When quoting another member
When quoting another forum member, for the ease of everyone else reading it is helpful to quote only the relevant portion of their text. Quoting long posts in full detracts from the flow of the thread rather than improving clarity.

Just delete the irrelevant portions of the quotation before you post, using ellipsis points if needed. If you want to reply to a post in general, rather than a specific portion of it, you can even just address the user by name. This improves the ease of reading and detracts from the amount of repeat content that has to be scrolled through.

Like this:

Or even abbreviate it, like @EC instead of Emperor Constantine.

Or:
other person Wrote:@EC, that's a good idea. Also, I think it would be helpful if... *idea here*

On the other hand, here's how to instantly destroy the flow of the thread:
Emperor Constantine Wrote:The lizard people are *four paragraphs of text*
other person Wrote:That's not what they're like in *eight paragraphs of text*
Emperor Constantine Wrote:Well, that would be the case if *five paragraphs of text*
other person Wrote:But is their night vision really *two paragraphs of text*
Emperor Constantine Wrote:This one time *six paragraphs of text*
other person Wrote:I splashed one with holy water but *one paragraph of text*

Everyone's a wise ass... I agree with Constantine. This has been a peeve of mine on the forum from the beginning. Scrolling through quotes of requotes gets pretty tedious.

At least take out the .gifs, Youtube clips & embedded tweets.

No need to see the same of the above ten times over on the same page.

This problem should automatically be fixed by the new software. There will be a "Click to expand" link for long quotes.

Okay

Good idea

I want to know more about the lizard people. Sounds interesting.

I always do this instinctively. Where's my pat on the back?
