1 yr stay in South America
Hi guys, Im flying from sydney to argentina ( as thats the cheapest place to fly to from here ) does anyone know how to or has anyone been able to get a return ticket for around 1 year? they all seem to stop at 12 months, I guess organizing visas would be a pain to, but i plan to go to every country (almost) in SA.

How do you long term stayers do it? Just bey one way tickets?

Sounds like you are new to long-term stay travelling. You should understand you might not want to stay as long as you originally planned. 12 months is a long time. It's ok to plan far into the future, but dont take those plans too seriously.

For long-term trips, flexibility is important, so I advise getting a one-way ticket (unless you need round trip for a visa, which is unlikely).

If the price of the one-way price is the same or similar as round trip, then shop around. If all airlines are charging the same for round trip as one way, just get the cheapest round trip ticket. When the return flight date is near, you can call your airline and change your return flight for a fee. For example you might be able to push back the date you originally wanted. The cost of the change for international flights is usually high ($250) so this option isn't ideal.

Argentina is a charming place. Girls are not easy, but there's a ton of nightlife. You'll have a nice time. It's good you are taking side trips to other countries in S America as other places have much easier women.

For visa reasons you are supposed to travel with a return ticket.
You could be obligated to buy a return ticket at the airport upon arrival. You are usually warned about this at the airport you depart from (Sydney).
For the 12 month thing, just buy a round-trip ticket for the maximum time frame allowed for the return (say 3 months). Then, call the airline before that date and change it...usually you can use it for 12 mos from that date. Obviously make sure the ticket you buy allows for changes.

You could also do an "open jaw" ticket, where you fly to BA but leave from another city, say Santiago.

As an American, I went to BA back in 2009 on a one-way ticket with no visa issue. My Canadian friend did the same (flying out of Montreal). I'm surprised that Australians have this requirement.

You can do it, but you're not supposed to, including for Americans or whoever depending on visa requirements. Since the Argentina tourist visa is 90 days, you are supposed to have a return ticket or ticket to leave the country within that time-frame. If you do not, they can require you to buy a ticket at the airport. They usually warn you about this when you're about to travel on a one-way ticket. Apart from this, the savings from buying a one way ticket is negligible so for economic reasons it's better to just buy a RT and change it.

one way tickets can be up to 80% of the price of a round trip. if your doing a year i dont see how you can get round trip. a round the world ticket probably would be most expensive. if you dont have a specific date in mind try to look for a charter flight from australia to a city in south america.

i wouldnt live in argentina ive been there and the spanish is very dificult to understand.(peru, colombia much easier) i lived in peru has a visa policy where tourist visas are 6mnths each time you cross the border.

That Tao of Steve states that, yes, all women will eventually be won over if you:
1.) Eliminate your desires.
2.) Do something excellent in her presence, thereby proving your sexual worthiness.
3.) Retreat, for as Heidegger said, "We pursue that which retreats from us".

Yeah, I wont be staying long in Argentina, only going there because its the cheapest place to fly to, and I have also pipe-lined a couple of girls, been skyping etc, for a few months, even got one to so a little strip tease for me down to the g string ( but she is actually Venezualan living there). Flights to south america from OZ are crazy expensive, its actually almost as cheap to fly to LA then down to South America. I will be spending most of my time in brazil , Colombia, Peru, and the Dominican Republic, perhaps LOTS of time in DR, with thanks to Ali, Emech and the boys for the infoSmile.

I have lived long term OS before but then I had the work visa for Canada.
