Took me three days of being on the computer for 8+ hrs a day, but I may have finally found a 2 bedroom/2 bath near DC for under $1900 and a roommate with whom I went to college.

It´s summer, I can´t believe this thread is on the 7th page of the category.

Even though I spend the most of my precious time during weekends at work, it will change from New Year. Two months ago my dream didn´t become reality (temporarily), but second best option is happening and I am really glad for it. I only have to wait 5 months.

Even though I spend a lot of time at work, I have already been to one vacation and another two vacations I am planning to execute in two months, what is really cool. And beside going to 3 summer vacations, I have 4.5 times multiplied my crypto holdings.

Aloha!

Going by suicide rates, Kona has a point, since 40 states have higher rates then Hawaii.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in...ted_States

Still, New Jersey has the lowest rates of any state, so you are better off listening to some Springsteen.

Look at how happy he is trying to dance, with Courtney Cox onstage with him, like he doesn't have a care in the world.

You don't get joy this pure in Hawaii, that's for sure.

Now that is true positivity.

“That sig BTW is a very asinine anti-family anti-parent quote. You live in a country where 40% of children grow up without a biological father, yet somehow “the greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents”? Sorry but this is fruity Boomer nonsense.”

A rare-ish rendition of one of his classics -

"I want to get caught, but I never do".

The river...

So much for Springsteen.

They got to him in the end.

He betrayed the very thing he stood for. No greater shame has ever been known.

It was at this point I knew the game was over.

I played this song from memory, from the heart when my brother and I spent our last days alone. He had just bought me a Gibson Les Paul. A guitar I thought I'd never own. Even though I have dozens of the things.

My first ever guitar was a Les Paul copy - white with black binding.

My last ever guitar was a Les Paul - black, with no binding.

I didn't sing loud. The guitar was not plugged in.

It was more for myself than anyone else, as we shared the house alone, and he was tired and had gone to bed.

He came down and just said to me: "can you be quiet, I can hear you from upstairs".

And it was at that point that I knew everything was lost.

I'm a massive Springsteen fan. A collector even.

As a kid I loved reading science fiction (...truth be told I still do when I take the time).

As anyone really familiar with genre knows really good science fiction writers take science fact and extrapolate what the future might be.

But ultimately like all good story telling, regardless of the container, its the human condition and character arcs within it that compels the reader to feel something.

One of my all time favorites that I read when I was 13 -14 yo was ARMOR by John Steakley

Original cover art

Second edition cover art

[Image: 51mAfXRt5uL._SX297_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg]

Quote:The protagonist is Felix, an enlistee who's been given "scout" duty on an alien planet in the seemingly endless Antwar. Little is known of him initially but that he suffers from burnout and refuses to die, even when it seems inevitable. When entering into combat, a persona he calls the "Engine" takes over.

The Engine makes him into a ruthless killing machine dedicated to keeping him alive at all costs.

The novel starts with Felix and his company assaulting an inhospitable planet aptly named "Banshee." Using armored infantry suits, soldiers drop onto the planet from starships via a teleportation device called "Transit." The attack goes horribly wrong, as Felix's company is completely wiped out, and the mountain fort they were originally supposed to capture is revealed to be a giant hive. In the aftermath of his first encounter, Felix regroups with the surviving humans. There, he meets another highly skilled scout named Forest, who participated in the fleet-wide Armored Olympics against decorated soldier Nathan Kent. It is also revealed that the Ants can lock onto the fleet's Transit beacons and barrage them with missiles fired from the Hive, making retreat impossible.

During a fallback to an elevated bluff, a dying soldier keys all functions on the suit and blows up the nuclear powered suit. Several warriors are killed in the disaster, including Forest. Before dying she confesses to Felix that she always loved Kent. With no options left the warriors resort to attacking the Hive to secure transport back to the ship. Exploiting the Hive's tunnel system, they plan to use a wounded soldier as a bomb to destroy it. Before the attack, Felix meets a soldier named Bolov who tells him that as a scout on his first drop, Felix has a 10% chance of survival.

Felix and his fellow soldiers are ambushed by ants on their way up the hive. During the attack, the soldier they planned on using as a bomb is killed, rendering him useless. In a stroke of bad luck, Bolov is also mortally wounded, grudgingly accepts the task of sacrificing himself and is thrown in the Hive by Felix. The Hive is then destroyed and the survivors are able to retreat back to the ship.

So...What does this have to do with positivism? Glad you asked

The thing that stuck with me when I read the book the first time and since was the concept of "The Engine".

Felix believes he's going to die. In fact he knows it. But in the heat of battle as the instant he is fighting he looks at each "ant" and when The Engine takes over it says

"No not you motherfucker... You wont be the one that kills me"

He refuses to let that thing in front of him kill him so he kills it instead.

This process repeats...over and over...until everything that was an immediate danger is eliminated. He may have killed 10, or 20 or more by the time its over...but he didn't start out having a plan to kill any more than the one front of him right now

So I as a teenager I adopted my own version of The Engine and have been using it ever since. In business, as well as in daily life I use The Engine to kill / do / complete that one thing that I most urgently need to do.

I have found it an incredibly powerful tool to pare down big tasks (like building a business or achieving a personal goal) and not be overwhelmed with complete of picture of the challenge ahead.

Whatever gets in the way (including myself sometimes) of what I really desire I click on "The Engine" and say

"No not you motherfucker... You wont be the one that kills/stops me"

I highly recommend finding your own Engine and point it at whetever you want to do in your life

Happy Saturday !

RE: Positivity / Good News Only Lounge
Last week my girl and I came to her parents summer cottage which is in a little town in western Bohemia near the Bavarian border. For those that dont know very common for Europeans in general to have what they call a "summer house". This usually amounts to little more than a rustic cabin or even a shack. Theirs is a pretty nice home in a tiny village that looks sort of like this. Its been in her father's family for several generations

On Sunday we walked down the road into the adjacent forest to look for mushrooms. This time of year when fall weather kicks in is prime mushroom season and mushrooming apparently a very traditional thing.

[Image: prales2.jpg.aspx?ext=.jpg&maxsid...amp;crop=1]

So off we went. She was all excited about taking me and showing me the forest where she and and her mom have collected shrooms since she was a little girl. I enjoyed seeing her get all excited about doing something so low key and down to earth. It was an enjoyable day.

Not only that but we hit a mother load of mushrooms. At least as many as in this pic. There were probably 7-8 different varieties (all confirmed as safe to eat by her parents when we dropped some off to them)

So the last few days Ive been feasting on mushroom omelets, sauteed mushrooms, shrimp and mushrooms...you name it. And she even made some fresh mushroom soup.

We're back in Prague now and last night as I was browsing for something to watch on Netflix while she cooked I came across a BBC documentary about...what else?...mushrooms

[Image: 0d844c2f6de3e158baf8dedb8c91d13caf139b0f.jpg]

I enjoy good documentaries but Im not sure if I would have selected this to watch if it wasnt for the recency of my edible mushroom experience. But Im glad we watched it. It was pretty informative, entertaining and comprehensive look into the world of all fungi (not just mushrooms). It sounds like a nerd's dream but I highly recommend it.

Then at 31:00 it gets really interesting. It tells the story about two entrepreneurs
Eben Bayer and Gavin McIntyre who are using fungi to solve a problem and get wealthy while doing it:

Quote:Their invention has its origins in Bayer’s childhood on his family’s farm in Vermont, where he noticed that fungi had glued together piles of wood chips. They realised that the strand-like root structures of fungi found under the soil, called mycelia, are capable of binding together with waste, such as corn husks, rice or hemp. Bayer and McIntyre took this idea and produced a material made from mycelium. The mycelium is fed agricultural waste at room temperature and harvested every four to six days. The result is a non-toxic substance that can be moulded into any shape required. It is then dried and baked to solidify it, preventing the growth of mushrooms.

So long story short they started a company Ecovative Design that uses a completely natural and biodegradable fungi (mycelium) to replace Styrofoam in packing materials

[Image: Ecovatives-Mushroom--Pack-010.jpg?width=...5e667b9163]

They are American finalists for for the European Inventor of The Year Award

https://www.epo.org/learning-events/euro...bayer.html

Using fungi to solve a real world long term problem

Clap

That's very American and very positive.

Happy Wednesday!

At work, a customer just straight up asked my name, told me that I am built and tall.
She wasn't the most pretty girl on Earth, but would have banged.
She straight up told me, "You are beautiful" and looked into my eyes. She went outside and came back, her eyes glued to me. Had a little chit chat with her, but could not pursue as my supervisor was nearby.

Felt great..girls opening guys rarely happens

Same story.
Yesterday evening I am at hostel at Kyiv, few hours after my arrival. I am sitting in a couch with my mobile in hands and thinking what to do at evening. Suddelly theres Ukrainian girl telling her friend " come look at this beautiful guy". Well she didn't know, that I was learning russian for 7 years, so I catched their chat, looked at them and they started to laugh and ran away.
A while later, we are hanging out at night Kyiv and having wonderful time. I don't remember when I met so cheerful girl last time.
Now I am enjoying vareniky, local beer and in a while I have meeting with another local girl from Tinder. My Tinder my literally burning and I already stopped opening it, because I can't handle it right now.
Tomorrow I am going to Chernobyl and I heard it's amazing trip.

Congratulations. That's a big achievement.

Well from now on I'm calling you a doctor, doctor.

Aloha!

Kona has returned to the positivity thread.

The circle of life is now complete.

“That sig BTW is a very asinine anti-family anti-parent quote. You live in a country where 40% of children grow up without a biological father, yet somehow “the greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents”? Sorry but this is fruity Boomer nonsense.”

RE: Positivity / Good News Only Lounge
My mom just made some food for me as I moved back to the city from some small town.
She did this last week too. I am living 20 minutes from downtown and 20minutes from my mom's house.

I gave her $100 in cash for her generosity. I am feeling pretty content.
