They don't even have their own building....

To put it in perspective the Bucks broke the previous sales record a month or so ago at $550 million. The Arena they play in is crap as 2nd only to Sacramento, but at least they get revenues from it....

The Clippers don't get shit but gate revenues, and though they made 100 million in revenues last year, Sterling only took home bank from running a no frills team. For many years he would fire most of the office staff in the summer an then re-hire them, dude was cheap as hell. Sterling walks away with the biggest hustle I. Pro sports history as he bought the team for $12 million way back when. This team is only worth $600 million, not sure who you say it's worth more. Now Seattle's future price will be way higher, now the Lakers by default have to be worth $4 billion, when this defies all logic as they NBA does not pump out revenues to justify that valuation.

Another example is the LA Dodgers that held the previous record for a sports franchise price by being sold for 1.89 billion. But this included a a Stadium, massive development land, oil wells, and a tied in massive TV deal...

Clippers have none of that.

Last example is that he Clippers have sold more then Manchester United (mid 2000s inflation adjusted). Basically there market value indicates some how it's worth more then the biggest sports property/brand on earth in ManU.

Silver and the owners will rubber stamp this as it drives the whole leagues valuations up. Balmer is a clown, he couldn't understand Microsofts value while he was there either !

Balmer is no clown.

If you had billions in cash to burn where would you prefer to have it ??

1-bank account getting 1% or less
2- Treasuries paying 2-3%
3-an active business that requires minimal management that is also protected by a monopoly that is expanding rapidly globally ????

I'd choose #3 !

I read that Larry Bird was annoyed with Stephenson's shenanigans. I'd be surprised if Stephenson stays a Pacer next season.

If the upcoming TV contract does what people think it will then Balmer was just ahead of the curve.

You can't really compare LAC to MIL because MIL is a small market with no notable players. LAC is in a large TV market with two superstars.

$2MM is high, but teams don't go up for sale very often. Balmer wanted to lock down the deal at the expense of his short term finances.

Sometimes its dificult too understand the plight of those who have too much money.

At Ballmers level , the problem is actually finding enough proper investments to place the money.

He will have no need for the capital invested ever.....for the rest of his life...the goal is to get it out of cash since interest rates will go negative soon...

San Antonio's coach almost blew the game. Ginobili choked at the foul line in regulation. The need better play and coaching to beat the Heat.

The Based God curse lives on

Thunder don't have what it takes, and probably won't for a while. Miami & OKC both have 2.5 stars, but the Heat's stars are veterans who have the experience of both losing and winning championships. Durant & Westbrook don't know what it takes to win yet, and probably won't for at least another 2-3 years.

Durant's offensive game is about as good as it's going to get. He needs to get stronger. Remember when he was the only rookie at the draft combine that couldn't bench 185? He's still got the same small frame and can't post up defenders like Danny Green effectively.

Westbrook really impressed me this series. He's a better competitor than Durant and is the true alpha on the team. He had some monster games and if he can up his IQ a bit and limit turnovers he'll be one of the best guards for years to come.

As for the Spurs, what more can you say? They're the epitome of how an organization, coach, and players work as a team to win basketball games. Anybody who is really a fan of basketball has to respect them and enjoy watching them play. Don't take it for granted cause Timmy/Parker/Manu will all retire in the next couple of years.

Heat vs. Spurs rematch. The Heat are a team with two of the greatest players in the NBA, excellent defense, and efficient role players. The Spurs are a team that relies on ball-movement and unselfish players, a strong bench, and experience. It will be another great Finals Series and I think that if they can remain healthy, the Spurs' deeper bench, Kawhi's improvements, and Popovich's adjustments will beat LeBron & the Heat in 7.

RE: The NBA Thread
The strange thing is is that both the Spurs and OKC this might be the lay or second last year of their runs. For how old the Spurs are, OKC is crippled just from the facts of money and the cap. They can't afford to keep all these pieces and ownership has been vocal in not wanting to pay luxury taxes. This is when the small town reality of Oklahoma City will become a reality. They have one more year left, if they can't get it down next year, they never will with this current group.

OKC has no where to go until Westbrook understands that the best player on the team is Durant.

Durant also needs to bulk up a bit in order to post up and get more efficient shots in the playoffs.

They may have to trade Westbrook - he just doesnt get it.[/align]

You must not have watched much of this season. Pop didn't give a single player an average greater of 30 mpg this season because he was testing the efficiency of all types of lineups. Spo has grown into a good coach, but he is no match for Pop. The Spurs almost won in six last year with a limping Tony Parker and a non-existent Manu Ginobli. I don't see the Heat winning 3 games this year. My gut says Spurs in 6, but I really would be surprised to see them take the trophy in 5.

I don't think Westbrook can play the way you want him to. If he takes a backseat, he will cool off and all that passion will go. He made some great defensive plays last night..I believe I saw him block collison..etc..and a steal for the lay in etc..so I have to come to realise that OKC need that energy. You live and die by it. If he plays that passive game..OKC will be out a lot sooner..no one says nothing when Westbrook pours in 40..but it's the same passion that can get him 40 that will can get him to jump in the air to pass

I agree with you. But this is exactly why he needs to go.

He's like Allen Iverson. He needs his own team built to his specifications and inefficiency.

He cost OKC that game down the stretch.

Damn. That's some basketball porn right there. I need to play soon.

A little off topic, but do you guys play basketball as well as watch it? I've been playing since I was 12 years old. I'm not very skilled, but I'm scrappy, a streaky shooter, a good defender, and I have some finishing moves to get me by. Back in the states I was playing 3x a week but now that I'm in Japan it's hard to find the time/venue. Anybody else play?

OKC would have easily lost to Memphis if they didn't have Westbrook.

I play about 8-10 hours of full court a week now. I have decent handles, but not good enough to run point when I'm playing against guys that played in college. I euro-step and rifle passes with one arm like Ginobli. Depending on the IQ of my teammates, I will either make cuts to the rim or cuts out to the three. I used to set a lot of picks to set up a pick and roll, but I've noticed not enough people know how to use it properly so I stopped wasting my energy.
