I'm not sold on fermented foods at all, with the notion of having to maintain our gut flora, and I have 2 reasons behind it.

1. It tastes bad. Logic tells me that if something tastes bad, we shouldn't eat it. It's one of nature's protection mechanisms. Animals use it to determine what they should or should not eat. I live by the same rule. If it tastes bad, I don't consume it.

2. It's not natural. Now I realize that there are many rebuttals to this (one of my own would be that I could argue that cooking our food isn't natural, either), but think about it. Our food (plants and animals) was made for us to consume fresh. It goes bad and eventually becomes poison to us if we consume it while in a rotten state.

Now, what are these gut flora that we need that only exist in fermented food? It simply doesn't make sense that our bodies would require something that only exists in a decayed state.

Fermenting food was originally used as a preservative, but we don't need that anymore - we have refrigerators and freezers.
[/quote]

I disagree with you on here. First of all, taste is completely subjective. Personally, I love the taste of fermented foods. I can eat whole bowls of just sauerkraut alone. There are many very healthy foods that people think taste like shit. Your preference for taste has to do with your upbringing among other factors, not what is healthy.
I eat lots of liver from grassed cows, one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Many of my friends hate that shit. Potato chips cooked in trans fat also taste good, that doesn't mean its healthy. Our bodies just don't want to starve to death.
Also, we don't "require" fermented foods, but they are beneficial. We don't need them to survive, but they are healthy.

Human bodies are not very efficient at processing a large amount of raw plant material. Fermented foods have always been consumed, at first in the form of partially digested vegetation from an animals stomach, which is basically fermented foods. Many cultures still eat that, and you will be fine if you do. Now, foods are fermented in different ways, but can still be healthy.

As with anything that has to do with health/fitness etc, results are king.
I eat lots of sauerkraut, raw milk, kimchi, ACV, and other foods like that, and I feel amazing. Theres kids in China eating eel, and most American kids wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Doesn't mean eel is unhealthy.

It seems that I largely agree with the several points that you are making, Dhorv9, yet who are you quoting? I would like to see the original reference in order to see the context and/or the poster, without having to dig too much.

Unless the reference is very recent or unambiguously clear, usually, for ease of reference, we will provide the link to any post that we are quoting (and/or rebutting or providing contrary opinion)... In this regard, this thread has suffered some time gaps in posts.

Just spent ages writing a post & got mugged! Wiil now reduce & condense.

Roosh V Forum
Can not upload file - Too large for php post_max_size directive. Please press the back button.

Basically "Teds-ACV Alkalising Remedies" consists of mixing ACV(with the mother) & bicarbonate soda(UK)/baking soda(US).
Two tsp(small spoon/5ml) ACV, Half tsp(5ml) bicarbonate/baking soda, add these to 200 ml of fresh bottled water in a glass.
:IMPORTANT:-Then sip the mixture slowly (use straw if reqd) taking maybe two mins to consume.Don't gulp!
Do this twice a day morning/night for 5 days then have 2days off. Rinse & repeat.
Try to drink 2Ltrs of fresh bottled water daily which is needed to wash out all the toxins.
Possible downside for some is during this regime you should refrain from sugars, yeast & most processed foods to get the best results.
Yeh, I know,no beer, burgers, micro-meals, fruit juices, candy, soda etc. Try it for a cpl weeks, it's New Year!!
During first week you may develop man flu symptoms/other symptoms/flare ups etc, believe it or not these are good signs called Hrexheimer Effect which is toxin die-off.YEH!!Depending how much shit your bunged up with determines how bad & how long. Refrain from the above & you should see difference in first week or deffo 2nd
Where did I get Ted from Bangkok ACV Remedies from, well ROOSH tried to point y'all in the right direction on the first page of this thread.

RE: Health: Apple Cider Vinegar
Don't believe it, was mugged again for another long post. This one was explaining what the ACV & bicarbs helped me with about 6/7 years ago. Was suffering from burning the candle at both ends, immune system shot to death. Anyhowz, symptoms included:- chronic fatigue, sinusitis, athletes foot, white tongue, premature ejac(why am I sharing this!) & oh yeh, worst of all severe Hemorrhoids Sad Sad. Happy days!! Finally decided to visit doc's although could count on one hand how many times been at doc's during adult life. After watching doc google symptoms(I could've done that!) left surgery with handfuls of prescriptions for pill's, creames & suppositries, decided to investigate these meds on net & came across many horror stories! Many, many hours searching the net later I came across a new word for my vocabulary CANDIDA....... A particularly nasty little piece of shit that can cause havoc in any persons body, basically.its a form of (BAD)yeast overgrowth(thrush,as it's known in women & kids) docs seem to accept thrush can appear in the mouth and genital areas of women but can't get their heads around the space between these orifices. Mention candida to your doc & you'll be chased out of their surgerySmile
Cut to the chase, after discovering a few good books, the earthclinic site & teds remedies it wasn't long before I was on the ACV/bicarbonate soda regime, strictly refraining from sugars, yeasts, bread(sourdough ok), etc. felt like shit for first two days then relief..... Had energy hadn't experienced since my teens, sinuses cleared(didn't realise sinuses were all over face, head & ears), athletes foot dried up to flaky skin, white tongue became pink(can't remember last time it was pink), sex became controllable again(could take her eye out with a ribbon from 3foot), best of all rhoids shrunk & disappeared. All this within first 5 days. HAIL ACV & BICARBS!!

RE: Health: Apple Cider Vinegar
Finally!!!

Apart from the Ted Remedies & the rest of that website, the three books I'd recommend for RVFers on this subject are:-

Folk Medicine by Dr D C Jarvis.........Should be called "The ACV Handbook" written in the 1950's in Vermont, pre anti-biotics etc,he also gives it to animals/livestock etc

The Yeast Connection--A Medical Breakthrough by William G Crook MD.........Read this then go have a chat with your doctor, they'll be more educated after you leave!!

The Missing Diagnosis by C Orian Truss MD.......unbelievably true stories/cases of mis-diagnosis & the troubles it causes, should be first book given out at Med School!

Hope I haven't went off topic too much, who knows maybe some of you stressed out, candle burning, graveyard shift working RVFers will recognise some of the symptoms(maybe all of them!!) If so, give it a shot, what you got to lose?

P.S Also off topic but could someone PM me with a link to learn how to use the quote functions etc

Was buying some ACV at the health store and found this product:

Super good on eggs, salad, chicken, steak, steamed veggies and potatoes. I made a rib roast tonight and it was so good sprinkled on top of the beef and jus I made.

Versatility that lazy bastards like myself value.

Is there anything Braggs doesn't do?!?!

Now all I need to do is find a place that sells those premixed Braggs drinks in bulk. The singles at natural grocers are well over $1 a bottle.

My ACV has been hiding in the back of the pantry for almost a year and it has gone a dark, dark brown, very different from the color it was when I bought it. What's the deal here? Does ACV go bad?

RE: Health: Apple Cider Vinegar
Gas- I had a similar situation when I was visiting family over Xmas and went to drink some of my moms ACV that had obviously hardly been used in a year and sitting on the counter... The Mother had solidified to the point where it would break apart but was stuck in these disgusting globs that could be pulled right out of the bottle were my fingers nimble enough.

I tried a shot after a few seconds of excruciating deliberation, thinking I would either get superpowers from the mass of Mother, or die an agonizing death of ACV poisoning.... It was all for naught. It felt gross going down, what is imagine jizz being like, but my acid reflux went away and I got the old energy boost. No difference.

Keep your next bottle in the fridge though, seems to last longer before taking on that weird texture.

That sounds unpleasant. At $5 a bottle, I think I might just get a new one.

Ha, I left mine on the counter for two or three weeks. When I finally noticed it, there was a massive glob of bacteria/mold floating around.

I was told by a family member that it was "the mother"

Yeah. A picture may help because it seems that it is just "the mother" which is perfectly acceptable to ingest.... In other words, "the mother" is a feature of raw apple cider vinegar and NOT a bug. Angel

So yesterday I started drinking an 18oz glass of water with two spoonfuls of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar in it after my mid-morning meal. It immediately cleared up my persistent sore throat and tasted pretty good. I think I'll keep trying it.

RE: Health: Apple Cider Vinegar
Bought bottle of Raw Organic ACV with the "mother", opened it then left it in the direct sunlight for a month to get some photo's of the "mother" fermenting for you guy's who were requesting the photo's.

Here goes, haven't posted photo's direct so hopefully they will upload!!

First one is the brand of ACV we get in the real foods shop here, £2.09, so roughly $3.00, thats for 750ml. The braggs one is around 3 x the price at about £6.50 but I dont think it has as much of the goodness in it, sometimes very clear with hardly any sediment on the bottom.

Second one is the bottle settled after opening and leaving in the sunlight for a month, you can see the fermented "mother" congregating at the bottom, looks like a pile of dust.

Third one is after bottle has been given a shake, the "mother" swirls around the bottle and has a similar look to a spiders web as it clings together.

Fourth one is bottle bought at same time but left unopened and refrigerated so hasn't been fermenting in the sunlight/heat.

Don't think it will do you any harm as most of it stays in the bottle if you pour it slowly. Occasionally, depending on how old your ACV is you will get small granules of it coming out but thats the part thats good for you, the "mother".

As Komatite said earlier think gulping the whole blob would taste like jiz, so think i'll just keep pouring slowly!!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pictures. They are a little bit difficult to see what it is being depicted, exactly, but it seems that your explanation is helpful to give some ideas about what we are looking for in the picture or what we need to look for in our bottles of ACV (or what we would expect in a typical raw ACV bottle in terms of the presence of the mother)..

In any event, I believe that what you are describing is NORMAL for ACV and what we expect to find, if we are really getting a raw and unpasteurized product.

Maybe each of us have our own queasiness regarding whether we believe some kinds of foods are good or bad for us based on texture, smell, taste or look, yet it is my sense that there is NO need to fear drinking the mother inside the ACV one iota - whether you pour your ACV fast or you pour it quickly or you shake up the bottle before you pour and drink from it.

I've been sick for like two weeks. Had a nasty flu then recovered, then was volunteering at an elementary school last Wed and by Friday night I was waking up six times a night because swallowing was extremely painful- brutal sore throat and some sinus issues again.
Been on 2 shots ACV a day the last two days and its helping a lot, as well as taking those Zinc lozenges. Letting that ACV and Zinc flow over the infected throat area really seems to be helping, hopefully it goes away ASAP!

just got a bottle with the aztec clay-haven't used it internally yet because I've just had dental work done and didn't want to risk damaging my teeth, so thought about using a feeding tube to bypass the mouth. Am I overreacting?
It is good for facials though.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but I discovered yesterday that ACV provides a fantastic DIY method for killing fruit flies.

Take a bowl, fill it with an inch or so of ACV, and mix in a couple drops of dish soap. The fermentation is like catnip for the flies, and the dish soap prevents them from resting on the surface of the liquid. They'll be drawn to the smell and then drown once they touch it:

How often should I take it? Daily? How much?

Very interested to give this a try.

Anyone drink ACV for a longer (1+ years) duration?

I went off the bandwagon, concerned about the longer terms effects.
