No sugar, porn or masturbation Challenge for August only
The no sugar, porn or masturbation challenge is for August 2019 only.

Some basic rules:

-You can eat fruits but no dried fruits. However in the last week - try to eliminate fruits also. Not a requirement though -- more important to complete the 4 weeks.

- If you fall off, go easy on yourself but get back on the program soon as you can.

- You can have sex with a girl but no hooker.

That is really it.

Also keep positive -- give quality feedback and support to others.

August will come and go before you know it.

Remember the first three days are the hardest. Sugar cravings will go crazy. But after the third day it gets more easy. After a week, it becomes normal. After a month eating sugar or watching porn will seem unnatural. But sugar and porn are addictive - if you start indulging you know what will happen.

If you get strong sugar cravings, eat sweet apples and then after have some carbonated water.

Who is up for the challenge?

Good thing I indulged in some sugar the past two weeks to help me rid of craving (it helps when you don't consume it on a regular basis in the first place) and was setting up for a month of no sugar or carb except for those from vegetables. I'll get rid of mild candida for once and all. I expect some mild to severe reactions. The toxins released from dying candida are real bitches to deal with.

Porn...I'd l relapse occasionally and hate that shit.

I'm starting a week earlier, as of tomorrow.

it is up to you but August is only one week away. Maybe better to with go with the flow of the group. Go easy and don't do anything too hard or extreme. Just complete August only and no more.

Basically you gotta read every label before you buy or eat anything.
That's what I do.
First time shopping like that took me 3 hours to fill my cart....but now I know which products really have no added sugar (or sugar by another name) in them.
Worth the effort.

I'm all for improving yourself, and we need to start somewhere, don't get me wrong. I have bad habits to deal with too.

What helps more is to change your lifestyle as a whole and to think long term, and also to not be so black and white about it.

This definitely caught my eye.

I'm on day 10 of:

-No weed (18 years)
-No cigs (only smoked 2 a day with coffee for the last 3 years, but still that's bs)
-No candy, chips, or sweet baked goods
-NOFAP or porn
-No morning coffee (save $) though I've used caffeine pills + coconut oil instead

Clear mind. Moodiness is gone. Real even keeled and chill. I feel like a different dude and I think some of those habits may have been huge life altering mistakes to where it's hard to admit or discuss.

All this shit is a distraction. It fills up time. I never realized how I was using these activities to distract myself from addressing real issues in my life. Once you toss away the distractions you can't hide from your thoughts and the days become "longer".

I advise all to try the "challenge". I did all this because I had downloaded a habit tracker and somehow it all clicked with me and I decided to go all in. Seeing the little colorful check marks each day on some app is more satisfying than I ever thought. I can't break the streak. Discipline=freedom.

Funny thing is, I think at a certain point I won't want to use it because I've caught myself not even thinking of a few of these habits until I see them on the tracker.

Never been a big drinker. Haven't even had one in maybe a year and that was a beer while watching a ballgame. I could have it on the list as well without effort. Never been an issue so it didn't even come to mind. Technically one could say I don't even drink. I could be fine if I never had a drink for the rest of my life.

Never said weed was "bad" or implied it was. If I've smoked for 18 years that probably hints at me being a stoner and pro-weed guy, so not sure why you would say that. Weed might have been a bad decision for me long term and in regards to the amount I've smoked, but everyone has their own issues. Some smoke a joint a week and are fine. Others daily 2-3x to where it might effect their lives. You get my drift.

Only the first three days are going to hard of no sugar. After it gets more easy. After seven days, sugar starts to feel unnatural for the body and it is more easy to do without.

It is impossible to totally eliminate it as it is in all processed foods. You don't have to be so strict. Have your processed foods with sugar.

The goal is to stick it out for one month. Over strictness will likely make you quit.

Come on, avoiding sugar is easy as hell.

Meats, nuts, vegetables. Coconut oil if necessary just for August (oil of any type isn't good to use long term)

Butter!!

Breads are to be avoided at all costs anyway, unless they are sprouted and made traditional way. That goes for any type of grain as well.

If you include nuts, make sure to soak them overnight and add apple cider vinegar to break down antinutrients and make them easier to digest

Balance it with omega 3 though. You want to have 1:1 to 1: 4 omega 3 to 6 ratio.

I wouldn't cut fruits, just avoid sweet fruit juices like orange, apple and pineapple. The health benefits of eating fruits definitely outweigh the downsides, and mid/late summer is a great time to enjoy a variety of fresh local fruits. Eating fruits for dessert is also a great way to replace sweet desserts like ice cream or baked desserts.

If you must cut back, stick with more tart and/or high fiber fruits like raspberries, apricots or more tart varieties of apples (which will be in season by late august).

I went without sugary desserts and candy for nearly 6 months. The first time I had some chocolate, it felt so sweet on my mouth it almost burned my palate.

I'm not too worried about added sugars since I'm not eating yogurt and breakfast cereals anyway, and if there's a little bit of sugar in pasta sauce or whatever I don't really care. I also don't drink soft drinks or other sweetened drinks. The most important thing for me is eliminating sugary snacks (cookies, cake, other sweets.)

As an additional challenge, I'll add that I'm not going to eat salty junk food like potato chips for snacks.

Just a heads up that cutting out sugar can be risky - I tried it once and got really ill. 3 years later I still have long term effects from it, most noticeably I can't have caffeine any more. That sucks as I used to love coffee.

I think what happened is that cutting sugar at the same time I had major job stress seems to have made my body go into extreme panic when I drink coffee, go low carb or get super stressed from life. Once your body associates stuff with stuff it's really hard to come back without maybe CBT or something.

Also an ex-colleague of mine went vegan and it's pretty much destroyed her life. Sadly she hasn't made the connection between diet and health.

You should definitely not change your diet if your life is in flux! Wait for relative stability.

One thing I do know is that cutting out sugary drinks really does make a huge difference to your overall sugar intake. I suspect sugar from drinks is rapidly absorbed into the body. Sugar in chocolate or lollipops is a lot more slowly absorbed. I think food packet calorie counts etc. are meaningless as some foods are harder to digest and it also depends what you eat in combination. When I went super low sugar I ate a lot of nuts but I'm starting to think that the body can use only a small percentage of the theoretical calorie count they contain.

Oh I'm a PhD food scientist btw. This stuff still confuses me though. The body is a mysterious thing.

Is sugar even bad? Watch the Warren Buffett interview about Cherry Cola on Youtube and you might be pursuaded to change your mindset!

I'm making better progress with cutting out alcohol. I've started drinking on alternate days and now I'm really noticing how good it feels. I might regress to alcohol only at weekends, and then maybe only on special occasions. Maybe this is the way to go when it comes to changing diets.

I cut most sugar out of my diet 3 years ago. No fruit unless it's local and in season, definitely no pop or candy, only having the occasional treat. Best thing I ever did in my life.

Ive been working on cutting out porn and masturbating, it's drastically down from where I was, only every few weeks. Currently 58 days no porn no masturbating, it's great.

I'm on a roll here, might as well carry on into August. Let's do it!

Porn is my biggest addiction ever. I tried many times to stop it and couldn't do it. But I'm now living with my girlfriend and our Baby and even if I wanted to, it's almost impossible to watch porn now without getting "caught". Also I simply find it weird to look at naked women getting banged when I have a child now. It's just not right. Owen Benjamin also was a "regular porn user" and he talked about how he out of being bored in Hotels alone on tour, just wanked off and after he got a family, its just feels wrong and it's a good chance to finally quit it. I hope I will finaly stop porn it did a lot of harm on my soul.

Alcohol I also stopped since having a relationship. I mostly got drunk to tolerate people and boring dates. No reason to step a foot inside a club anymore. At home I prefer a nice fruit juice over a beer anyway.

Sugar Im already on a good path but like others said, it's almost in anything. It's ridiculous.
