^good stuff red beard.

I struggle with the porn when 1. depressed mood kicks in (shitty day @ work, etc) 2. hungover. The hangovers urges are brutal.

That aside last night, got hit with an urge and decided to try something new. I put my book down and really focused in on the girl that I kept fantasizing about. I thought "Ok, if I can get fully hard with pure mental thought and no stimulation then yeah, lets shoot some elmer's." Urge was strong but never really got there and solidified that I have more control over this than I thought. Of course, if one mentally commits to its bodies urges and plops in front of the beegs of the world, yeah you are screwed.

In other words, I won the battle before it started by moving the battlefield.

Well done greekgod.

I've been reading the "Your Brain On Porn" book. The author, Gary Wilson, believes that it's not masturbation, or even porn that causes the mental issues. His claim is that high speed, rapid fire, porn tube sites that rewire our brains to crave the repeated stimulation of multiple fresh, new, partners. So if you convince yourself to jerk off to one girl, like you did, it's possible your brain will get over the stimulation from thinking about her. By removing porn sites, you are essentially cutting off that pathway down cravings.

Alright, I'm recommitting myself to this. Had a decent streak going throughout October, but ended up caving at the end of the month. I've been messing up a bunch since then (including last night), so it's time to get serious.

Good luck and welcome. Feel free to post here with any thoughts you have. I'm sure we would all benefit.

Seven days so far. I have cut out all suggestive imagery and I do not watch television. Aggression has subtly increased when out and about. Also, I am getting strong desire for women I would not normally approach.

I have finally made it past a month.

Things I did differently this time...

- Blocked all porn or adult sites on my laptop, phone and tablets with a code that I don't know the password too. One downside is the forum is blocked which has cut down on my posting. I emailed the code to myself at a future date so I will have to wait for that to arrive before I can resume normal forum posting.

- Made a bet with a friend that I have to pay him $50 every time I break the challenge and watch porn. He is trying to quit weed so it works both ways. I have only had to pay up once.

The bet along with zero access off any device I own has greatly helped.

Congrats, didn't know you were trying to stop.

Which blocker did you use? I used k9 for a while, but a few months ago I got a new laptop. I don't want to get viruses so I haven't watched porn on it once. iPhone is more of an issue now.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - Bushido - 11-08-2015 02:53 PM

I've been off and on the porn challenge for a while, but have definitely seen some changes.

In clubs, I never used to get boners even when grinding a girl. This has suddenly started to change. The last two nights I have been out I got dancing with girls and felt a boner rising up!

Another thing. If you fap occasionally then try to reduce your death grip to something much lighter. If you can't finish with the lighter grip then you don't finish. I have found that this greatly increases my sensitivity during sex.

Overall, it's nice to see some concrete changes as you put time into this. I have gone back and forth a few times and the benefits are still occurring.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - Atlantic - 11-08-2015 04:34 PM

@redbeard

On my laptop I think it is called DNS blocker. I also have leechblocker add on too and set it to 24 hours.

On my phone and tablet I set a restriction password and didn't look when I enter whatever it was. Retrospectively this wasn't the best move since its impossible to remove without resetting the whole phone. Even then its still hard.

I don't have a huge porn habit but I always wanted to do a year to see if it would make any big changes.

Not jacking off sucks.

I get regular sex, but because I've jerked too often, I have a problem cumming in a girl. Anyone else have this problem?

Go to settings > general > restrictions > websites > limit adult content. It'll block RVF by default so you'll have to allow access to it.

+1 for k9. I've tried quite a few options and it still seems to be the best. There are always workarounds of course, but there are also preventative measures you can put in place to make it much more difficult to uninstall.

I've currently got it on both my desktop and my laptop and it works wonders. I can access the sites I want, like this one, while blocking problem sites. I even use it to block sites like youtube that are huge time sucks for me. My productivity has increased tremendously as a result. Rather than wasting my time going down that rabbit hole I find more enriching activities like reading or meditation.

For my android phone I've installed an app called AppLock that allows you to limit which apps you can use. I don't know if it's available for iPhone, but I'm sure there are similar app blockers that you could try. You'll lose some of the phone's web based functionality, but you'll still have access to important functions like email, messaging, apps that you approve, etc.

Damn great find.

All you have to do is enter the passcode to allow access to sites. It takes two seconds...but if you are trying to open porn...it gives you another chance to say no. Highly recommend, much easier than using a mobile browser

I've just relapsed twice today. Currently my head feels really screwed up and I don't have motivation to work out or message girls anymore. How do you guys feel better after a relapse? Do you think it's worth trying to game girls even if you know you won't feel good and they can probably sense it? Not to mention the lowered sex drive, would be annoying if I can't get it up.

Man, I've been trying for years and still can't kick the habit.

In all honesty, that's how I've felt when relapsing, the energy difference is totally noticeable. I would hold off for a couple days, and you'll feel better (at least enough to go approach again). Quitting porn is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

I know this feeling man. Whenever I relapse I end up in a dark mood that makes gaming, and other positive aspects of life, feel pretty pointless.

In your current state I probably wouldn't force things when it comes to girls. You'll likely end up feeling worse. Just remember that this feeling is temporary and you can get back into the game in a few days when your head is in it.

That being said, use this negative feeling as motivation to really overcome this. Go to the gym. Work harder on improving yourself. Use this failure as fuel to improve your situation. Analyze the situation to figure out why you relapsed so that you can do things differently the next time. I try to treat relapses as learning experiences, and as opportunities to ultimately make myself better.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - Walter E Kurtz - 11-11-2015 12:08 AM

It has been over 3 months for me. No porn no jerking it, no nothing. I honestly don't know how I've done it. Kind of like turning off a faucet.

The fucked up thing is I don't care to approach girls or have much to do with them at all. I get disgusted whenever I talk to the modern girl. So disgusted that I just want to punch her in the fucking face.

I work in the nightlife and it's very easy to fuck with sluts. Hell girls offer to blow me just to let them in the fucking place. I used to fuck around with sluts and I thought they were great.

Now I'm just disgusted by most women and I only want a chaste girl(s) to impregnate.

If I can't have that then I'm not wasting any time on these fucking pigs. Also gaining this mastery over myself makes me feel superior to nearly everyone. While most men and women glut themselves on unhealthy vices and treat their reproductive organs like some drooling monkey squatting and flicking their junk around, I have been growing stronger through resisting my base urges.

It feels good to gain strength but sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - xpatplayer - 11-11-2015 07:50 PM

Watched porn today but didn't jerk off. Watched it to try and understand why it was so appealing.

There's a reason its not art - its just 2 people having sex, knowing that they are being recorded. Its also voyeuristic - internet pornography has made an entire generation of men have a sexual fetish that used to be uncommon.

My time, hands, sperm, and penis can be put to better use. If knowing that pornography is a form of sexual reprogramming doesn't deter me from watching it, I don't know what will.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - yeppels - 11-12-2015 03:52 PM

9 days no porn. I'm pretty actively thinking about having sex with women I've met, which hasn't happened in a while. Also waking up with some rock hard morning wood.

Ended up jerking off to the memory of a picture of Selena Gomez I saw hours before. Using my imagination I have no problems to jerk off to.

Anyways making some other life transitions like developing a solid morning routine and redefining some life goals. Once I spend some time on this and am on a good track I can start applying more energy to gaming women.

I'm glad that you're already responding to the process in such a positive way. Just a minor point, but you might want to be a little bit careful with the whole "jerking off to memories of pictures" thing. From what I understand, imagining yourself having sex is ok because you're actively involved in the scenario, much like in real life. However, we should avoid mentally replaying images or scenes that we've seen. It puts us back into the "viewer" mode, which we should try to avoid.

That being said, sounds like you're well on your way to overcoming this. I'm also in a similar period in life, so good luck and keep us updated.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - pressplay - 11-16-2015 03:43 PM

Like probably most of you, I started watching porn before the high-speed internet era. Downloading porn was inconvenient and super slow. Also I didn't have a clue where to look for it, I mostly used a mainstream site with an "erotic section" or a random google search as a starting point. Naturally, once I was lucky enough to find an enjoyable clip I kept it on my hard drive to have it available on demand. Over the years, the collection grew both in quantity and quality.

Fast forward to the last couple of years. Once I realized that consuming porn regularly was a habit that I wanted to get rid of, first step I took was to shift-delete the whole "collection" from my computer. While I didn't set a concrete goal, I reduced masturbating to porn significantly and also managed to abstain completely for weeks, sometimes months at a time.

I think the three main reasons I couldn't stay away from porn long-term were:
  • there was no external control, no one who supported or motivated me
  • like greekgod pointed out sometimes you are in a shitty mood because of a bad day at work or sth. and just don't care
  • the constant availability of free quality porn on tube sites

I'm starting the noporn challenge today with day 1. My goal: at least one full year.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - ColSpanker - 11-17-2015 08:19 PM

The problem with me is that it is always easier to fap. By fapping you get release. Chase girls, you might catch one and luck out, but you might just waste time. You waste time fapping, but you get release. I know time spent on game pays off in other areas, but Jesus H Christ, try telling that to your blue balls after a fruitless day or night. And this is the problem: you fap, release. You don't fap, no guarantee of release. I know since my dance with the reaper last month my poissy drive has plummeted. I need to get back up to maximum drive level and fapping away solves nothing.
Day one. Again.

I'm sure LOZ will warn you in the Wagon Thread, but depending on your situation, a year without drinking and trying to quit Porn/Jerking Off is very challenging.

We don't know you too well or what your challenges are, and you might be setting yourself up for failure by training to do both.

The best suggestion in my opinion would be to slow down on BOTH of them, then commit to ONE of the challenges. Try to get your drinking to < 6 drinks/week, masturbation to once a week, and porn use to a minimum. Then see which is causing the most damage to your life, and eliminate it.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious - redbeard - 11-19-2015 08:31 AM

Day 43 checking in.

In the past week I've been blue balled by two different girls (different occasions).

Back in the day I would've used these are prime opportunities to jerk off because I was horny as fuck. But now, by the time these girls leave, I am so tired that all I want to do is pass out. This is thanks to all of the sleep hacks I've been using that now cue me to pass out around 10 PM:

-Bright Light Therapy
-Coffee only before noon
-Less alcohol
-Darker bedroom
-High magnesium supplementation

I highly suggest guys trying to quit get their sleep game on point. Many of us are stuck in the habit of jacking off before going to sleep, and using these techniques above help break that habit.
