RE: The NBA Thread
What a fantastic ball game last night between the Spurs and the Cavs. Bestand most entertaining match of the season so far hands down! 2 great teams playing tremendous basketball, end to end. Had everythng of a possible Finals match up.

Some random thoughts:

The Spurs are back. Tony is healthy and back! After a shaky 2nd part of the season plagued with injuries, players are back and the system is functioning again.

Leonard is a beast in both ends of the field, defensively and offensively. He will get his big fat contract this summer and will be THE star of the new Spurs team from next year on. If only he had not missed 3/4 FTs in the last 40 seconds or so, the Spurs would have won that match.

The way the game ended, it reminded me of Game 6 of the 2013 finals, where the Spurs had the game in the bag, leading by 6 with about 30 seconds to go. Then just as Ray Allen did in the last seconds of that cursed match, Irving made 2 crucial 3s in the last few seconds to send the game to OT.

Both games lost tactically by the Spurs...

Onto the Cavs:

The Cavs have a royal path to the Finals. The East is weak and no one can stop them as long as Lebron and Irving are healthy. As simple as that.

On the other hand, the West is hellishly tough. Any team from the West will be heavily favorites to win it in the end.

As a Spurs fan, I'm happy to see the team back and playing Spurs like ball after a shaky 2nd half of the season. With about 20 gams left, winning 17 of them would give them a shot at climbing the standings to # 3. Even #2 spot is not that out of reach. Then once the play offs start, it will be business as usual, another deep run...

I don't know about you guys, but I don't see Gloden State making it to the Finals this year, let alone winning it. Yes they have a very talented team with 2 monster players, but they seem a bit too soft and inexperienced for the Playoffs. This year will be a learning experience for them, then next season, with more experience, they will be a serious contender.

I would not be surprised if the Warriors get booted out in the first round, if they were to face OKC...

This looks to be a classic NBA season and play offs. One of the most wide open seasons in recent memories.

Kyrie Irving is a remix. Hybrid of Steve Francis and Arenas, Irving would of went off in the late 90s early 00s NBA. Iso ball was king and the most athletic and most aggressive scorers did work. It wasn't pretty ball back then but you had the best playmakers doing work each night. I can picture Irving in that old setting and thriving.

From NBA Cares twitter: 6 Ways Men Can Lean-In

Look at some of the assertions from the study:

Quote:Gender-blind studies consistently show that removing gender from decisions improves women’s chances of success. One study found that replacing a woman’s name with a man’s name on a résumé improved the odds of getting hired by 61 percent.

Quote:Male performance is often overestimated compared to female performance, starting with mothers overestimating boys’ crawling ability and underestimating girls’.

The study ends with this line:

Quote:As more men and women bring their whole selves to work, the bias linked to motherhood—and fatherhood—will begin to break down.

Only a woman would worry about "bringing her whole self to work" (there is a reason the term "leave your issues at home" is a phrase) but, most importantly, it is because home lives bring very little value to women's lives.

I'm not going to lie, as far as the "red pill line" on this stuff goes, I usually don't care. This shit in commercials and whatnot has never really made me sweat. For some reason, this campaign has me not wanting to watch the NBA. The fact that the men, who are probably aware of what bullshit it is still support, just because feminism is the in vogue thing to support really makes me feel sick. Thank god I've never bought a jersey or anything from this league.

I feel the same way but it's among all the big pro sports now including the NFL (look at their "rape & domestic violence" ad campaign + the whole pink bs or even the stupid Michael Sam "saga"). They are all corporations and have to toe the PC party line 24-7. I guess only until they are show the other side of things and/or start losing viewers it's just going to get worse.

I already try to scale back on my sports viewing but I can't miss certain NBA and NFL games and am a college sports fan too (where similar issues pervade). It's just hard to stop doing something I loved as a kid and through high school (and played the sports too).

Well - we know one team Golden State is going struggle against in a playoff series

32 straight regular season road losses in San Antonio

An Alamo reference would fit here, but I will resist

They did beat the Spurs in a road game in a playoff series in the 2013 playoffs. I still think the Warriors are the favorite to win it all. They were on a 11 game winning streak, have the conference locked up and you could tell their offensive passing wasn't there from the start. Spurs will be their toughest test but I think GSW can handle them.

RE: The NBA Thread
The Champs are back and they're hungry for more! The way they beautifully dominated and destroyed the best team of the regular season was a reminder of what they are capable of doing.

Kawahi is a beast, no 2 way around it. He single handdly took out of the game the leagues ''most unguardable guard' in a convincing way. He only needs to improve on his free throws and he'd be an MVP candidate. He's already the best defender in the league. The way he shut down Curry last night was a testament to his greatness. Offensively, he's getting the job consistently. He just needs to improve his FTs and he'd be an unstoppable monster!

Danny Green has matured and become a much more efficient and a better shooter. He has been raining 3s for fun lately.

What never ceases to amaze me is how Pop and the scouts always find new no name guys and bring them into the Spurs system and make them blossom and explode. Latest being this Joseph guy as a PG to give TP some much needed rest.

Manu is like wine, he gets better with age. His vision and technics are second to none. Some of the moves and passes he makes are Maradonesque!

If Manu is like wine then there's no words to describe Timmy. THE leader and boss of the team and greatest power forward of all time! He leaves me speechless for what he's still been achieving at his age! A true legend!

The Spurs are peaking at the right time. If it weren't for those 2 stupid losses against the Knicks and the Cavs, they'd be tied second with the Rockets.

Right now, teams in the West are more worried to face the Spurs in the playoffs than the Warriors and rightfully so. As much as they are fun to watch, GS are still a bit soft for the playoffs. If they can keep their core of players for the next 2-3 seasons then they'd be unstoppable.

Very much looking forward to the playoffs! It's going to be very tight and very exciting. However, I can't see past the Spurs this year too. They're just too good, too deep and too experienced.

Warriors-Spurs in the West final with the Spurs coming on top after an epic series in 6. Then time to face Brom Brom yet again in the final. And hand him his 3rd losses in the Finals by the Spurs! Wink

Remember when the Spurs drafted that kid Kyle Anderson and it was immediately praised as an amazing pick because it's The Spurs? Wonder if that kid will turn out to be any good. Obviously hasn't done anything yet but you can't judge rookies on good teams like that.

Anyone know much about the kid?

He's been dominating D-league. He lives up to name Slo-mo, quite possibly one of the slowest players I've ever seen in my life. He's shown glimpses in games and I can see him becoming a Boris Diaw 2.0 or Shaun Livingston type of player. It was unlikely that a draft pick was going to come onto a deep title contender/championship team and get minutes right away to begin with.

So the Thunder miss the playoffs and the Pelicans get in.

Just like I said would happen. Close though.

First round matchups look good.

Initial gut feeling picks...

Warriors over Pelicans
Dallas over Houston
Spurs over Clippers
Portland over Memphis (If Conley is out)

Hawks over Brooklyn
Cavs over Celtics
Bulls over Bucks
Wizards over Raptors
