Question Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard
Even though I historically haven't been able to grow much of a beard, I stopped shaving a while ago out of laziness and, secondarily, to check in on the status of my follicles.

I've started to grow in a patchy-looking beard that's somewhere along these lines:

At best, it will get this full. I doubt it can go fuller than this:

Currently, there are some areas that are quite full (mustache and chin) and other areas (the cheeks and sideburns) that are really sparse--with many, but not sufficient--long-ish hairs coming in. I'm about four weeks in, and I'm noticing a wave of little hairs coming in between some of the longer ones, which tells me the beard is still coming in. I've been told that you should not judge it (or shape it, for that matter) for at least 6 weeks.

I've been getting mostly positive feedback from chicks for it--and, more importantly, I like it--so I'm going to see it through. I'm sure, like any other style decision, it will alienate some chicks while bringing in other prospects. I still don't know if I will wear it patchy or trim it down to just the parts that are full. The way I see it, it would be premature to decide to shave the spotty areas now.

Do any of you guys wear patchy beards? What are your recommendations for cleaning up/trimming this kind of set-up? What have been your experiences on net gains (or net losses), in terms of reception from girls, when you've worn your patchy beard?

Input appreciated.

^Ok, but I worry about my privacy, so I may have to take it down after a little while. Here's a good picture of the beard and everything.

In terms of what women find most attractive: Light beard/stubble>>>Clean shaven>full beard. There is some scientific data to back this up.

RE: Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard
I grow patchy bears too and for a while, about a year, I enjoyed wearing it. I don't think my game suffered because I think some girls liked it and some girls maybe did not but I think if your game is sharp if they are down they will over look it (Just like fat dudes with game, due can be a jolly giant but still pull dimes).

I got sick of it because of maintenance with my hair (clean shaven I can just get a line-up between cuts, beard its a whole process you gotta do at the barber), I thought it made me look older. I am trying to cling on too smashing these young and fresh 19-22 year olds so I buzzed the junk off the make me look younger which it did and it did help me game younger girls actually so I was happy. and it did help me to get back with those younger girls so I am happy. Its starting to grow back in now since I've been lazy but I think I'll keep it going for a few more weeks and see how things go.

I do know that the patchy beard is notorious for some African folks and for people whom may have Native, Asian, or African roots in their bloodlines. A good chunk of European's can grow beads while they take a shit its that easy for them, and a lot of Jamaicans can grew them well I find also.

The light stubble -- Full bead thing is true and I see it all the time with my homies whom can do both - Women always dig either of the two.

I shave twice a week followed by a facial scrub.
Smooth clean-shaven baby-soft face works for me.

I can grow a decent beard, but for some reason my moustache can't and won't connect with my beard, so it's always kind of hanging out there on it's own.

Some guys look better with facial hair and some guys look better clean shaven, I think every guy has to experiment with his look to figure out what works best. One thing though, I do think it's better for your skin to not shave too often, because dragging a razor across your face twice a week can't be great for you IMO. On the flip of that, guys who never shave and rock a beard would be better off shaving at least once a month to open up the pours and use some facial moisturizer.

It works
I used to have bald spots now they have grown completely, although i hasnt made my beard thicker as i would like.
Patchy beards sucked for me i would give it two months everytime to see if finally that time my follicles would activate somehow but it never did. It bothered me so much that i ended up in that forum after doing quite a research.

RE: Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard
I never had the issue with patchiness. My beard grew in full right away. I think if you're otherwise tight and put-together, the contrast of the patchy face makes you stand out. In terms of cleaning up certain areas...I would keep the mustache clean. If you see that little area on Keanu's face where the beard is kind of growing towards his cheekbone, I would trim that off. Otherwise, leave it alone if you don't mind waiting until the thin areas grow in.

I'm 34 and never sported the unshaven look because I don't have a full enough beard (or so I thought) I recently started going out with my patchy five-day growth and to my surprise it's been a great success. I love only shaving once or twice a week now (for work meetings ect)

I have a goat as my cheeks are patchy.

Thinking about shaving that off though as I lose about 5 or more years without it. Getting a fair bit of grey on my chin.

I can't grow a full beard. It looks like someone shoved an IED up a calico cats ass and it blew up on my face. I wear scruff and it looks fine. This pretty much sums up what I look like:

Girls always ask me to shave, and I will as it grows back in a few day, and they like the scruff much better. I think there is something to what _GQ_ mentioned about the scientific study. The scruff may add a few years, but the trade off is worth it.

RE: Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard
My beard sucks when I try and grow one. This sucks because I look younger than I am, which I guess I will appreciate in about 10 years. I grew my beard out last week a little bit. My girl said I should keep growing it to see how it looks. I ended up trimming it and cleaning it up. When she saw me next she said, "Please not, that looks ridiculous." Fail on the beard idea. Not to mention I started getting a patch of grey hair on my beard years ago when I was merely 23. I guess clean shave is just gonna have to work for me. I'm also thinking it's the best idea while I'm on my search of a job anyways.

Tuth, if it's working for you and YOU like it, then fuck it, keep it. Especially if you are getting a good response from the women.

PS, the keanu beard looks like shit.

That's pretty much exactly what I can grow as well. Only 21 though so I think in a couple years I'll be able to rock a full beard.

In my experience girls like most the 3-6 day period where you've got a bit of scruff but nothing too full on. Clean shaven makes me look like i'm 17

So far the only negative feedback I've gotten has been from dudes:

1. This fat dude I know with a 90s goatee and flakey dry skin around it (not credible)
2. His buddy, with a pitted face like Edward James Olmos (also not credible)
3. A gay dude I know who pretends not to be gay, but has tight style, always wearing cool brands and nice shit (credible)
4. Roosh (who is easily in the top 1 percent of hairy people in the world and doesn't understand the plight of the 99 percent)

The positive feedback, which I've gotten chiefly from chicks, includes these quotes:

"It makes you look manlier."

"You look older, but smarter."

"I didn't recognize you." (girl was silently looking me up and down across the room--as in checking me out--when I said "aren't you going to say hi.")

"It adds a solid .5 point to your out-of-10 rating." (To be fair, I solicited this input)

"You look like my dad. I want to suck your dick like I did his."

(I made that last one up.)

EDIT: Earlier today, I day-gamed a girl at the supermarket and asked her if what she thought of my patchy beard for the fuck of it. She said she didn't know me otherwise, but that she liked it.

RE: Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard
I love beard challenges. I'm no Roosh but in a week I'll have half a full beard while you've barely grown in your patches. Don't even bother. Leave the facial hair to guys who can grow it. Seriously, if you don't have it half grown in after a week just keep your face baby smooth, there's no shame in that... well only the shame that you can't grow a real beard. We always want what we can't have...

Save it for when all the power really goes out, then it's more about your survival skills, although I got you beat there too, haha...

Edit: well, I got you beat if you don't know how to hunt, kill, and skin an animal and cook it over a fire and use its' parts for clothes, gloves, hats etc...

Every once and awhile I will grow my beard out. It's curly and unruly and it makes me look like a terrorist.

Stubble is the way to go imo. I like the Wahl razor.
