RE: The NBA Thread
The big thing to consider when it comes to extensions and contracts is the new TV deal the NBA has. With his years in the league, his max contract is gonna be 25% of the teams salary cap. The cap is expected to take a decent sized jump once everything's done, so what's now 25% of the salary cap could end up being 19-20% of the teams cap, which is only 3-4% higher than what Tony Parker is making now.

RE: The NBA Thread
Cody you are wrong.

Kawhi is 100% a max player and will be playing on a max contract next year. His defense is elite and that is as important as offense.

I read more into it and the Spurs are trying to maneuver to have more flexibility to sign someone this offseason if Duncan and Manu retire.

By not extending Kawhi now, they could sign a big player and then extend Kawhi, but if they extended him first they couldnt sign the big outside player.

So that is their gameplan. Kawhi will be on a max deal, zero doubt. If the Spurs will not do it, someone else will. Knicks would love Kawhi and will have tons of cap space. But I imagine they are more than happy to give Kawhi the max. No one wants to get Hardened nowadays.

Will just wait for February for the trade deadline.

Ray Allen is still not playing, waiting for bigger offers.

RE: The NBA Thread
Has it ever happened that such an important player hasn't signed with a team till the all-star break? Are people just assuming he will sign with the Cavs?

I'd really like to see him sign with the Bulls or Spurs. That would put one of those teams definitely over the edge.

Good to see the Raptors playing good basketball and winning consistently now.
4-1 is not a bad way to start a new season.
What do you guys think of this years Raps team and where do you see them going?

Topping the Atlantic Division is well within their reach and that would give them a solid spot in the top of the table for the playoffs and possibly home court advantage. Which is huge in playoffs.

The Raps are probably one of the very only handful things that are good about Toronto. At least now. Would love them to have a run deep into the playoffs in the spring!

Dubs have great ball movement now, probably the biggest improvement going from Jackson to Kerr.

Fox,

Right now I would be more worried about the Dubs than the Clips.

Clips pulled out a few close wins over subpar teams. They are not looking good right now.

Dubs look amazing. Health tho...

GSW have completely dismantled both in a week.

If Warriors are healthy come play offs, they'll be in WCF for sure

RE: The NBA Thread
I have to say, it may be delusions of grandeur, but the Celtics are looking... Not as Philadelphia-like as I thought they would. Guys want no part of bringing the ball up the court with Bradley and Smart out there, Rondo is balling and the shots are falling. Brad Stevens spent the summer studying the Spurs and wanted to implement their style of play (particularly their pace). This next month will really decide which way this team goes, because they have a lot of assets and they can make a move to be in the playoff mix, or they can continue on this path developing the team and get another good pick next year. The main issue is that they don't have a 5. Kelly O is not going to be the rim protector of the future. Either way I love this team.

beware of drinking that warriors koolaid breauxs. you live by the jumper you die by the jumper...

also I look forward to brad Stevens career dude is a strait genius on the hardwood. It takes a true gift to coach a limited talent team (butler) and turn them into winners. he can clearly coach is ass off and if what you say about him studying the spurs is true then this is a guy that "gets it".

Warriors have an incredible defense to go with their killer three point shooting. That is the real key. David Lee going down may actually help them.

I remember watching that fight live on TV

Those 2 squads had some fierce battles because they were the two best in the East (80-84')

Doc wasn't even suspended back then, just fined

The league was 3 times more physical then; hand checking, elbows etc

Shit - nowadays guys like Larry or Moses would be shelling out half their salaries for smack talking

RE: The NBA Thread
This season has been looking top notch. I love the first ten games of the season, everybody still is fresh, still trying to figure out their rotations, the new trades are still settling in, it's beautiful.

I haven't been following the league completely but have caught a lot of games on TV either at bars or while working.

The Grizzlies will do very well, make some trade moves (RAY ALLEN?) and will upset teams in the west.

I think we should make an NBA betting pool here...even if it's not money, /r/nba always has funny bets where people have to change their signature or something of that nature.

At times, it appears Kobe is just trying to impose his massive desire and will

He has been one of my favorite players to watch since he entered the league in 1996

I just hate that he really doesn't have a chance in the deep west this year; it's almost like we have all seen how this movie ends even though it's in it's opening sequence

That he is, case in point.

Kobe Bryant sets all-time record for misses

Quote:Kobe Bryant set the NBA record for missed shots his way – inefficiently.

Needing 13 misses entering the night to break the record, Kobe raced to tie John Havlicek’s mark. The Lakers superstar missed his 12th shot against the Grizzlies with 2:49 left in the third quarter. But he drew a couple fouls to close the period and began the fourth quarter on the bench, leaving history to wait.

Finally, 15 seconds after re-entering the game, Kobe missed a 14-footer with 6:22 to take sole possession the record. It took longer than expected, but basketball immortality was his as his stat line hit 7-for-20.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...or-misses/

With that said, he wouldn't have been able to acquire this rather dubious distinction if he wasn't the go to guy for so long. Although his shot selection is notoriously insane, he has made a living taking and making shots like at 0:03, so you can't help but tip your hat to him.

Raps about to tip off at home against Bulls on TNT nation wide in US. I like them and I follow them but I predict their first mauling of the season tonight. Bulls defense can lock them down and discourage them and they have no answer for Rose... but I guess I'll watch and see anyway
