Honest question. Does wine actually taste any better with age and/or price? I've always believed wine tasting to be one of the most bullshit professions ever, but I'd love to hear if your experience is the opposite of that.

There's no hard and fast rules, but generally yes.

Regarding age, some wines need age and get better with age, to a point of course. There is a combination of tannin, alcohol, sugar, and acidity that affects how a wine ages and if it will improve or not. There are no hard and fast rules here; there are 30 year old champagnes and other white wines that can be incredibly delicious. Barolo absolutely needs age, generally at least 10 years. Most Rioja producers age the wine for you; it is expected in that culture that when you purchase the wine, it's ready to drink. This is not the case in many French wine regions, where you would expect to age most wines. Many French wines can be drunk young, but to do so with an expensive vintage would be something of a waste; you would want to drink it in its prime, say 10-20 years in the bottle. For this you need either a wine fridge, a cellar, or to store it in a wine locker.

Regarding price...like all things economic, the value of a wine is entirely subjective. Expensive wines generally are that much more labor intensive and are often, but definitely not always, more delicious, nuanced, and representative of the variety and region from which they're produced. There's a MASSIVE difference, in fact there's almost nothing in common with a mass produced commercial wine versus one made by hand. Completely different process and philosophy. There is absolutely marketing in the wine world, with cult wines, and demand for certain wines ridiculously inflated by the world's oligarchs who consume these wines blindly for the sheer status associated with them.

That said, speaking for my own budget and what I'm willing to spend, my cutoff is around $100. Beyond $100, my enjoyment of wine reaches a limit. For $100 I can drink insanely delicious wines that to spend more would be hard to justify. There are rare exceptions to this, like Chateau d'Yquem. This is a dessert with that ages well and runs $200-$1000 depending on the vintage. It's like drinking liquid fucking sunshine and every time I drink it, regardless of the price or vintage, I think, "Goddamn this is worth it."

The $2,000 wine I was drinking last night was a 2015 Domaine de la Romanee Conti (DRC for short in the wine world) Grands Echezeaux. DRC is the most expensive producer in Burgundy, and therefor possibly the world. They make several wines, the Romanee Conti vineyard (same name as producer) costs $22,000 per BOTTLE. The Grands Echezeaux runs around $2k as mentioned and they have 4 or 5 other vineyards they produce from.

Is it worth it? To me, no. The 2015 is an excellent vintage but it was a little hot in the glass, which is to say, had a little alcoholic burn. A wine at that price should be flawless, which this was not. And that's not how wine works anyway. These insanely rare and expensive wines are prone to the some of the same flaws that cheaper wines have. But when a wine is hot, that means it needs to age, and it was stupid for these people to be drinking this vintage when they could have easily afforded a separate vintage. Finding 2 cases of it for a party is another story. So could the 2015 DRC Grands Echezeaux shape up to be a flawless wine after 10 years in the bottle? Possibly, or close to flawless. So if you're a collector and wealthy as fuck, you buy a case and sit on it and wait to find out. That's part of the fun.

At this same party was a 2003 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, which is valued at about $1200. Was this worth it? Again, no, but I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the DRC because it was drinking BEAUTIFULLY, right in it's prime. You really really have to enjoy wine and have experience drinking wine to appreciate them at this level. Again, I would never spend close to this much of my own money. To truly appreciate these wines you also have to know something about French wine, that is Burgundy (the DRC) and Bordeaux (the Lafite). The difference between left bank/right bank Bordeaux, the different crus, the grapes, the history, the terroir. Completely different than Burgundy

My most expensive bottles cap at $120 or so. I also drink wine almost daily, usually wines in the $20-45 range, that are wholly enjoyable but nothing to brag about, yet well selected and wines that you won't find at Trader Joes or any grocery store, but there's a whole wine thread that doesn't get used for that discussion. Wine is worth it once you identify the types of wine you like to drink, once you educate yourself on that region, and once you learn what to buy. It is one of my favorite hobbies and is a rabbit hole unlike anything you can possibly imagine, but I understand the skepticism from the sidelines as to whether or not it's worth it. On one hand, it's a ritual dating back to ancient Greeks and wine represents a type of time travel, allowing a drinker to travel to a different time and place. On the other hand, it's just fermented grape juice.

I had some of the finest wine today. It was from the Morgan David vineyard. I think the year was 2020.

Then, the sommelier suggested Busch Beer as a digestif. Several of the 25 ounce varieties, which is the spice of life.

Aloha!

Thats the wrong question. It should be obvious that none of these celebrities win awards due to the merit of their "art", they are given them for their service to the cause. With this in mind, she thoroughly deserves it - who has done more to promote thottery this year than cardi b?

8:25 minute mark of this 'celebrity' interrupts other 'celebrities' interview :

Jack Nicholson steps in camera view to take a good look at Jennifer Lawrence.
Jennifer gets a touch star-struck as a result when sighting Jack.

Jack : "You looked like an old girlfriend of mine."

Jennifer : "Oh really? Do I look like a new girlfriend?"

Jack as he walks off smirking : "I though about it..."

Jennifer - continues to be star-struck.

RE: Forum "Lounge" - Everything goes!
I live in this building with several apartments...

Last night, I hear someone screaming "UUUuueehhh" *pause 10 seconds* "UUUuueehhh" repeatedly. After about 4 minutes I open my door to see what the hell is going on outside and I see this 30-year-old something guy in the corridor who is walking like he literally had turned into a zombie. Back and forth.

He was struggling to walk and his body had these muscle spasms.

He was completely in his own world and tried to crawl on walls, a minute later he wanted to lay down and he just kept screaming constantly with a pause in between.

Me and two other guys eventually held him down and someone called an ambulance while he just kept being in this state.
His eyes were open but he just looked through us as he saw something completely different in his own world and he looked so frightened. It was really scary to see and sort of helpless because he was in another world.

The ambulance came and they took him to the hospital. And sometime later during the night I just heard the owner of the building saying that he had heard the guy was in really bad shape in the hospital and would probably die.

But I wonder what the fuck that was about?

I suppose an overdose of drugs, but what kind of substance would give such a strange zombie reaction?

RE: Forum "Lounge" - Everything goes!
Fascinating article by a woman who taught French at inner-city high schools in NYC.

https://quillette.com/2019/02/10/public-...ty-secret/

Quote:The abuse from students never let up. We were trained to absorb it. By the time I left, however, I had a large folder full of the complaint forms I’d filled out documenting the most egregious insults and harassment. There was a long process to go through each time. The student had a parent or other representative to state their case at the eventual hearing and I had my union rep. I lost every case.

Actually, the girls were meaner than the boys. The latter did not engage at all. They simply ignored me. Except for the delinquents among them, the boys didn’t make trouble. The girls on the other hand could be malicious. One girl even called me a “fucking white bitch.” It was confidence-destroying and extremely stressful. I was often reported to the principal for one transgression or another, like taking a sheet of paper from a student. Once I was even reprimanded for calmly taking my own cellphone from a girl who’d held on to it for half an hour, refusing all my requests to hand it back. The administration was consistently on the side of the student. The teacher was the fall guy, every time.

Then there is this part Laugh
Quote:Sometimes you just have had enough. One day a girl sitting towards the back of the classroom shouted at some boy up front, “Yo! Nigga! Stop that!” I stood up as tall as I could and said in my most supercilious voice, “I don’t know which particular nigga the young lady is referring to, but whoever it is, would you please stop it.” The kids couldn’t believe their ears:

“Yo, miss! You can’t say that!”
“Why not? You say it all the time.”
“Uhh… Because you’re old.”
“That’s not why. Come on, tell the truth.”

What struck me is the she's most "millenial" girl I've ever banged. 27yo Mexican chick. I really wanted to start talking about my support for Trump but didn't want the rape accusation that could have come with that.

There was an edge about her that I'm not used to. At this point in the game I've come across many personality types and have learned to adapt to each quite well. She was the first one in a very long time where I've been caught off guard. At some points it was like talking to a robot, and writing this now I realize she was probably heavily dosed on psych meds.

She checked off so many red flags it was crazy. Career chick. Never wants kids. Terrible relationship with parents. Lives w 2 dogs. Talks about her dogs. Talked about exes. Meets up with fuckboy like me and bangs the first night raw.

I don't like the way it makes me feel. I'm no longer going for ons unless the chemistry is legitimately there, and I'm going to try to be more discriminating when it comes to damaged goods like these chicks. She was really hot though.

This is the key point. I've recently talked about this with another forum member. The hotter a girl is the more shit you will overlook or hoops you will jump through (if shes super hot) to smash. Men are simple creatures

Ah it's even better than "Thank u, next". I've noticed they're really using her to directly issue orders to the female populace. It's not even vague, just direct "do this and be a super desirable diva star like me" kind of song titles. Whatever, if the female populace wants to utterly and wholly embrace acting like an entitled whore then fine, it's long overdue. As is the male populace getting tired of putting up with this nonsense, lets get this over with already.

I never saw what the big deal with this girl was either. She looks like she made it 1 year into puberty and then just stopped there.

Paris Hilton Is Ready To Be A Mom

According to Heat magazine, after her split from her ex-fiancée Chris Zylka, she’s off with men.

“Paris is off men. She was so sure Chris was The One, and now she feels she got it completely wrong,” a source said.
“She sees what (her sister) Nicky has with her husband and two kids, and she’s jealous. So, now she’s reached out to a sperm-donor agency.”
“She is seeking an anonymous donor with extremely good looks, high IQ, and from a family with a top pedigree,” a source said. “There’s a hitch though, in that donors don’t tend to be millionaire backgrounds. After all, rich people don’t need to sell their sperm.”
“She feels like being a single mum really goes well with her image of a can-do-it-all businesswoman who doesn’t need a man to succeed,” a source concluded.
