My trip! (to Argentina and Brazil)
Hello,
Stumbled across this forum whilst looking for some alternative guides to Argentina and Brazil. I'm flying into Buenos Aires towards the end of February and flying out of Rio about a month later.
In order I will probably go to these places (by bus): Buenos Aires, Uruguay(montevideo), Cordoba, iguazu falls, florianopolis, Sao Paulo and finally Rio.
Can you think of places I should add or remove from my list, and also what places should I stay the longest or the shortest? I don't have to see everything.. to be honest Im just looking to have some good times, see a few sites, and experience the night life and chase some women.
If anyone can recommend some decent/fun/clean/central hostels in any of these areas Id be really grateful. Anything with a private room would be a massive bonus!
Im not that into tacky superclubs so if anyone knows any cool, alternative/indie type bars or nights I should know about let me know.
Sorry for all the questions but I just decided to put my finger down on the map and I know nothing about these countries.
One last question please....
Shall I leave the jumpers behind?.. will I be living in shorts and T-shirts the whole time?
Many thanks people.

What the hell are jumpers??

Yeah, dress sharp in BA when you go out.

Tees/shorts during the day are fine. And check the weather before you come.

Jumpers are sweatshirts!
right then.... had a good read through some of the threads on here. Lots of good stuff so thank you all for that.
I think its best I just take it day by day. ButI would like to book my first two hostels before I arrive so I know exactly what I'm doing. So can anyone recommend the best hostels to stay in buenos aires and cordoba? Am quite up for getting my own room as well. 2 weeks to go!
Also if anyone knows a couple of places to check out by night when I arrive that would be awesome. I should probably buy a guide but I find it takes the fun out of it.
Cheers guys.

Dress your best in SP.
You can stay in Formula Hotel. It's cheap (for a hotel), cozy and close of everything, e.g subway station and sights.

RE: My trip! (to Argentina and Brazil)
yes there seems to be a few formula 1 hostels. Which one?
Im trying to get a bit of inside info really... Imagine you were visiting London.. youd probably end up in a shit ass hostel in the west end somewhere 'close to all the action' !?!? . I have lived in London 6 years and have gone out there twice... not fun. Any place I have ever travelled to I have had to dig a bit deeper to find out where the good places are with the most interesting people. If you hang out in the town centers your just going to be hanging out with townies and other tourists. Is there barrio in Buenos aries where the cool kids go?

Formula 1 is not a hostel, it is a hotel. I would recomend the one in Vergueiro Street or the Formula Consolação. Both are close to Paulista Av. (there are sights such as Oscar Freire Str. - shopping, Augusta Str for (underground) parties and hookers, if you like shemales... lol... sorry, MASP (museum), good restaurants...

I stayed in Formula one Hotel in Rua da Consolação, São Paulo on a sunday night. The rooms are cheap and clean. There´s also tons of girls in the hotel.

Easy come, easy go!

Also, who goes to Augusta to party is not the regular gringo, although the strippers bars are full of them... The gringo who has B' friends is taken to Vl Olimpia (ew) night clubs.
I recommend to stay in this area because of downtown, it is close and safe, you can go everywhere (interesting places) by subway avoinding cabs (expensive).
Anyway, If you come to my beloved city IM me.

So the formula one hotel is the best value in Brazil? $60 a night is not bad, but still too much for an extended trip.

RE: My trip! (to Argentina and Brazil)
I´ve been to Via olimpia, it´s an expensive cab ride from Formula One (also the cab driver got "lost" some times). It was dead due to the fact we were there on a sunday, only Love was open. Like somebody said S. Paulo is a concrete jungle. But I enjoyed the architecture of Av. Paulista. The whole city seems safer than Rio, but the cab driver also didn´t stop in red signs, cause he was scared of being robed.
I have a friend that his crazy about S. Paulo. He´s a travelled dude. But S. Paulo for him is the best city in Brazil in terms of nighlife and girls.
Also hear that Maresias was a good spot to go near S. Paulo...

The proportion (not overall) of hotties was lesser than Floripa or Rio though.

Speakeasy I only stayed in S. Paulo for one night cause I was catching the plane for Lisbon next day. Up to 3 people can stay in the room. I was there with my wing so it end up $30 each. For a longer extended an apartament is probably a better option.

I have to do a major trip to Brazil for one month or two. A round the world trip is definitely on my mind...

Easy come, easy go!

Hunn... Maresias is not that close to SP... It is around 3 hours away, you can't go and go back that fast.
Yes, Maresias is a beach spot full of clubs with quality and rich people, the entrance may be up to 100 reais for man and around 80 for women.
For a longer trip, you may choose a flat I suppose. But in this area is very expensive to live... If you are intend to stay for a while, maybe Paraíso, Ana Rosa, Brigadeiro can be more suitable. (also around Paulista Avenue, but a little bit cheaper)

Look those adresses, If do you like some, send me the adress and I can tell if it is well located:

In Rio it sounds like you would dig Casa De Matriz. Definitely an Indi/Alternative type bar.
