2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - chyamor - 09-26-2013 04:54 PM

I need to buy a new car. I was learning towards a used audi quattro A4 Premium plus with about 10k miles for 32k but have to admit that new 2014 honda hybrid for same price is nice

Being in early 30s with a good job which would you get? Im not a big car guy. To me its just a box on 4 wheels but I figure since this will last 6-7 years might as well get something decent

Gets 50 mpg and has the new toys (lane warning, camera's etc)

I think around 22-25 mpg

My old car was a honda coupe v6 with 21 mpg and I hated pissing away money on gas every time at the fuel pump. $4 a gallon here

You're gonna drop 32k on a car?

Life is short man, get something fun.

Shit, for 32k you could even get a used M3 or 911 if you're will to pay for the maintenance.

I'm leaning toward the 370 for my next ride.

I'm not the primary car expert here on this forum, but here is one thing you need to look into if the Honda is your call. How is the transmission for the Accord Hybrid? Lot of my friends in the car industry (or ones that have owned Hondas) all say to get a stick shift Honda as the transmissions are 100% durable...however...I've had a lot of friends that were Honda owners of automatic transmissions that failed after the 70-90K mile point...something you should probably research before making this purchase.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Christian McQueen - 09-26-2013 05:10 PM

Audi all the way. Looks good, isn't too flashy and generally reliable.

Hondas are fine; if you're in college or in your 20's. Live a little.

I will say for $32k there is ALOT of luxury cars you could snag though...

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - chyamor - 09-26-2013 05:16 PM

Any suggestions McQueen? My old honda v6 coupe lasted almost 10 years. Had 120k miles on it so Ive pretty much been out of the car game for almost a decade.

Id like to stick with a sedan. I know bmz and benz's but they just dont do anything for me

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Christian McQueen - 09-26-2013 05:20 PM

^^^If luxury cars don't do anything for you I'm not much help lol.

But...

You could get a Lexus, which are very reliable + sophisticated enough. Audi is good. Personally I love cars, especially flashy ones, but to each their own.

Are SUV's out? You can get a Lexus RX300 for that price.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - CactusCat589 - 09-26-2013 05:25 PM

Is this a real question?

The Audi is simply brimming with sex. Would ride in it again.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - OGNorCal707 - 09-26-2013 05:38 PM

Honda Accord guy here so I guess I'm pretty biased, but that new 2014 Accord looks fucking bad ass. Sure Audi is a "luxury car", but to me the Honda looks just as nice, and probably has just as much cool amenities as the Audi. It's kind of like getting an Omega Vs a Rolex, the Omega is just a nice for less money, but the Rolex has the name and recognition that comes with it.

What's the gas milage on the Audi, you can't really beat 50 MPG, that would sell it for me right there, gas prices are going up like a mofo, and prices will hardly ever drop at least not the in the long haul. Plus maintance for the Honda should be much less, although yb13 may be right about the automatic transmissions on the Accord though, I have an 01' and had to redo the transmission at about $100,000 which wasn't cheap.

That said if you got 32 g's to drop on a car you must be doing damn well for yourself, I tip my hat to you sir, or you must not be the type to spend your money traveling. I figure I've spent about that much on international travel over the past 10 years, and sometimes I think damn, I could have spent that money on a pimp ass ride.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Drazen - 09-26-2013 06:04 PM

I'd go with the Honda. Audi is nice looking and sexy but people I know have had problems with them, especially after 50k miles. If you were leasing I'd go Audi but if you're buying it, German cars are quite expensive to maintain.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Screwston - 09-26-2013 06:04 PM

I would get an older lexus es for a 1/3 of that price. Every other luxury car will have more problems than a lexus. Hondas are cool if you dont need something real nice.

Why not save your 32K and instead lease a brand spanking new Audi or any other brands that strikes your fancy for 3-4 years and replace it with a newer one? Less cash spent, plus you're not dealing with any of the problems associated with car ownership. And you'd save yourself the 32k and use that to travel. Tip: do not put any down payment on a lease!
Also when it comes to maintenance, BMW and their service is simply spectacular!

I also agree with the poster who wrote that Hondas are more for your 20's when you're just starting. In your 30's and specially if you're doing well, then time to step up and upgrade your ride.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Pete - 09-26-2013 06:59 PM

From those two I'd choose the Audi: classier, more elegant, and more exclusive. But as VP said there are better options.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - Parlay44 - 09-26-2013 07:05 PM

I like the Audi but they have notorious suspension problems from what I hear.
Plus they're not cheap to fix.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - el mechanico - 09-26-2013 07:24 PM

The Audi will start breaking after 20k miles. If you need the details I can tell you what and when. They all do the same stuff. Although that little A3 turbo is one of the funnest little zip around cars I've ever driven. I love it.

Honda is Honda hands down the best products in the world. But, sometimes a bit boring.

If you don't care just buy a corrola for cash and be done with car issues.

Yep. a friend of mine had to pay thousands to fix his suspension.

RE: 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid or 2011 Audi - chyamor - 09-26-2013 07:34 PM

I looked at leasing and the numbers dont add up. Lets say a 2014 A4 fwd cost 33,000
a lease of 472 a month for 36 month comes out to 17,000 plus $1500 due at signing to make it $18,500
meaning in a 3 year lease I have already paid for more than half the value. You figure on a 33k car the deprecation will be 7-10k after 3rd year
which still puts it in the 22-25k range.

Unles you can negotiate on a lease and drop it down to low 400 or high 380's?

Hey El Mech. What are your thoughts on the stability of Subarus? Preferably the Subaru Outback newer versions?

Likely my new car once I get back home from my 1 year US hiatus.

Nobody here works on their own cars or knows someone who does it for cheap?

You did spend that on a pimp ass ride. A pimp ass ride around the world.

And unlike a car - the value of that won't depreciate as the years go by.

Not to promote YOLOing but even if a 'nicer' car may be more expensive to maintain, if you have the money who cares?
