Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
This guy has a 15/16 year old daughter who just goes way out of line behaving like a spoiled bitch. She posts her grievances on facebook for the world to see...but dad finds out about it. Some harsh disciplining ensues. This is 8 minutes long, but an absolute must watch.

We can learn from this. This guy brooks no disrespect from spoiled bitches (the kind we're all so used to dealing with). He isn't putting up with ANY bullshit from ANY woman, even his own little girl. I want to shake his hand.

Now that's how you discipline a spoiled princess brat!!

I don't want to just shake the guys hand, I want to take picture with him and carry it around my iPhone as if he were a movie star!

That video was posted 3 days ago, and it went viral with almost 1.8 million views! lol!

That's how a real man raises his kids. I wouldn't even call it "harsh" discipline.

For those of you who don't feel like watching the whole thing, the last minute and a half is where the action is. Good shit.

Love the line where he says that she has to pay him back for the ammunition too. Hahah.

I agree. You have to be stern with your daughter. My daughter...and I can see it now that she is gonna be looker...gets a lot of compliments. Well this leads to a feeling of entitlement and that won't last in life because even guys will leave you alone if you are too much of a headache....regardless of your looks.

I have to be extra stern to make up for all the "passes" that family and others give her.

The guy seems like a reasonable man just asking for a bit of respect.

He's trying to teach his kids to be self-sufficient and not spoiled little brats.

I take my hat off to him.

Good video, but I think I would have just sold the laptop. Could have recouped some of the money spent on software.

RE: Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
I am going to be the devils advocate and say that this wasn't the best idea.

No matter how much of a bitch his daughter is, no one deserves to have their life tossed into the media like this. I hope this leads to people realizing that anything you post on the internet can go viral and it doesn't lead to online shaming by parents to teach their kids a lesson.

There was a case not too long ago where a young black kids uncle found facebook posts about the kid acting gangster and pretending to be gang banging. The uncle posted a video on youtube of him confronting the kid and hitting with a belt that went viral. A year or so later the kid was gunned down in front of his house and the people around him said the humiliation from the video led to him trying harder to be accepted into the gang lifestyle.

Bottom line, discipline= good, shaming on the internet= bad

RE: Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
canuck, I understand what you're saying, but I think his intention was to discipline/call her out in the same medium she disrespected him so it will be that much more real to her. If he said this to her in person she would just make another facebook post, but taking away her power by dominating her only platform of rebellion is in my mind a pretty effective tactic to make her be less of a bitch. That being said, the gun was a bit much as some people (crazy feminists) might interpret it as him taking out his anger on an object which is made to represent his daugher. In my opinion the shooting was good in that he didnt have much anger/resentment in his voice. He used the destruction of her laptop to show his dominance over her, it shows he has the power to make her life hell and take away what he has given her, but wont if she grows up and shows some respect for the man who gave her life.

I think your example does prove a point, but does not really apply because the girl is attention whoring its not like shes going to become even more of an attention whore because of this (well unless shes like the girl from shameless)

I can't say I disagree with the sentiment but frankly I get the impression this is the kind of overly strict parent whose kids will go completely nuts once they're off the leash. I remember back when I was a kid it was the kids who were always grounded who were constantly getting into trouble.

One of my former high school teachers said that this is why kids in America go crazy over alcohol versus, say, a German kid who's been drinking at a younger age. I remember him commenting on the strict Puritanical values in America versus that more laid-back healthier and responsible approach in Europe, and how it's the repressed kids that go crazy and berserk versus the kid who learned that alchol and sex are no big deal.

Alcohol? No big deal.

Sex? No big deal.

Just teach your kids to be mature and responsible.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he said that kids in Europe don't make a big deal about sex and alcohol as American kids do. Maybe not as much, but enough to note a difference between European and American kids. Anyone notice this?

Americans raise their kids by saying, "Just don't do it," when, in actuality, it has the opposite effect in making them want it more. You want what you can't have.

This is one of the reasons why British/American/Anglosphere women have the reputations as the world's sluttiest women, as opposed to, say, French, Spanish, Italian, or Greek. The repression of sex by the America's Puritanical heritage has a part in this.

Those kinds of kids make great college whores. I think the guy could have been more clear about his position. It seems to me that he is trying to make his kid self-sufficient. So many people I've lived with at university are pretty useless when it comes to living by themselves. Last year a guy didn't know which food was his because his mom bought it. He ended up eating half my food one weekend when I was away. Another person couldn't comprehend doing laundry or cleaning their own room. They actually asked the people who cleaned the commons areas to clean their rooms for a few extra dollars. On the other hand my best roommates grew up in farm areas or had some form of daily chores. They would clean up atfer themselves and not expect everything to be done for them by some magic fairy.

This can also serve as an early lesson with regards to be responsible for what you put out in a public forum. Adults get fired for ripping their co-workers and bosses online. We see public people in all walks suffer reprecussions for statements and comments they make on Twitter and other online forums. Everyone needs to think before regurgitating their every thought onto public forums.

I completely understand where this man is coming from. It's the level of disrespect for her parents, and probably ALL adults that was so astounding. This kid wants for nothing, yet feels she should get paid CASH MONEY on top of being supported by her parents. The supposed chores she does? I did far more than that when I was younger than her, and it wasn't a big deal. He needed to do something drastic. He drops $130 to upgrade the computer she uses to rip him? Fuck that.

That's just it...he doesn't seem OVERLY strict. He gives his kid some responsibilities around the house, yet she also has all the toys and gadgets she wants. It's going to be strict NOW, because she fucked up. When you punish a kid, you have to take away the things they value. "Go to your room" isn't enough anymore, because they have a computer, tv, cellphone, music, videogames etc. in their room. You have to send them to their room, but remove all the toys.

You're right with regards to the openness with which Europeans treat sex and sexuality. It isn't treated like it's dirty or something that should be hidden, and the body isn't something to be ashamed of. Wine is had with meals, and I'm sure teens are free to have some. Parents here that allow their children to drink in their own homes are seen as poor parents.

Ah, yes, now I remember. That's exactly what he said, that kids around 13, 14, 15, or whenever the parents feel appropriate were allowed to have half a glass of wine or something similar. Granted, not enough to be binge drinking or enough to get drunk and harm one's health, but enough to show their kids that alcohol is no big deal, that drinking alcohol doesn't make you anymore of an adult, and that adults aren't secretly conspiring so that kids can't have any fun (alcohol).

RE: Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
I agree with this guy 1,000% in principle, but have several points. I know I'm going against the grain here, so I know I'm sure to get some push-back, but:

1. There's a reason his daughter has gotten this cunty in the first place. I have a nagging suspicion that he's putting the smack down on his kids like this, but not on his wife. I bet the wife is the enabler. Discipline starts at the top.

2. This daughter is going to be a slutty-ass whore, if she isn't already. This is the kind of girl that we are all looking for (SNL-wise): daddy issues, trying to prove a point, and "rebellious." This kind of massively public alienation only helps our case more.

3. It sounds like this guy might be a little too strict, frankly. I'm all about making your kids do shit around the house and putting the smack down when they fuck up, but this guy is grounding a girl for three whole months for writing some silly bullshit on the Internet, and then putting bullets through her computer on a second offense. Both of those seem like draconian-ass punishments. A red flag goes up when I see a guy flashing guns this much. They're all over his facebook and, of course, this video.

4. There's a old saying that I'll paraphrase (poorly I'm sure) that goes something like: the best way to hold sand is with an open hand, not a tight grip. When you grip too tight, it all just slips through your fingers. I'm afraid this guy is grabbing with the kung-fu grip. This girl will go off to college and fuck every dude in sight. Maybe she'll get pregnant young or just be the town bike. At the first opening she gets, she'll do drugs and drink like fish. All of this will be in defiance of this authority. She'll also suck mad dick if it means getting a replacement computer or an iPod.

5. This is a permanent rift in their relationship. This girl will never forgive her father for this (very) public humiliation. Sure, it's fun to watch from this vantage point and, as grown men, we know how meaningless a stupid Internet video is, but this daughter will fucking carry this shit with her for life. This guy wins the war, but at what expense? Pick your battles, man. I'm afraid this guy's pride is what he's mostly trying to defend. He doesn't want some teenagers on the Internet hearing bullshit said about him. He's a weak man, a bully--quite frankly--with guns.

Good in principle. Bad in practice, in my opinion. The best parenting I've ever seen was stern as fuck, but also forgiving. Kids are weak, you can own their-asses without stooping to this level.

RE: Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
I agree with Tuthmosis about the way the guy handled this. I know I was spoiled rotten growing up but I could hardly believe my ears when I heard about the chores that girl had to do every day. SHIT! If you think she is over exaggerating these chores just listen again, she is waking up at 5 am every morning to balance school and chores. I used to wake up 5 every morning too and that was to balance 6-7 hours a day of training sports and 8 hours a day of school. It was the most brutal and difficult time of my life and I had a LOT of support from my friends and family. This girl is forced into this lifestyle which I personally wouldnt have been able to handle if I was forced into it.

I think her parents only give her 2 options: slave away on chores OR get a job to pay us rent. I doubt her rent would have come cheap, esp if shes always grounded anyway. She cant help but get fucked up in the head when she sees how good her friends have it.

I dont think this girl will be the town bike or do drugs, I think she will run away from home (no matter what age she is) and be forced to LIVE on drugs and prostitution, and will still think its better than going home.

Where is the mother in all this?

This 100%. Also notice how he's having a hard time holding his breath, he seems on edge. Very much on edge.

I'm sure he's a loving parent in many ways, and I am for disciplining brats. But you could hear the adrenaline pumping in his veins, he was that agitated.

The smart thing for him to do would've been to wait a day at least and let the chemicals in his brain subside. He's all emotion. I did not get the sense of a man in full control of himself. I actually see this often with a certain type of American parent.

Otherwise, I'm all on his side...

A year from now you'll wish you started today

You hit the nail on the head. He seems more fixated on defending his honor as a Southern gentleman, while transparently trying to claim the issue is about self-sufficiency. If he was really focused on teaching his daughter a lesson about taking him for granted, he wouldn't have bought her all the stuff he's destroying now. Plus shooting the computer is just stupid. If he's such an IT genius as he claims, he could easily wipe the HD and sell the computer on eBay to compensate himself for the $130 he was ranting about having spent on her.

He mentioned in the video that his wife supported the maneuver, and that one of the bullets was for her.

Quote:2. This daughter is going to be a slutty-ass whore, if she isn't already. This is the kind of girl that we are all looking for (SNL-wise): daddy issues, trying to prove a point, and "rebellious." This kind of massively public alienation only helps our case more.

No guarantee of this, but here's my take:

If you live in a society where you can't seriously discipline your child without risking this, then you have problems.
I was a pretty spoiled kid, but I have relatives who've dealt with very harsh discipline, roughly on this level in severity (and often much more physically painful).
There is absolutely no guarantee that it will create whores and miscreants. In fact, I think such an outcome is only even somewhat possible when said child is living in a society where they are surrounded by others extremely spoiled kids with zero discipline, and they feel "left out".
That's a bigger issue.

Quote:3. It sounds like this guy might be a little too strict, frankly. I'm all about making your kids do shit around the house and putting the smack down when they fuck up, but this guy is grounding a girl for three whole months for writing some silly bullshit on the Internet, and then putting bullets through her computer on a second offense. I wouldn't call that silly bullshit. She basically just publicly humiliated her own family.
My relatives would flip in quite a similar manner (minus the gun, I guess-we don't own any).

Again, strict discipline at home does not guarantee this outcome at all.

What would you have done?

I don't buy that. The best way to show that you canot be taken for granted is not to avoid giving at all-it is to give, but show that said giving can be taken away if certain conditions are not met.

You're viewing this as a business transaction, which is missing the point. The goal is to send a very clear message, not to save money.

Your idea sounds nice, but it doesn't convey the message as clearly of effectively as this does. He could give a fuck about what the computer costs-its about her learning a lesson, and this is the most impactful way to make that happen.

RE: Facebook Parenting for the Troubled Teen
I agree with this guy in principle and practice.

He alludes to several prior offenses. The letter vs what he shows she is making up most of her "hardship".

Structure is good for children and people. If she's waking up at 5am it's because she's a girl getting ready for school. All girls I knew in HS did that.

Cleaning the counter and sweeping the floor is too much of a hardship? Give me a fucking break. I had to load fucking firewood in the morning and in the evening before I could go out and play when I was a kid.

The gun thing is no big deal. A lot of you city kids are in shock but a lot of Americans enjoy shooting and hunting. If he collects them it's nothing more than a hobby and he can do that if he wishes.

The guys whole family was disrespected on the internet, he did the equivalent reciprocation and made a statement.

It's his laptop, he decided the cost of destroying it in that fashion was worth it to him to make his point.

He is the father, he can parent the way he sees fit.

There is no doubt that shes going to be a little whore, but she will respect her father. With the ghetto ass way she was speaking, it's no wonder why he was so fed up.

That's fine. But listen to him talk... he can barely control his anger. I certainly get the feeling he's got too much adrenaline right there and he shouldve waited a few days so he wouldve come across more calm and collected

Probably. He did just spend 6 hours upgrading her laptop that she used to bash him.
