RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - crottstep - 03-01-2017 05:57 PM

Gave this plenty of tries in the past couple of years. Longest streak was around 45 days while in a mini relationship. Over the past couple of months my sex drive went up significantly - early 20s - and I've found myself fapping literally every single day at least once. Which never happened growing up, and it's seriously taken a toll on my energy levels. At the very least I need to cut down but I'd like to try this again.

I'm interested in hearing your guys' thoughts on nofap from the following perspective:

Just how realistic, beneficial and difficult is nofap when you're getting no action at all? Have any of you guys done it, and if so for how long?

Personally, I find giving up porn/masturbation altogether a nobrainer when I'm getting enough sex. It takes almost 0 willpower to reduce it to 1-2 odd times a month. However, that hasn't been the case for the past few months, and it won't be for another 6-12 months or so. I'm not bullshitting, and I'd like to avoid going into the exact specifics.

I'll try to paint the picture for you guys though: literally every single area of my life is working against meeting women and getting laid at the moment ( and in the very near future ), it's more than simply logistics. As a result, I am focusing nearly every single drop of energy on business and my physical health, putting everything else second. I realize my game will go to shit to some extent, and will try to keep minimal levels on social interactions going just so I don't backslide completely. But pretty much every single thing in my life is working against me getting and keeping a girl. And on the off chance I do so, there's a slight medical condition that makes sex very, very inconvenient. Certainly not something I'd even like to attempt right now.

I'm trying to gauge just how difficult / beneficial nofap would be given this context. I've specifically avoided posting this on an echo chamber like /r/nofap since I can't take that place seriously anymore. I've been lurking the forum for a long time, and since I find the quality of discourse and members much higher over here, would very greatly appreciate any input. Thanks guys.

NoFap is the most difficult, but also MOST beneficial, when you don't have a girl. Your brain fog will clear and you will be able to do most other tasks with an energy and clarity that will shock & amaze you. Provided you can get through the flatline period.

(03-01-2017 04:56 PM)ExploringReality Wrote:  One question for the veterans here, as I'm approaching the period of the much feared "flatline". How did you deal with that if you got it? It looks scary as hell.

There is NO easy shortcut around the flatline. NONE. It is a healing process like when you break a leg or arm and have it in a cast. Accept that your brain has been severely damaged from endless porn, just like a long term serious cocaine or heroin addict. When the flatline comes it is awful and scary and you don't know when it ends....but it does end. My best advice is keep as busy as possible with other tasks, make eye contact with girls in real life, and never test your erection with porn.

I'd say that's a pretty big pro. Social anxiety is one of the toughest things to beat for most guys.

I think these 2 different statements show how important it is not to look at porn even if you are not masturbating to it. Porn activates the dopamine release centres in your brain that give pleasure. You are seeing hot naked girls without "working" for it like you would if you saw a cute girl in real life you want to undress yourself. Still looking at porn may be a big part of the reason you are not getting all the benefits you should be. I know you want to discipline yourself, but its much easier not to eat junk food, when you don't have it in your house in the first place....so I would still advise you to block the porn on your devices. Make more eye contact with fully clothed girls in real life.

A 2nd reason may also be the season of the year. I don't know where you live, but where I am its still winter and cold, and I have noticed that this has a big impact on my reboot. Lack of sunlight, low temperatures and a general feeling of wanting to stay indoors I think can also slow things down. Lets see if things move faster in spring.

(03-01-2017 05:23 PM)ShotgunUppercuts Wrote:  My advice for you all that have just started is to take it week by week. If you can manage a week then you should challenge yourself to a month. If you can do that then take it month by month.

I fully agree.
Guys coming here saying they immediately want to do 40 or 90 days is unrealistic if you haven't tried this before. Set yourself smaller targets like 7 or 10 days and when you achieve those keep going without counting days too much. Just make a note of when you started.

Co-sign 300%. Congratulations on making it 90 days, but if you were actively watching hardcore high speed porn, your brain is not being correctly repaired.

Thank you both for the advice.

If someone could show me a way to block porn from a router I'd be thankful ,I already did it through my phone company.

I don't have a computer either.

Yes, I would say that reflects my past experiences with nofap while no girls to a great extent. I can definitely attest to making a lot more impressive progress in life while in that complete monk mode. The problem is I almost never managed to maintain it for more than 2-3 week streaks, outside of a handful 30-45 days streaks when I burned through impressive amounts of willpower. Have experienced flatline as both being horrible and a blessing in disguise.

However you haven't answered the second part of my question. Forgive me if you've already answered this but the thread is quite long and I haven't made much progress. You summed up the first part quite nicely, but have you done this yourself? Nofap without girls? If so, for how long?

I formulated my question in this way because I would like to get a realistic view of nofap from this perspective, from guys here who've done it. Like I said, I tend not to trust the embellishments of /r/nofap as much anymore.

I've given up alcohol with very little resistance, general drug addictions as a coping mechanism - I don't smoke weed anymore period because I am not in a place in life where I can control it still but do psychedelics - and cigarettes altogether. But fapping is bar none the hardest fucking addiction I've ever dealt with when I don't pursue girls successfully.

At this point, given my past experiences, I just find it an insurmountable challenge, doing it this way for 90 days or more. Which is why I'm still debating it.

Although I am slowly getting more motivated with each day. Just last week while on a 3 day streak I was literally opened by 2 reeaaaaally young girls for the first time in forever, everything else being exactly the same about me. I know it was because of my vibe and nofap. On the previous short streak, I was repeatedly eyefucked by one chick who had her friend slap her ass ten meters in front of me, while walking my dog around the park. Keep in mind both of these events involved schoolgirls, which both reconfirmed my babyface and quite frankly brought me closer to God lol.

Anyway, today was day one for me, after a couple of shorter streaks this past month. Pretty productive day, my brain was clocking a lot faster but I mostly credit this to the 50 ug of LSD I ingested in the afternoon.

Have you tried k9 browser?

If it takes more, then you have a serious addiction, and no software will block you. The change must be instigated from within.

On your computer, K9 is the most effective solution. No idea what phone / tablet OS you're using and I haven't instigated solutions for those myself.

If you want to do it on a router here's a solution off the top of my head, use custom DNS servers. Here's the first Google result on this - http://lifehacker.com/5570770/familyshield-is-a-no-setup-adult-content-blocker-for-your-router

Although it's still easily circumventable when using a VPN or setting custom DNS servers on your phone and so on. Software can only do so much for you, like redbeard says it depends how serious you rate your addiction - how technically skilled and momentarily determined you are and so on lol. Although I can understand why having an easy barrier set in place would help.

Edit: Congrats on making it to 90 days regardless of watching porn, it's a serious fucking achievement.

Yes, I have done this without any sex.
My record was 45 days and the only reason I broke that, was because a new cute girl I met agreed to come to my home (and later into in my bed) with almost no effort on my part.

How do you think men became saints in the old days ?
By not eating anything and never masturbating again.
Even in biblical times they knew these were the 2 hardest addictions for a man to break.
Use ice cold showers on your head every time you want to fap.
In very extreme cases I can recommend fasting as a way to break your fapping addiction. Try going an entire 24 hours without food. Make sure you drink enough water while you fast. If you can do that, try 48 hours the next time. That should kill your libidinous desires when they get too strong.

Isn't this amazing expierence proof enough keep trying ?
Besides, if girls come into your orbit with zero effort during NoFap and give you eye contact, go and talk to them and ask them out.

Stop taking drugs man....that is a sure fire way to ruin your willpower. Besides, the high you will get from NoFap is more powerful than any artificial substance.

I'm all for momentary fixes to prevent a relapse but I find it's always all in my fucking head, getting down to the root of it is the only thing that helps ultimately. I know because I've done it before. I've literally taken a cold shower, did sets of pullups and still felt this insane need to fap which made me to come up with a remarkably intricate solution to bypass the filter I had set up on my laptop lol.

Yeah those 2 instances are quite frankly 80% of my motivation atm for considering doing a complete reboot lol. I kicked myself hard for not approaching that chick who was eyefucking me as she didn't seem underage and was a solid 8. Daygaming in Eastern Europe as a local is something I was never able to swing though. I'll definitely remember how bad it stings the next time it happens, that's for fucking sure.

You're wrong on this one my man. On the contrary, microdosing on LSD is one of the few things keeping me sane right now. I agree with you that you get quite a natural high from nofap, but your perspective on drugs is quite narrow. Psychedelics can be very beneficial in breaking up negative thought / behavioral patterns. There's quite a number of studies being done as we speak on their potential of being used as therapy drugs, having much higher success rates with treating depression and such than traditional solutions.

Look I'm not looking to derail the thread in this direction any further as that was never my intention and I'm not a fucking hippie by any significant means. It's just one of the few things I've found that helped me make sense of my crazy fucking brain. I'll give you that I've burned my hand more times than I'm willing to count before I knew what the fuck I was doing and I actually started to do it mindfully though.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - Speculation - 03-01-2017 09:37 PM

My longest 'hard mode' (no girls, no fap, no porn) streak was 88 days. I broke 2 days early because I got picked up by a slut at a friend's birthday party. I figured I deserved the reward for making 3 months and have no regrets.

It was very difficult and I was in my early 30's at the time. I can't imagine what it would be like for a guy in his teens or early 20's.

I put my success down to knowing my triggers very well, being mindful as much as I can and taking action when I saw my triggers approaching.

Practicing mindfulness meditation to be aware of your cravings before they get too strong is very helpful. Have a list of backup activities to do in an emergency (pushups, going for a walk and keep walking until its not a problem). Also remind yourself of the benefits and write up a specific list of why nofap is important to you. Refer to this list during the bad times. More time out of the house is better than time in front of electronic screens.

Well done, yeah that's the thing I'm early 20s and a couple of months ago I started to become 10x hornier pretty much overnight. Aiming for 90 days is objectively speaking, harder than it's ever been. Even though I know it would be worth it.

I actually did a dhamma retreat some time ago, got the gist of it and am still carrying it in daily life even though I'm not into mindfulness meditation anymore.

Good idea on placing reminders I haven't done that yet, reframing is a very powerful technique indeed.

The longest nf/np I did was about 120 in 2015 - helped me to find a Ltr-girl. Overall, It felt great.

In 2016, my longest was about 100 days.

I made several +40 day-streaks in 2016 but since I had no girl around, I relapsed more often than I wish I would have.

I think drugs are a big problem too. I used to smoke weed for years and whenever I was stoned, I became extremely horny. Before I started with nf/np in 2014, I used to watch a lot of porn when I was high - so I think my brain was also wired to feeling arrousal when smoking. Don't they say that weed is working as an aphrodisiacum too?

Since I'm competely clean and don't smoke weed anymore, I feel even better. It took too long to realize, but looking back doesn't help.

But up until now, 2017 is the hardest. I even relapsed to self-edited porn-compilations I still had somewhere in my laptop. After 2 frustrating fap-sessions, I finally managed to delete 'em off my computer for a fresh, clean start.

Day 19 - feeling good.

I don't know whether nf can make hair grow again - my bald spot is still there - but it def can help you when it comes to motivation an feeling good. Less anxiety. And women react different too.

That's fucking great, I personally wouldn't stress much about nofap if I got to that point. However, I've looked through your past history and you're not a horny as hell 20 something. I'm not making excuses, just saying, achieving those stats seems close to fucking impossible right now to me in these conditions. I'm sure guys my age have done it before, and I'm not trying to downplay your results or make excuses for myself, just putting all these reports into context, something most guys don't do enough.

My thing with weed in particular is, I'm not a man enough yet to handle my shit properly when I'm on it. I always end up smoking my ass off every day once I start, blowing through a lot of cash, but above all, wasting vast amounts of time I can't afford to anymore. Not if I want to live a kickass life. I know it can aid in creativity greatly, and with relaxing, among other benefits. But there are alternatives for that, and it stopped being cool a long fucking time ago.

Dude what the fuck are you doing, seriously? Delete any porn you might have on your computer, I see no logical reason to store that shit at all. All I have left are are a couple of sexy pictures of past girls that are encrypted, and the password is as close to inaccessible as it will ever get for me lol... just in case I might want to take a peak at those boobies some day, will probably delete them for good if I ever get married though.

Yeah this is complete bullshit imho, I saw that post as well and if you look really close at the videos, it didn't do jack shit. That dude's hairline is still the fucking same, his bald spots did not get any better, although they didn't get any worse either. His hair was just a bit longer in the last one.

Been trying to get on the wagon but I usually only last about 3-5 days before relapsing. Lent just started yesterday so I figured this is a good time to give it another try. The longest I've ever last was about 2 weeks so 40 days will definitely be an epic struggle but I'm going to be giving this my all.

I'm doing this again for lent along with no alcohol and no nicotine. Alcohol and nicotine is the easy bit but I've had to come up with another way to motivate more NF... The gym along with dianobol so nf will help be preserve be testosterone to help increase my gains.

Try fighting one addiction at a time.
Too many at once and the body will rebel hard.

Anyone experience the worst times are the wake sleep state early in the morning (esp with wood?)

apart from just being bored and idle, those two times are by far the biggest challenges

2 months minimum, do it boys

then do it longer, it can only help

Yes, this is normal. Morning erections come back with a vengeance on long term NoFap.

Use my advice on the previous page.

Thanks, Merc.

I'll break it down a different way to make more sense.

My main goal at the moment is to get in to fitness, specifically weightlifting. So making it as easy for me to maximise my gains is the priority. I'm not much of a drinker and nicotine goes hand in hand with alcohol for me so that is the easiest to combat. Out of the previous 10 times i've gone to a bar I've only drank alcohol twice so 40 days of no alcohol is very easy. Nicotine is tougher but can definitely be done. In order to maximise my testosterone at least in the short term cutting out fap is very beneficial. I'm actually on day 8 at the moment even though lent has only been 2 days. Longest I've done on no fap before is about 14 days. So I'm slightly over the half way point to my personal best.

I used to have a web blocker for Safari but it slowed down my mac to the point it was annoying to use. I since deleted that, web filter didn't that effectively as I could toggle it on/off at a click of a button. I've found leaving my laptop other side of my room at night to be very helpful. Other things I've found helpful to be a walk around my block too. The 5 or so minutes it will take me to walk around the block is more than enough time for temptation to go away.

Biggest challenges I have really in regards to No Fap is many of the threads on these boards. Particularly, back hotness, 10 thread, boobs lounge and co. I've haven't look at how you can block those thread just yet. Something I ought to do really. It's those threads that lead me to go back to day 1 by inevitably leading me back to porn.
