that the people of every south american country view the US as dramatically more favorable since the election. I do think this will definitely affect how American travellers are viewed.

The reason I voted for Obama.

Any one who likes girls and swooping girls traveling should have also voted that way.

(not to bring politics into this or anything)

Doesn't change that I hate Obama. He gets the Nobel for what he could do. Damn.
