Allen Edmonds Strand suede cap-toe on sale at Macy's. With coupon code FRIEND it drops the price to around $200, which is almost half-off. It's hard to find Allen-Edmonds shoes that deeply discounted.

Just ordered a pair of black Doc Martens 1461's. I wear black jeans a lot and the only black shoes I have are dress shoes for my suit and a shitty pair of low top Converse I wear while lifting, so these should fill a hole in my wardrobe.

Edit: They look overly clunky close up, this is how they actually look in outfits.

I've found finding black semi-dressy shoes that look stylish and masculine without being too clunky is difficult. I bought a pair of Clarks Un.ravel for the same situation. They are really, really comfortable but I think they look horrible. Way too clunky.

Somehow those 1461's look a lot better. Maybe it's the clean lines up top and the stitching around the soles. I might look into a pair of these as replacements for the Clarks.

Not a fan of those Clarks at all. Sell/return them and get a pair of 1461's, they not only look better but they're less expensive too.

What do you guys think of these?

Allen Edmonds Leather Captoes $100 off at Brooks Brothers. The browns are selling out fast, but the blacks still have most sizes left. These are really dressy shoes. Keep in mind that the Broooks Brothers versions of these things have rubber soles instead of leather, if I'm not mistaken.

I almost bought these exact same shoes in dark brown, from Windsor Smith.

drageur, that's a pretty standard two-eyelet chukka boot, can't go wrong. I have a similar pair in brown suede although not quite such a pointed toe (mine are a copy of the Church's Ryder boot). goes well with jeans, khakis, anything like that. although I do find with chukkas you need a more tapered fit in the pants leg and a little less of a break otherwise they look kind of silly.

RE: Let's talk shoes - draguer - 06-09-2014 10:16 PM

I ended up not getting them and opted for some brown leather dress shoes.

In store, with the ones I posted above, it turned out that the brown in the photo was quite different and up close they didn't look as good.

I really like the doc martens, I really like the chunky shoe with skinny jeans look. Only thing is they are a massive trend here. Every girl you see is wearing doc marten shoes, cropped black skinny jeans, and a boxy overcoat / boxy denim jacket / varsity jacket. Not as bad for men, but still a lot.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Patriarch - 06-10-2014 09:13 AM

For anyone interested in getting some Allen Edmonds, remember that Nordstrom's semi-annual men's sale starts this Friday, and their big annual sale starts in July. Last year both the McCallister and Strand were 40% off. I'm trying to snag a pair of the McCallister's in walnut this year.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Orion - 06-10-2014 03:43 PM

Bought these, tho i wear them with navy blue laces supplied, usually wear them bundled with blueish trousers and shirts. I bought casual looking shoes after previous 2 pairs of black leather business style shoes, so kinda breathing with something to wear in between sneakers and formal shoes.

that sounds completely awful with the exception of the skinny jeans.

From what I'm seeing so far, Nordstroms appears to be trying to dump their low sellers into their June sale. Perhaps it might be better to wait for their 4 July sale for the real bargains.

That pretty much summed up what I saw. There was maybe one pair of shoes that I would have bought. I can wait another month.

Just picked up some two-eyelet Ferragamo Chukkas on eBay for $60 shipped. Damn near brand new. I feel like I'm stealing them. Nordstrom Rack always has some great shoes too. Though nothing like two years ago when I snatched up two pairs of Gucci loafers, some Ferragamo driving shoes, and Bally boots/Chukkas for $100 a piece. They've smartened up since than and I can;t touch a pair Bally loafers for under $250. I miss the good ole days

RE: Let's talk shoes - MtnMan - 06-18-2014 10:50 AM

I need some shoe advice gents. My style is pretty basic, just a tight fitting v-neck t-shirt (dark colors) well fitting good quality jeans. I feel most comfortable in this style. The town where I go out dudes dress pretty poorly on average, so I get looks from girls for just having well fitting fresh clothes.

I would consider myself to have a bit of a biker-ish/gearhead edge. I have ear rings and usually rock a decent sized titanium ring that I made from a 5/8" nut. I don't have a universal look, but enough girls seem to be into it, and I feel comfortable with this style.

The question I have is for the foot ware to match. I used to rock big, tall redwing logger boots (black). I don't currently own any of these that are in good enough shape to wear out.

Lately I have been rocking these shoes, but I think I want something more edgy.

do you guys have a suggestion of the type of shoes or boots that could be a little bit badass without being crazy huge logger boots. Maybe some kind of mix of badass and stylish. (I am 6'4" without boots, so i am ridiculously tall with 2" high boot heels)

I am at a bit of a loss here.

Here is a pic of me in my typical attire.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks dudes.

I'm also 6'3 and grew tired of my timberlands so I'm thinking about something like this for next season:

stylish and badass d[/align]efines it.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks dudes.

Some suggestions:
Summer daytime- desert boots (suede chukkas) in grey or tan
Summer nighttime- Doc Marten oxfords (look earlier in this thread)
Fall, winter, spring- Wolverine 1000 mile boots in dark brown or tan or Blundstone slip-on boots. If you don't want boots that look too rugged, you can choose the Blundstones that have thinner soles. Those will look a little more refined but still have some ruggedness to them. Also, a monk-strap boot will look edgy.

Desert boots are fine to wear in summer, but I'm confused as to why you'd specifically recommend them for summer when they're classic Autumn shoes. Boat shoes for summer days makes much more sense.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Stun - 06-19-2014 02:59 AM

I just bought these at Nordstrom's sale for around $200. I was inspired by Goldmund's Allen Edmonds boots, which my Nordstroms said they don't carry anymore. (I'll still buy them later if I can find them for around the same price.)

Since desert boots were designed for wear in the desert (supposedly) my image of them is for hot weather. I think they're fine, however, for autumn until the weather turns cool. Since I live in kind of a temperate place, I usually switch to heavier boots as soon as the summer heat starts to wane, because I think heavier boots are more masculine.

I dont know if it has been mentioned on the 11 pages already but besides Allen Edmonds, one of my other favorite high quality dress shoe makers are Meermin http://www.meermin.es/

They are located in Spain. They have Value Added Tax (VAT) but Americans do not have to pay the VAT. They come out to be around $200-250 USD when you deduct the VAT but include the shipping costs.

what do you guys think of boots like this
[Image: 2422781-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg]

with dark boot-cut jeans, well fitting jeans and a well fitting plain dark color v-neck tee?

this is my typical going out style
