The general epic nature of Dore's prints makes them appropriate to this thread.

Le Brenn et sa part de butin ("Brennus and His Share of the Spoils", also known as: "Spoils of the Battle"), by Paul Jamin, 1893

I can't help but smile when I see this painting! Love the blood trickling down the steps and the dead faces of the harem guards in the bottom left.

Hope Brennus had a good time, 'cos the Romans kicked his ass soon after.

Quote:In the Battle of the Allia, Brennus defeated the Romans, and entered the city itself. The Senones captured the entire city of Rome except for the Capitoline Hill, which was successfully held against them. According to legend Marcus Manlius Capitolinus was alerted to the Gallic attack by the sacred geese of Juno. However, seeing their city devastated, the Romans attempted to buy their salvation from Brennus. The Romans agreed to pay one thousand pounds weight of gold. According to Livy, during a dispute over the weights used to measure the gold (the Gauls had brought their own, heavier-than-standard), Brennus threw his sword onto the scales and uttered the famous words "Vae victis!", which translates to "woe to the conquered!".

which has to be completed by a painting of the famous, "unbreakable" British Square, which did got broken (though it successfully repaired itself):

Just to distract from the getting laid motif.

That's like pre-photorealism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photorealism

It's a beautiful painting both technically and content wise. You know what I mean. I'm not an art critic.

Astounding.

"I've got the conch!"

Just about the total opposite meaning.

One is a call to bring the demons to manifest.

The other is a call to herald all the beauty and all that is good in this world. All that is 'holy'.

And from the 19th Century as well.

We have been lied to!

Kind of makes me wish I had been invited to the party.

But even more kinda glad, that I wasn't!

Just saw that the source of your code is:

It seems to be getting swallowed up in the image tags.

Just a FYI.

Any idea how to get a cheap print version / reproduction of these great painting to hang on the walls?

My "battle of poitiers" painting can easily cost 300e if bought online, but I dont see why I cant just go to a photography studio and ask for a big ass print of the picture. So far none of the shops I visited has agreed. The tricky part is to find an original file that can be printed on high resolution. Then there's this whole fuckassery about copyright laws.

Might not have some of the lesser known artists, but these start at around $20:

A classic painting has just entered the battle for European elections, being chosen by the Right-Wing party of Germany to illustrate the dangers of radical Islam.

Only 1 Rockwell Painting? Maybe I'm biased as he's my favorite artist but come on.
