They are also fairly flat, so it gives your body a rest from the damage inflicted by dress shoes with heels.

Black leather shoes tend to be more formal, and during summer you wear lighter shoes/clothes. If you want driving mocs for summer wear, get light brown or similiar. More versatile and look better for summer/warm weather.

^ Yeah I mostly wear lighter colours, that was just the example of the model of the shoe that came up when I googled it.

I got some of these Ferragamo shoes relatively cheap yesterday at Nordstroms- 'only' $360 for shoes that would cost like £450 in England. This is a good time to check out the shoes on sale at Nordstroms.

Go great with dark jeans.

A.E. will replace the entire sole for $100 so you can keep them for decades.

Highly recommended.

How do you get that tight rolled up break on jeans like in that picture?

Let's talk shoes...

Suggestions for shoes to wear with a black suit/white shirt? Similar to the picture below. Is black the only proper colour choice?

On an unrelated note, how do you guys feel about white bucks?

Don't know that i've ever seen someone rock them in my neck of the woods.

I dropped a thread on different ways to roll your pants. You just have to pinch the fabric to get a tighter break like that.

I have a pair. Mine are "sail", I think it's called -- more of an off-white. They're also brogue.

Not something that I pull out of the closet often, but I definitely like them. Many men's fashion "authorities" consider them essentials.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Chaos - 08-29-2014 12:25 AM

I went to Siam Paragon today to look on some Loake 1880.
Of course they don't have bigger sizes so I couldn't even try.
+ they are expensive here in Thailand.

Hard to find decent shoes with larger sizes.

This weekend I bought a similar pair made by Bass.

As someone who doesn't like the white shirt/black suit outfit, I think it would look fantastic with those shoes.

Why? Because the outfit started out dull, but then you turned the whole thing on its head with the unconventional shoe choice. Match it with a white leather belt for sure. Maybe a checked tie.

Most of you guys are hipsters/yuppies yet don't know it.....or don't want to admit it.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Clint Barton - 08-31-2014 03:51 PM

Why even wear the black suit unless you were going to a funeral or trying to dress it up for a formal event? In either case black cap toes like the Ferragamos above are an easy choice.

Allen Edmonds' annual sale is ongoing until 21 October. It's often difficult to find AE first-line shoes (AE also has a "seconds" line that go on sale more often) on sale. Although Nordstrom frequently puts AE shoes on sale, their color selections are usually more limited than the AE site.

Most of the shoes are about 15% off. Some, however, like the Fifth Avenue, are almost 30% off.

I was browsing around because I need to buy some loafers and ran into a pair of decent looking Bacco Bucci. I don't really have any knowledge of this brand can anyone fill me in if they are worth the buy, the loafers are only 80$

I just noticed this (new?) shoe from Dr. Martens. It's a shiny steel toe. I can't decided if it's badass or over-the-top. What do you think?

Over the top. I imagine Gwar shoulderpads with chrome spikes and a green long hair whig to go with them.

Wolverine 1000 boots in select colors on sale. These things hardly ever go on sale. These and Red Wings are about the most masculine boots that I know of.

These look cool from the side view, but the overhead view makes them look too rounded and bubble-toed, which makes them look really "construction boot" to me. May be different in real life, but I like a little more flat and pointed toe.

RE: Let's talk shoes - Mentavious - 11-23-2014 09:11 AM

Hoping some sales for them Red Wings shoes will show up during the Black Friday weekend

I agree. However, I think H&M has what you're looking for: the same look but with a much slimmer, sportier euro-style.

Check out the chelseas, "leather boots", lace-up boots and deserts here and I think they'll be what you're looking for: http://www.hm.com/us/subdepartment/MEN?Nr=2039442#Nr=4294871015 Plenty more affordable too!

I do like those better. May have to pick some up next time I'm stateside.

I'm still sporting the Donald Pliners I bought a few years ago. Had them re-heeled and they're good to go. They're mostly just for the weekend though. My everyday "dress boots" are some Johnston Murphy's that I have mixed feelings about. They started out great, but the leather fell apart inside and needed fixing up way sooner than they should have. They were about $120, but compared to the $180 JM dress shoes I've had for a decade, they were not nearly as well-made. I like a shoe I can re-heel at least twice, but I don't want to spend $500 for a pair either.

RE: Let's talk shoes - monster - 11-23-2014 10:56 AM

H&Ms I think last for 6 months, but there price point is around $50 so you just replace them with a newer style once or twice a year.

I wish they lasted longer too but oh well, they have the nicest, sleekest most eurostyle of all the boots I've seen and I've been looking pretty extensively.

Just got those for the winter.

I'd love a nice dress shoe that felt as comfortable as a minimus sneaker.

I've heard rockports are super comfortable, but have never liked 90% of their styles. They have a few decent ones though.

RE: Let's talk shoes - DJ-Matt - 11-24-2014 01:39 PM

On my black Friday shopping list is some nice warm hunting snake boots with thick insulation.
