Thoughts gents?

I should learn how to post pics.

Beautiful shoe, too bad its a monk strap. But hey, thats just me. Monks straps are just not for my taste. I am not sure about out East, but here Monks have been played out hard by the hipster set, which is too bad.

Jeffry West eh, never looked at him before. Any experience with them?

I like those, except for the strap.

@ Laner - I am not really a fan of the monk strap, i have two pairs of JW and I wanted something different.
In Toronto I have not noticed a lot of monk straps being worn. I have heard in Van City there are quite a lot of fashion forward dudes.

Think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a pair of Fiorentini & Baker's ($450-$550).

I saw a pair at a second-hand exchange last week for $150, I was shocked. It was one goddamn size too small though.

I've seen some great shoes and ideas on this thread and wanted to contribute a good link for those who are looking into dub monks: http://dieworkwear.com/post/4086119731/the-double-monks-series-part-v-conclusion

Copped these recently. I was looking at Crockett & Jones as well as the Carmina ones but wound up liking the shape of the Paul Stuart kicks. Doesn't hurt that these were the cheapest of the three pairs I was looking at. Not Goodyear welted but I was really digging how rakish these looked. I've rocked with a suit and also casual with nice slim jeans and a crisp white dress shirt.

Shoutout to Tanner from masculine-style.com for a great style consultation. $25 for the basic consultation was totally worth it. Even if you've already got great style, Tanner can provide info that will take you to the next level.

I just picked up a pair of Allen Edmonds dalton boots. At $400, its the most money I have ever spent on shoes.

And they are well worth it.

Go great with dark jeans.

A.E. will replace the entire sole for $100 so you can keep them for decades.

Highly recommended.

Do you guys think that shell cordovan is worth the extra $$$?

RE: Let's talk shoes - Clint Barton - 03-11-2014 02:30 PM

Nice purchase. I'm thinking of grabbing a pair too. Prob next fall though since it gets too hot in NYC to wear boots during the summer.

Keep an eye out during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale this summer. They're usually about 30 percent off. It's around July 18th.

Can you guys recommend me a shoe brand? It's sort of hard to describe what I want. Kind of like Mark Nason or John Varvatos, but more casual sneakers. Or really any cool casual sneakers. I usually wear chukkas or boat shoes but I'd like to have another casual shoe that is more interesting than the ugly New Balances I see all over the place.

These Pegabo are super comfy and look great, as well. I have a pair.

Nordstrom's tan/navy 1901 suede saddle shoes are currently on sale for $67. Free return shipping. I haven't tried these, but at first glance that looks like a really good summer daytime dressy shoe for that price. I have found Nordstrom's 1901 line to usually be a good balance of quality and price.

Hey,

what shade are those boots? are they the bourbon or the walnut burnished?

Thanks

RE: Let's talk shoes - Goldmund - 05-16-2014 03:43 PM

Walnut...polish them up and they really pop. Can notice them from down the block.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Haig - 05-16-2014 04:44 PM

Cheers Goldmund

Will definitely look into buying them. Hopefully the shipping to Scotland isn't too expensive.

RE: Let's talk shoes - kmhour - 05-16-2014 09:57 PM

Haig, if you're in the UK and like that style, depending on how the exchange rate shakes out you might be better off buying the Crockett and Jones Islay boot. it's the boot Daniel Craig wears in Skyfall which is a cool connection. and I think a Dainite sole is better for a boot than a leather sole, as on the AE boot. with a leather sole I'd be a little iffy wearing it in wet weather, which kind of defeats the purpose of a boot.

Lets just be real here about shoes. Most shoes cost between a dollar and three dollars to manufacture. If you are smart you'll buy direct from the factory and save yourself 1000's of dollar over your entire life.

Need fact checking? Go to HAIZHU SQUARE outside the PSB in Guangzhou. There you will find the wholesalers for the factories in GZ. The most expensive club/cosplay boots I could find for my wife, I only paid 15 bucks for down there. Most shoes nike/adidas and all that other crap can be had from a wholesaler for about 6 to 10 bucks. If you need any big sizes (like I do) then they can be found in Xiaobei where all the african foreigners frequent. The only difference in price comes from WHERE you buy them. The most expensive new balance shoe in the new balance store will run you about 50 USD, that's nearly 300 rmb here. I bought the best, most comfortable pair of sneakers ever for 30 RMB, white air jordans, absolutely amazing and they cost all of 5 bucks.

Not if you're talking about hand made shoes. I really doubt that my TOD'S shoes cost less than 100$ to make. Good materials + man hours
