Extraordinarily well written movie with terrible reviews: Reach Me - Off The Reservation - 02-27-2019 01:58 PM

I see a parallel in Amazon's banning of Roosh's Bang not because it is vulgar or violates some rational standards, but because it encourages men and women to make traditional unions and families, to this movie and it's reviews.

By accident I ran across this movie Reach Me and really enjoyed it. It is basically the story of a motivational writer who is a recluse. His book is a hit and a lot of the plot revolves around people trying to find who he is and the lives of those impacted positively by his book. The movie is written and directed by John Herzfeld who is obviously not from the right part of Hollywood that receives automatic review and morning show praise for whatever they make.

The reviews are some of the worst I've ever seen, click on 4% to see the "professional" reviews: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/reach_me

There must be something so threatening in this movie (it's gone that far off the reservation?) to the establishment narrative that has made or ordered all the professional reviewers to step in line for a chance to trashing this movie.

I'll make a few comments which are revealing but not spoilers. Stalone is absolutely fantastic in this movie and interplays with the main character so well in a surprise alliance.

In the movie here are a few things that happen:
Normal man meets woman romance.
A woman confronts a thug and doesn't take her abuse.
A mob hitman faces his life and realizes he wants something else.
An actual legit metoo type moment is dealt with by men who knock the teeth out of the perp.
Some people make simple changes like not cursing any more or not smoking.

If you have seen it what is your take?

If you have another example of shadow-banning through reviews of something good please post it.

Oldie, but a goodie.

"We Sleep, they live" - would never be made today.

Thx, just DL'ed it will watch soon.

The motivational writer who make a hit is a serious and interesting plot but also the only way to go in present time.
Even if you don't worry about getting doxxed or losing your job, the simple fact that "the truth is to be told anonymously" might be the only message to be retained after watching this.

Great point. I won't comment on what happens but this theme is a part of the story.

And now for the opposite story, a piece of social engineering garbage gets its audience reviews deleted.

That fight scene was so hilarious and long.

Great movie. Surprised they haven't tried to remake it. Hard to image the LA skyline without the US Bank Tower.

Wouldn't it be nice if more tent cities were dealt with like in the movie?

I watched the film on your recommendation but I wasn't a big fan.

I can appreciate that it fits so much into one film, but feel it veers into jack of all trades, master of none territory which diminishes the effect of each individual arc and the combination thereof.

I'll never accuse the film of being simple or unambitious. It was different and interesting by virtue of being not the usual pozzed fare.
