Anyone familiar with this telenovela? I think it's Colombian.

Is any part of this series at all, in any way shape or form, representative of what Colombia is like? Or is it like judging America based on Desperate Housewives?

I am VERY familiar with this Telenovela as many of the Colombian girls I banged 5 years ago watched it. I personally do not watch telenovelas, I am a man. However, from what I was told by my girls is that it basically focuses on women of Pereira, and how getting plastic breast inserts leads to wealth and power amongst Colombia's elite social circles, drug kingpins and a way out of starvation and poverty.

Actually, it is a VERY good indicator of what Colombia is like as breast surgery is the most sought after surgery by Colombian women by the time they are 15 years of age.

To give you an example of a very well known comparison.

In America, a 16 year old girl will ask her parents for a new Iphone as a sweet-sixteen birthday present. In Colombia, a girl the same age (15) will ask for breast implants as a birthday present.

Every Colombian soap opera is steamy and full of sex scenes, but by no means is it anything that will lead you to go jerk off....and you do see some incredibly hot women, but never fully naked. Bathing suits and sexy lingerie is about as far as it goes.

I will never tell a man to go watch a telenovela to get his kicks, instead I'd point him to youporn and query "Colombian girl". Much better use of your time.

colombians must have some sort of obsession with pro's

when i was in cali there were these constant ads on tv for a belgian TV show called matroesjka's - which is about girls from eastern europe (and in the second season thailand) who are brought to mechelen (belgium) under false pretenses and then forced into prostitution

Yes, they do have an obsession with Pros. In Colombia, pros are called "prepagos" that translates to "prepaid {women}". The obsession dates back to Pablo Escobar days, when women were taken from being dirt-poor to having their own late-model Merdes Benz for being the "Pre-paid Girlfriend" of a drug lord. The prepago "profession" was born in Pereira, Colombia in the late 80's - which the Soap Opera that this thread is about focuses on.

As tourists from other countries started visiting Colombia, it became an even greater passion as prepagos were being imported to other countries in EU and USA, and even proposed marriage by wealthy (and lonely) business men. The old turning a ho into a housewife story.

So, in Colombia, prepagos are glorified escorts. They are to be the ones with the best ($$$) clothes, the best lifestyle, and they get to pick and choose who they fuck to obtain a glamorous life that Sheila E use to sing about back in 1984.

Prepagos are at the top tier/level of the hooker totem pole. There is indeed a "pecking order". Prepagos are not to be confused with common streetwalker hookers, or hookers that work in stripclubs. Those are at the bottom.

Prepagos are at the very top of glorified version of what girls fantasize about. Usually the girls that fantasize about being a prepago are the ones born into poverty, which constitutes 80% of Colombian women. Prepagos are the ones you see "dating" rich and powerful local and foreign business men, and top tier druglords.

Today, there are different levels of "prepagos". It has evolved into what we now know as "soft prepagos"; meaning girls that will fuck middle-class men for clothes, movie dates, nights out dancing, and occasional nice dinner for her and her family, her tuition money, pay the utilities etc. However, do not even dare call her a prepago or she will slap you, and then start crying.

The most famous prepago of all time in Colombia is a woman named Natalia Paris. She is said to have dated every rich druglord of the 90's, and today, owns her own clothing line, and is incredibly wealthy with her company being said to be net worth $100M USD. I can only speculate she uses that to launder lots of drug money as she learned from the very best.
