Add This to the List of Reasons Why Fluoridated Water is FUCKED UP
I know that since many people haven't done the in-depth research they like to believe there is no science behind how FUCKED UP water fluoridation is, but there is PLENTY Here's one that should be significant to the people here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12865044
Fluoride-induced disruption of reproductive hormones in men. Environ Res. 2003 Sep;93(1):20-30.

The high-fluoride-exposed group (HFEG) experienced diminished free testosterone.

HOW ABOUT THIS ONE:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8618252
Circulating testosterone levels in skeletal fluorosis patients. J Toxicol Clin Toxicol. 1996;34(2):183-9.

"RESULTS: Circulating serum testosterones in skeletal fluorosis patients were significantly lower than those of Control 1 at p < 0.01. Testosterone concentrations of Control 2 were also lower than those of Control 1 at p < 0.05 but were higher than those of the patient group."

Ok, but does it really matter?
Is any going impotent?
Are they unable to gain muscles mass?
Anyone here feeling more and more like a woman due to the amount of fluoridated water they consume?

Maybe it is all part of the CIA controlling us, but wouldn't it be easier with scopolamine?

Typical fluoride levels are 0.7-1.2 mg/l. If you're drinking 13 cups of water a day (3 l), then you're taking in at most 3.6 mg, and more likely half that if your water utility is following the CDC guidelines.

In your first citation, the high F group was consuming anywhere from 3-27 mg a day. How do you consume 27 mg of F? Sprinkle it on your cereal?

I'm not even going to bother with the second link. I assume it suffers from the safe defect.

Does it really matter??? Are you sincerely asking whether or not exposure toxins that decrease your testosterone matters???
Of course it matters, as decreased testosterone will inevitably lead to all that you named, plus a host of other debilitating conditions. Plus, fluoride has been indicated to be generally disastrous for the human body overall.

Analysis of the effect of fluoride on male infertility in regions with reported high level of fluoride (endemic fluorosis). Journal of the Medical Institute of Suzhou 8(4):297-99.

"A survey was made on fluoride contents in drinking water, mattled enamel, bone fluorosis, fluoride concentration in human spermatic fluid, and male infertility in fluoric area in Xinjiang Province. Is suggested that the fluorosis may be associated with human male infertility in fluoric areas."

Effect of inorganic fluorine compounds on the functional state of the pituitary-testis system. Probl Endokrinol (Mosk). 1977 Jul-Aug;23(4):104-7.

"In comparison with healthy individuals testosterone content proved to be decreased and FSH content elevated in patients with fluorosis. Blood LH content was increased only in those patients with fluorosis who had long contact with fluorine compounds (over 15 years). The changes in the blood hormone concentration were connected with disturbances of the hormonal, and, possibly, of the germenative function of the testes. The hypophysis proved to suffer less, and the changes of its function were apparently secondary in character."

Exposure to high fluoride concentrations in drinking water is associated with decreased birth rates. J Toxicol Environ Health. 1994 May;42(1):109-21.

"A U.S. database of drinking water systems was used to identify index counties with water systems reporting fluoride levels of at least 3 ppm. These and adjacent counties were grouped in 30 regions spread over 9 states… Most regions showed an association of decreasing TFR [Total Fertility Rate] with increasing fluoride levels. Meta-analysis of the region-specific results confirmed that the combined result was a negative TFR/fluoride association with a consensus combined p value of .0002-.0004, depending on the analytical scenario. There is no evidence that this outcome resulted from selection bias, inaccurate data, or improper analytical methods."

Effect of High Water Fluoride Concentration on the Intellectual Development of Children in Makoo/Iran. J Dent (Tehran) 2012 Summer; 9(3): 221–229.

"CONCLUSION: Children residing in areas with higher than normal water fluoride levels demonstrated more impaired development of intelligence. Thus, children’s intelligence may be affected by high water fluoride levels."

Effect of fluoride exposure on the intelligence of school children in Madhya Pradesh, India. J Neurosci Rural Pract 2012 May;3(2):144-9.

"CONCLUSION: Children in endemic areas of fluorosis are at risk for impaired development of intelligence."

Chronic kidney diseases of uncertain etiology (CKDue) in Sri Lanka: geographic distribution and environmental implications. Environ Geochem Health 2011 Jun;33(3):267-78.

"... it is very likely that the unique hydrogeochemistry of the drinking water is closely associated with the incidence of the disease... Interestingly, the CKDue [chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology] prevalent regions in the country overlap with the high groundwater fluoride zone of Sri Lanka suggested by Dissanayake (1996), indicating that at least to some extent, the fluoride content of drinking water may contribute to the CKDue in Sri Lanka."

Dose-dependent Na and Ca in fluoride-rich drinking water--another major cause of chronic renal failure in tropical arid regions. Sci Total Environ. 2011 Jan 15;409(4):671-5.

"This study provides new insights that inorganic fluoride intake can cause a considerable nephrotoxic effect on human proximal tubular cells, but this toxicity depends strongly on Na+ and Ca2+ activities."

The dose-effect relationship of water fluoride levels and renal damage in children. Wei Sheng Yan Jiu. 2005 May;34(3):287-8.

"CONCLUSION: Over 2.0 mg/L fluoride in drinking water can cause renal damage in children, and the damage degree increases with the drinking water fluoride content. Renal damage degree is not related to whether the children suffered from dental fluorosis and mainly due to water fluoride concentration.

Association of vascular fluoride uptake with vascular calcification and coronary artery disease. Nucl Med Commun. 2012 Jan;33(1):14-20.

"Significant correlation between fluoride uptake and calcification was observed in most of the arterial walls, except in those of the abdominal aorta... There was significant correlation between history of cardiovascular events and presence of fluoride uptake in coronary arteries. The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events..."

Aortic elasticity is impaired in patients with endemic fluorosis. Biol Trace Elem Res. 2010 Feb;133(2):121-7.

"... the decrease in elastic properties of the aorta in patients with chronic f luorosis might be due to calcification and degeneration of smooth muscle fibers in the tunica media of the aorta. The results of our study demonstrate that elastic properties of ascending aorta are impaired in patients with endemic fluorosis."

Mon, are you a scientist? If not, you're underqualified to be reading scientific papers.

These are talking about high fluoride levels, oftentimes due to well water. Not the small amount of fluoride they add to drinking water.

"... clearly... low doses cannot be ignored... Whether low doses of endocrine-disrupting compounds influence human disorders is no longer conjecture, as epidemiological studies show that environmental exposures are associated with human diseases and disabilities."

Laura Vandenberg, a post-doctoral fellow at Tufts University’s Levin Lab Center for Regenerative and Developmental Biology and lead author of this study, also said in an interview:
"There truly are no safe doses for chemicals that act like hormones, because the endocrine system is designed to act at very low doses."

The monotonic model of toxicology (the belief that the response of the person or animal should go up or down with the dose) has to be thrown out the window when we're talking about compounds that disrupt hormones.

You're misrepresenting what that guy is saying.

There's no safe dose of radiation either, but we know that a certain amount of sun exposure is good for you.

While fluoride at low levels will have an effect, the positive effects outweigh the negative.

RE: Add This to the List of Reasons Why Fluoridated Water is FUCKED UP
Plain & simply, fluoridation was a product of the Atomic Bomb Program. The first lawsuits brought against this program were not about radiation, but fluoride poisoning. As a means to not pay out CRAZY amounts of money as a result of the lawsuits, they dumped it in the water and called it "safe."
The original "proof" that water fluoridation was "safe" came from scientists of this program who were ordered, according to now declassified WWII documents, to come up with "evidence useful in litigation," under a program named "Program F."
According to these now declassified documents, the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) censored the originally published (1948) test results showing that fluoride is FUCKED UP.

As far as U.S. amounts being safe, it was written in an editorial in the Journal of the American Dental Association:
"Drinking water containing as little as 1.2 ppm fluoride will cause developmental disturbances. We cannot run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances. The potentialities for harm outweigh those for good."

Lita Lee, Ph.D., wrote in her paper, Fluoride--A Modern Toxic Waste:
"The U.S. Center for Disease Control and the Safe Water Foundation reported that 30,000 to 50,000 excess deaths occur in the United States each year in areas in which the water contains only one ppm fluoride ..."

I wrote this a while back --

(07-30-2013 12:28 AM)Hades Wrote:  There's a good reason why all the studies showing that fluoridated water prevents tooth decay were all done in the early 1900s, and that's because drinking fluoride doesn't do anything. Half of it settles in your skeletal system, where it accumulates as a loose crystalline matrix, while the other half is pissed out. Fluoride is nonessential.
It's been shown that fluoridated water increases bone cancer in pubescent males.
If I recall correctly, Germany quit fluoridating their water because it causes serious health issues in people with impaired kidneys.

Topical application of fluoride does benefit teeth, however. There's nothing wrong with fluoride toothpaste as long as you don't eat it.

The gist of it though is that water is fluoridated because it's cheaper to dump this shit in the water supply (selling it to municipalities at hilariously high rates) than pay money to dispose of it properly. It's a byproduct of the aluminum industry.

However, I don't think fluoride causes cancer or is the reason why Ireland had health problems. For the most part, fluoride just doesn't do what people claim it does and harms some people.

Another thing you want to keep in mind, OP, is that bottled water also has fluoride in it. So does soda, canned soups (in highly concentrated amounts), pretty much any liquid foodstuff - manufacturing plants always go the cheap route and use otherwise drinkable tap water, filtering the fluoride out of it is just an expense that makes them that much less competitive.

From what I talked to my dentist - it does have a positive effect on children, but about 15+ there's no noticeable effect at all. She also agreed that the science behind proving it works is terrible.

I know people from up north in Canada who are older. They all said fluoride brought in in the 50s/60s was one of the major reasons people's teeth improved as kids. Apparently very noticeable.

I've been using a home water distiller (h20 labs brand) for a year now. You should see the shit that I clean out of that thing. It makes you think.
I'll still eat food prepared by other people using tap water, but if tap is your only source of drinking water, at least get a R/O filter.

You really shouldn't be drinking municipal water anyway, because of the high levels of Chlorine, Heavy Metals and PCB's etc... which surely are not doing anyone any good.

I consider any amount of syntheic fluorine compounds to be deletarious to my health and wellbeing.

People write on here about why their energy levels are low and so on, I think a lot of that is the water that people drink.

I wouldn't take this as gospel. It's true that sufficient mineral intake is a requirement to live a long disease-free life. However, the level and range of minerals in municipal water supplies is so puny as to be irrelevant.

There are 16 trace minerals your body requires without exception, and to get those minerals you must A) eat foods that were grown in soil which contained that particular mineral, or B) take a supplement. Preferably both.

All you get from the tap is Mg, Na, and Ca. In addition, you will get chlorine bleach, sodium fluoride, and free birth control.
If you're lucky enough to have well-water, you're in good shape (unless you live near fracking) but most likely still need to supplement some of the 16.

Get a filter for your home that actually filters flouride. They are expensive, but can be installed.

I have been wanting a Big Burkey for a while. They are one of the few companies that actually make flouride filters. I need to get on it myself. It's not like a flouride filter for your entire home water supply, which will cost you a couple grand, but it's good enough for drinking water.

Also, you can get a flouride filter system just for your kitchen sink, but they're a PITA to isntall. If you're going that route a Burkey is probably better IMO.

Burkey claims you can take river water through their filters and drink it. Same with rain water.

There are also videos on youtube that show you how to make your own water tank out of buckets and just purchase the Burkey filters. That's most likely the best bet if $ is a concern. It won't be look great on the kitchen table, but it does the same job the $300 Burkey tank does.

So if I don't want fluoride in my water is my only choice to drink bottled water or well water? Seems like most water filters don't remove fluoride (but I'm assuming they get rid of most of the other things you don't want to drink, including the chlorine they use to clean tap water).

Strange that someone said that bottled water also has fluoride in it. Seems odd given that it's marketed as 'spring water' right from the source.

Thx.

Even if you remove it from your drinking water, you still have a big problem because fluoride is absorbed through the skin and through inhalation while showering. That is what makes fluoride so damn pernicious.

I just got off the telephone with Seagull Distribution, a company that make water filters that I trust. You need a whole house filter to completely remove fluoride. You can use Bone-Char (BC) Carbon for drinking water, but it is not really feasible for a shower filter because the water must be cold to eliminate fluoride and it must run through the filter for awhile. At any rate, this web site provides your main options.

Quote:How do I get the fluoride out of my water?

Once you are aware of the negative impact of fluoride on your health—and especially if you live in an area where the water is fluoridated—you will have to decide what to do about it. To complicate matters, fluoride is absorbed through the skin, and by inhalation. Showering and bathing in fluoridated water is also a problem. Fluoride is actually more dangerous when absorbed through the skin and/or lungs because it enters the bloodstream more easily, bypassing the gut where it binds with minerals from food. When it is not feasible to remove the fluoride from your entire water supply, limiting time in the shower or bath and reducing the temperature of the water helps minimize the amount of fluoride absorbed.

To top it all off, fluoride is difficult to remove from water. Most water filter sales literature avoids the subject. When buying a water filter, you may be comforted by reading that the system you are purchasing removes 95 to 99% of contaminants, but if it does not specifically state that it removes fluoride, you can bet it doesn’t. Fluoride is a very small ion (atomic number 9). It cannot be “filtered” out of water. At this time, fluoride removal is limited to four main methods discussed below.

1 . Distillation
Distillation is capable of removing just about anything (except volatile compounds) from water. If you have a distiller, you can remove fluoride. The obvious drawback to distillation is that the process is time and energy consumptive. Distillation also leaves the resulting water empty and lifeless. If you use distilled water you need to add minerals (salts) back to the water. (Read about salt and full-spectrum living water ). You should also consider structuring and energetically enhancing distilled water (returning the life force) using any of the methods in Chapters 11 and 12 of Dancing with Water. (Read about water’s liquid crystalline structure).

2. Reverse Osmosis
Reverse osmosis (RO) represents a reverse of normal osmotic processes. It relies on pressure and a semi-permeable membrane to remove contaminants from water. RO can remove between 90 and 95% of fluoride (depending on the efficiency of the system and depending on how well the system is maintained). Contaminants are trapped by the RO membrane and flushed away in the waste water. The process requires between 2 and 4 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of RO water (depending on the quality of the water and the efficiency of the RO unit). Source water with an abundance of contaminants (including hard water) can reduce the efficiency of an RO system and it can shorten the life of the membrane.

Similar to distillation, RO has a good track record for removing almost everything from water. Quality RO systems include pre-filters to remove VOCs (volatile organic compounds), heavy metals, hard water minerals, and other contaminants that reduce the life of RO membranes. And similar to distillation, RO leaves water empty and lifeless. The addition of salts and the re-introduction of life force are necessary to bring RO water back to energetic compatibility with the human body.

3. Activated alumina
Fluoride is strongly attracted to activated alumina (corundum/aluminum oxide) which has a large surface area with a huge array of tunnel-like pores. For this reason, activated alumina is the most commonly used fluoride removal media today. When used properly, it can remove up to 98% of the fluoride in water while also removing arsenic. The challenges with activated alumina are many. First of all, since the process works by ion exchange, the water must remain in contact with the media for an extended period of time—long enough for the fluoride to be adsorbed by the media. When the flow rate is faster than ¼ gallon/minute, there is not enough time to adsorb all the fluoride in the water. Another difficulty with activated alumina is that the media becomes saturated with fluoride. Depending on the amount of media in the system (how large the filter is) and on the amount of fluoride in the water, systems using activated alumina either need to be recharged or replaced often. The last difficulty with activated alumina is that aluminum is released into the treated water. This effectively trades one problem for another. Some systems address this; others do not.

There are many point-of-use filters that claim to remove fluoride using activated alumina. The problem with most of these systems is that they only work for a short period of time (usually far less than claimed) before they become saturated. The other difficulty is that point-of-use systems do not slow the flow rate enough to provide adequate time for adsorption. Recent testing of a variety of these filters revealed that few functioned as claimed for more than a few weeks. Unless the activated alumina can be cleaned and recharged or replaced regularly, and unless the flow rate is slow enough to allow time for adsorption, activated alumina may not be what you are looking for.

There are some “tank” type fluoride removal systems that are capable of working for many years with a backwashing and recharging cycle and an occasional topping off of the media. These systems are often used to remove fluoride from the whole home. Many consisder them the answer to the fluoride problem. They are not. The drawback to this type of system is an environmental problem. Caustic chemicals are required to backwash (sodium hydroxide) and to recharge (sulphuric acid) the media—chemicals that end up in the waste water. And when these “tanks” are eventually replaced, they end up in a landfill, loaded with fluoride, arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmuim.

4. BC-Carbon
Bone-Char (BC) Carbon has been used for centuries to remove naturally-occurring fluoride from water. It works similar to the way bones in the human body attract fluoride. Bone contains a porous matrix that is rich in surface ions. These can be readily replaced by fluoride and by some of the other contaminants that arrive along with fluoride (heavy metals). Bone char effectively removes a number of contaminants.

When used alone, BC-Carbon can remove up to 90% of the fluoride in water. The efficiency of bone char can be improved by adding pre-filters that remove heavy metals and other contaminants before exposure to the BC-carbon. Bone char works best at a slightly acidic pH and may not work as well with hard water. This medium is being successfully incorporated in many systems where cartridges can be replaced as the media becomes saturated. But this method is also not without problems. Obviously, bone char is an organic medium. Medical grade bone char is important to ensure that the bone char itself is clean.

BTW: It is still worth obtaining a shower filter to eliminate chlorine and other junk. I use one from Seagull.

Quote:"Chlorine is used almost universally in the treatment of public drinking water because of its toxic effects on harmful bacteria and other waterborne, disease-caring organisms. But there is a growing body of scientific evidence that shows that chlorine in drinking water may actually pose greater long term dangers than those for which it was used to eliminate.

These effects of chlorine may result in either ingestion or absorption through the skin. Scientific studies have linked chlorine and chlorination by-products to cancer of the bladder, liver, stomach, rectum, and colon, as well as heart disease, The presence of chlorine in water may also contribute to the formation of chloramines in the water, which can cause taste and odor problems. “Since chlorine is required by public health regulations to be present in all public drinking water supplies, it is up to the individual to remove it at the point-of-use in the home.”

No doubt. IF YOU DON'T USE A FILTER, YOU BECOME THE FILTER.

http://www.amazon.com/Omica-Organics-Sho...B0059EMIFW

The Omica is the best Shower Filter on the market that I know of. It contains Activated Alumina which should remove at least 70-80% of Fluoride, and it contains rare minerals and quartz crystal.

The result is a shower that leaves you feeling amazingly clean and energised. The only better shower you will get is from under a waterfall - even when you are filtering crappy municipal water. I have even travelled with this, and it is not too hard to install most of the time.

The problem is, you need to replace the whole unit every 6-9 months, but to my mind this is about as well spent as money ever gets.
