Marriage Continues To Die: Marriage rates hit new, all-time low
http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/26779009/ma...l-time-low

Quote:New data shows more young people are waiting to marry - and there's no shortage of opinions on why that's happening.

According to the latest available census data, the percentage of U.S. adults who have never been married has hit a new, all-time high.

In 1960, about one in ten adults over the age of 25 fell into that category.

By 2012, the number had jumped to one in five.

There's no formal consensus about what's driving the numbers, but data shows that among young adults who say they do want to get married, the economy is an issue.

34 percent of them cite financial security as an obstacle to tying the knot.

Other analysts point to the eradication of social taboos on cohabitation and out of wedlock childbearing.
Jennifer Marshall from the Heritage Foundation says: "Where there used to be a lot of social support for marriage and for couples interested in getting married, that doesn't exist so much anymore."

There is also an on-going debate about whether or not the same sex marriage issue has had any impact.

"Everyone who has ever talked about this says there's no heterosexual couple that is going to decide to get divorced or not to get married or not to raise children just because another couple next to them is treated equally and with respect and decency under our Constitution," said former Solicitor General Ted Olson.

Some social conservatives disagree.

"Stanley Kurtz writes about this in the Scandinavian countries where they have been undergoing this process for nearly two decades and the redefinition of marriage has accelerated the decline in marriage and I think we are foolish to think that we would escape the same consequences in America," said Tony Perkins from the Family Research Council.

Many conservatives also point a finger at the federal government, saying its policies encourage people not to marry. They cite tax penalties for married couples and noting that assistance benefits to single parents generally drop if they get married and increase their household income.

The good news keeps on coming. America's culture is dying as such a fast speed, faster than most people are expecting. The economy sputters along, the political system is broken, and each new generation of Americans is more broken than the last.

Of course, the death of marriage isn't news to anyone at RVF, but none of the "experts" can figure out why marriage is dying. Such a mystery? Why don't men want to get marriage to used up sluts and then lose half of their shit and their children? Gee what could possibly be keeping men away from the altar?

And yet in spite of the huge disincentives for men to get married, the current marriage decline is actually mostly caused by the women. There are other indications and statistics that show men continue to want monogamous relations more than women, including marriage. Indeed for any man skeptical of how easy women have it finding mates, go make a dating profile of an average women and see how inundated with messages that profile is. So despite women being given everything they supposedly need and want, it's still not good enough.

If there is any society that survives the death of the West and isn't Islamic, it obviously will not grant many rights to women. Because the point of society isn't to make women happy, it's for women to make men happy. And ultimately, women will only be happy and complete again when they are serving their men, as counter-intuitive that may seem to the pussied man today.

And that's why you're going to have more bachelor taxes like Obama Care to siphon money out of the wallets of able bodied young men to support the Nanny State.

More money coming out of the bachelors pocket though. One of the reasons why living abroad is an feasible option for red-pill men.

Even after paying the various bachelor taxes, the bachelor will still have more money to keep than the married man.

RE: Marriage Continues To Die: Marriage rates hit new, all-time low
The particular number cited in the article does not really show that marriage is "dying". A large part of the effect, or all of it, can be explained by people getting married later (at an older age).

Suppose, for example, that the only difference was that people now are getting married 10 years later on average than they did 50 years ago (I have no idea what the actual number is, but I imagine it's at least that). Then at any given moment, or cross-sectionally, you would find a much higher fraction of never-married adults now than you would 50 years ago. However, longitudinally (ie following each person over his or her lifetime) you would find that about the same fraction of people eventually marry now as did before.

Now, I don't believe that is the entire effect -- I think it's more likely to be a mixture of the two, that is, more people are marrying later, and more people are also not marrying at all. If I had to guess, I'd say that the delay effect (people getting married later) explains most of the number they're talking about, and that the number of people who never marry (over an entire lifetime) is only modestly higher than before.

Finally, all this is not to say that there aren't some problems resulting from people getting married later and later -- no doubt there are. But it's not exactly the same as the death of marriage.

What bachelor taxes are you referring to? I know that married people may get some tax relief by claiming dependents. How are single man penalized by the current tax system ?

Time will tell. I think people aren't going to marry, it's not merely a delay. Moreover, who gives a fuck if people get married at 40? The women are infertile by that point. Old hags getting married means shit.

It's young women's marriage rates that are a key indicator of a culture's health. The fact that old women get married is irrelevant.

To be fair, it's less of an issue in the US compared to some European countries, but give it some time, femicunts are working on it.

Basically, bachelor taxes are disguised as welfare, tax credits and other handouts that families with children are more likely to qualify for. How do you think almost half of the people don't pay income tax?

I agree with this, but I think that a lot of what is going on is women getting married in their 30s rather than their 20s, that is, when they are past their prime but still fertile.

The biological clock continues to tick and they hear it loud and clear. Many of them wait til much later in the clock, five minutes to midnight so to speak, but most will still not go past that. For most, the biological imperative cannot be so easily turned off.

Yeah, but even if they wait till thirty they'll be lucky to pop out two healthy children. Compare that to a woman in her twenties who can easily have three healthy kids without even trying.

Overall trend is dysgenic and population decline, which means a shrinking economy, an increasingly difficult dating market for men, and ever more pedestalization of any young woman (even if she's disgusting).

This is what I could find quickly. When this was getting passed I read a pretty lengthy report from an economist and he broke it down step by step. I'll keep looking for the link if you're interested.

Quote:Starting next year, the Affordable Care Act will limit how much health insurance premiums can vary based on age. Health insurers will be restricted to charging older people no more than three times higher premiums than they charge younger people. This is bad news for the young.

It's a fact that, in general, the older you are, the higher your medical costs (six times higher when you compare 64-year-olds to 18-year-olds). If insurers can't charge older people according to their risk, they have to make up those costs by charging higher premiums to those younger. According to the American Action Forum, once the new health law's various rate restrictions and other provisions kick in, 27-year-old non-smoking males may see premiums rise, on average, by 189%, while 55-year-old women who smoke may see their premiums fall, on average, by 18%.

http://politix.topix.com/story/5772-how-...-the-young

And to make it fair women will pay the same as men, even though men don't need prenatal care. Because men don't get pregnant.

Quote:Ending Gender Discrimination in Premiums

Today, many insurance companies in the individual market charge women higher premiums than men. A 25-year-old woman enrolled in a health plan — one that does not cover maternity care — may pay as much as 81 percent more than a 25-year-old man enrolled in the same plan.[13] Similarly, a 40-year-old non-smoking woman pays up to 57 percent more than a 40-year-old male smoker in the same plan. Beginning in 2014 insurance companies in the individual and small-group health insurance market may no longer charge higher rates due to gender or health status. Premiums can vary based on age, tobacco use, family size and geographic location, within limits set by the Affordable Care Act.

It sort of is. If our grandparents average 40 years of marriage (including some really key points relatively early in your life) and we average 20 years of our live married, that would still be cutting it in half, even if longitudinally it was the same percentage.

I would argue that it's even worse, because wifing up some used up chick with 3 kids by two other guys, someone who spent her best years of fertility and sexiness on other men, but still wants a good man for a safety net is a crap deal, and may not have been recognized as marriage at all by our ancestors.

Spot on, Samulus.

It's irretrievably broken, and the question now is what historical parallels we can use to guide us as to what to expect.

I think we'll continue to see:

*Slowly increasing levels of civil disturbances, possibly even riots over jobs, food, and public services.

*Steadily encroaching militarism of society, as the government plays the one card it has left.

*Continued physical degeneration of people in the US: obesity, declining fertility, piercings, tattoos, rise in pestilences, disease, etc.

*More despotic actions by government to try to keep it all together

*Flight of the rich to safe offshore havens

*Rise in functional illiteracy among the lowest sectors of society

In short, Roman history from 250-400 A.D.

RE: Marriage Continues To Die: Marriage rates hit new, all-time low
All that is happening for the majority of America is what has been happening in Black America for decades now. Marriage rates among African-Americans have been in the shitter since the 70s. White America ("the majority" which is soft speak for talking about white Americans. To the same affect that the NYT when it rings its alarms is intended to alert the white bougiouse Americans on issues). The paralels are almost the same as they were back in the day for African-Americans whom saw their men be emasculated at wholesale levels by a prison system, a economic swindle the destroyed manufacturing jobs in urban centres, drugs, and the slow start to the sezuire and transfer of wealth to women via government systems and the courts. Minus the prison issue you can almost tie those issues into modern day burdens today. For prison, let's use debt instead which did not come online mainstream until the 80's. Now you have mortgages and loans that have put men into bondage not much different then the man locked up in the pen.

I could go on this topic for a long time. You can easily look the crystal ball to see where its all headed as you just have to look at the broken pieces of the African-American community to see where America will end up:

Majority obesity in women

Ultra hypergamous activity among women

Mass amounts of children out of wedlock

Women leading with wealth and education attainment over men

Men with decling health (still with donate attention payed towards specific cultural ailments)

The disappearnce of the nuclear family

Negative birth rates

Hyper sexualitly among the women, and the bizzare contrast of hyper homosexuslity among the males.

High abortion rates to the extent almost half the children are aborted among the black community

Degeneration of culture and class: It went from Jazz and James Baldwin to Trap music and WSHH .

Contuinung decline in wealth even as education rates rise among African-Americans

... I can go on..

To steer this away from a race (as this isnt a bait post) just keep in mind in the old days all these issues were almost unknown to the African-American community. This community used to live more Conservative and religious lifestyles then white Americans and had female marriage rates as high as 95%. Wealth accumulation was higher as was general employment rates. Having children out of wedlock was barley on the register and th core values of community and family were extremly important to their way of life. Fast forward 60 years and its gone all down hill, and all by design by rulling classes whom never wanted to see a viable minority rise to hold any tangible peice of power that would of been indepdent and out of their control. Next up is is the majority of the rest of American as they now know that have seen this program in working destroy African-Americans by a large margian.

If you want to see the future just go back and trace key events for shifts in the African American community as many factors that have affected them (minus political BS and certain cultural traits I.e. diet and certain foods in relation to health) and a road map starts to roughly form. The only thing is that the current trends happening in mainstream America are happening at a much faster pace then what was expericend in the African-American community.

In short, Roman history from 250-400 A.D.

There are still more similarities:

- Inflationary monetary policy and increasing borrowing by a government unable to meet its financial obligations and to bandaid a persistently struggling economy
- The rise in radicalism in politics and the general public
- Increasingly porous borders with the central government either unwilling or unable to retain control of them
- Mass immigration, leading to significant demographic shifts
- The degeneration of the general culture and the loss of learning

Agreed, the death of marriage was caused not by one thing but by many. Death by a thousand cuts.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing old man young woman marriages becoming the norm even though it is shamed to high heaven. If all of the economic outlets for women disappear then we might see a return to the norm.

I doubt that though.

RE: Marriage Continues To Die: Marriage rates hit new, all-time low
I would say the one advantage that the black community has, its that despite the social and civilizational breakdown in these communities, they still have high birth rates. European will soon have neither, which is the real cause of concern that no one really addresses. It has been spotted by Neo conservatives but they tend to be laissez faire in offering solutions, on to the point, that will import foreigners to replace the workforce and thus replenish the economy. Kind of depressing to see, people culture etc being reduced to a mere economic unit. Although materialist pragmatism is needed in order to get anywhere, there is still a need for substance; something which is lacking.

Sure on paper, women entering the workforce and pushing aside family life, and everyone having more spending power, may seem desirable; but there are a lot of things that have to be taken into account for the long term. Which have been brushed aside, and almost ridiculed for being too cynical, although no one can dispute it.

Im still in my early 20s, but I think the concept of marriage is a fantastic idea. In the U.K I see a lot of Westernized girls flocking towards Islam because it gives them commitment, some sense of certainty. Although we already had this in place in Europe and Britain, but it got dismantled and torn apart by progressives. It comes to a point now, with immigration and foreign patriarchies coming into Western nations. That no one can really dispute the benefits and practicalities of institutions such as marriage. However there is this scenario where no one wants to do anything about.

I see a lot of people my age, gradually turning against each other. Women distrust and dislike men, men dislike and distrust women. There is no certain way or doing things, as there is no sense of certainty. I do live currently in one of the epicentres for this culture (U.K) but it is a really bizarre scenario.

Many women are willingly going to Islam?

I saw this on Drudge the other day, didn't even look at it. Is this news to anybody?

"Other analysts point to the eradication of social taboos on cohabitation and out of wedlock childbearing."

That wouldn't explain falling birth rates.

Oh yes, In the city I am currently living in, this is becoming increasingly common. A couple of girls in my university course converted to Islam after getting involved with muslim men. I wouldn't brand it as being common, but it is defiantly a trend.

Reminds me of an article I read about how feminism is paving the way for Islam to rise.

RE: Marriage Continues To Die: Marriage rates hit new, all-time low
Now this article comes out

Quote: Some revolutions happen in a single day; others over decades. The rise of the voluntarily single woman has been happening in Western societies slowly, over time, concomitant with well-paying jobs, legal protection from economic or physical abuse, reliable birth control and the possibility of fulfilling careers and adventures.

Women are marrying at a later age these days, cohabiting with their partners or going in and out of short-term relationships without ever walking down the aisle.

Currently, 53% of women over 18 are in the singles column. Put another way, women now have choices that allow them to customize the arc of their lives and some of them find that it is best for them to put marriage aside.

Is this natural? Is this bad? Is this cause for alarm?

We have long counted on women's sacrifices and the compromises they've made to lift societies all over the world. We are worried that if women delay or forgo marriage, the all-important family unit will suffer.

As much as I admire happy couples and families, I think this may be one of the few times in history when so many women could choose from such a full range of life choices without penalty or stigma. Since few people "have it all," why not choose being single if that's the best option?

1. A useless husband

If a woman is poor and only meets equally poor or poorer men, she's in a tough spot. It is no secret that many women do not choose to marry if the available partners will make their economic situation worse.

In some of these cases, even if a woman has a child, she may be better off with government help than a nonworking, noninvolved husband.

2. Success changes everything

When a woman is very privileged or highly successful, marriage could come very easily -- or not. Think of the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, who was married eight times. Or Oprah Winfrey, who for personal or professional reasons, is not married.

Moreover, a woman doesn't need a husband who is a high-powered corporate attorney if she is a high-powered corporate attorney. Taking advantage of economic and professional opportunities could be undermined by committing to a partner with an equally ambitious, or different, life agenda. This kind of woman may wake up every day to new and exciting challenges and think, "best to wait."

3. Unwilling to make traditional compromises

A woman who doesn't want to settle for cooking and cleaning and being the primary parent that society prefers. She is not meeting guys who want the kind of woman she is.

4. The marriage penalty tax

Some women are in an income bracket where marriage inflicts economic costs. She would have to pay more taxes if she marries someone who earns approximately what she makes or more.

5. Avoiding cheating men

A few years ago when I was in China, I had a conversation with some very beautiful female Chinese TV personalities about their personal life. I asked them why they were single and if they wanted to get married.

The three women all said they didn't want to marry because "the men of our class will all expect to have mistresses, and it is better not to marry than have to put up with that." I have no idea if this was an exaggeration or not -- but they believed it.

6. Waiting for the "one"

These women wait for the perfect guy, or the guy who they would fall in love with and love them back just as much. If that man doesn't come along, they prefer to go alone. As women get pickier, more factors enter into the marriage equation.

They may find someone who doesn't quite go the distance even after years of dating. They cohabit with someone and it doesn't work out. Singlehood, never intentional, becomes a fact. But they will not marry just to marry as their mothers or grandmothers might have.

In social psychology, there is a classic theory called "exchange theory." It is a bit cold-blooded, but it predicts that a person's actions will be based on trying to find a balance of give and get. Each person's resources -- of all kinds, including money, looks, background -- are traded back and forth for a "good deal." For example, a "good deal" scenario could be a woman who makes an excellent living pairing up with a man who is a writer and is willing to work at home and be the primary child care person.

When women's life choices were highly constrained, they had little negotiating power. They had to marry or were seen as damaged. A few got away with being "free spirits" but usually they were exceptional in wealth or lineage -- and even so, it wasn't easy.

It's different now. While most women still want marriage, they don't want it at just any price. They don't want it if it scuttles their dreams. Marriage is not dead -- not by a long shot. It is still, to most of us, the house we wish to build for our love, our lover and our children.

But women want to craft a life instead of having it pressed upon them. And that means some of us will be single for a long time, and some of us will be single for life.

A man is only as faithful as his options-Chris Rock
