RE: Aruba - Any one have any experience?
About three years ago...

Beautiful beach but no waves. I stayed at a Hyatt with a casino.

I know a couple of guys from Oahu that are big into wind/kite surfing that just came back from there. I'll ask more when I see them.

If you are a diver ask around and find the shipwrecks. There's a cool one there I just don't remember its name.

I actually think I brought my own girl. But they were everywhere. I usually wind up swooping tourists on islands like that so can't report much on the locals. Whatever the main city is (Orjanstaad?) its a party town.

Aloha!

Kona,

Thanks for the data report.

Food?

"Are the girls mostly black or white?"

Most were Venezuelan looking. Lots of French and Dutch tourists. All of the workers were black. The pro's all were black.

"Food"

My friend who just came back is a chef. I'll see him at the bar one of these days soon.

I fished there, I recall it being a hot mahi and wahoo spot. The reef is huge, so I bet there some decent lobster/crab going around.

Lots of French restaurants.

Hey did they ever find that white girl from Minnesota that disappeared out there a few years ago?

Aloha!

RE: Aruba - Any one have any experience?
Have not been there but went to it's sister island, Curaçao, earlier this year. Made the following notes :

1. Bars full of Dutch tourists and nobody else.

2. Dutch girls have the worst combination of physical ugliness, unfriendliness and high bitch shields that I have ever seen in my entire life. They are kinda potato shaped and act like they are 9s bizarrely enough. Did not see one do-able girl in my time hitting the bars there.

3. Local girls not hot AT ALL. So day game is out.

4. Hookers are ALL Colombian.

The only other mental note I made is to never go back to Curaçao again.

1. Ugly cities.

2. Nightlife sucks.

3. Political situation.

4. La ley seca. (The last 4 weekends I spent in Venezuela, la ley seca was in operation which means no sale of booze in any form from Friday to Sunday). No bars, no clubs, no booze sold in stores - NOTHING.

5. Currency. Their currency (the Bolivar) is artificially pegged at a ridiculous rate against the dollar which means you have to take enough US dollars with you (i.e. thousands of dollars per month you are there) and exchange them on the black market. If you don't do that and use the offical bank rate, you end up paying a 100% markup on everything from hotels to food to transport - EVERYTHING.

6. Unless you have Venezuelan friends / contacts you are not going to meet the hot girls because the nightlife is pretty non-existent. I spent a month there traveling the whole country. I speak Spanish and have Venezuelan friends and I would only be able to recommend 2 or 3 bars to you in the ENTIRE country that I thought were any good.

7. Corrupt police. In the whole of south america Venezuela is the only place were I had a problem with corrupt police hassling tourists. I got stop searched outside my hotel in Caracas and the police planted drugs in my wallet as part of their "search", threatened to beat me up, threatened me with prison and wanted a bribe. I talked my way out of it in Spanish, used the press card they found in my wallet (I am a freelance journalist and I politely hinted that I would write about the experience after which they became much less aggressive to me) and got my Venezuelan friend on the phone who has contacts high up in the Venezuelan army to talk to them. Only then did they let me go. I did not pay them shit but it took a good 45 minute conversation in Spanish (they did not speak English).

In short, it's not worth the hassle. I have been to Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru so far on this trip around south america and Venezeula is the only country I did not pick up and f-close a local girl.

Yeah. I have been 5 or 6 times. Was not impressed by the local girls. Guess we have different tastes.

Wow. You just really steered me away from Venezuela.

Especially La ley seca.

Corrupt police suck. But having spent tons of time in Norte Baja, I am super used to it. But come to think of it, I rarely go to Norte Baja anymore.

Theres a poker tournament October 3rd through the 10th this year, I went two years ago. I went to the clubs a couple of nights and the girls were pretty hot. A poker buddy of mine bet me 50bucks to go up to the hottest girl in the club and dance with her and so I went and she danced with me for a bit which was surprising. Girls are pretty receptive in general and you have a nice variety of ethnic backgrounds. The hookers are suppose to be the safest in the world, they do 3-6 months shifts coming in from Columbia and Ecuador and they're tested and its all very professional.

I agree. I don't know what the other guy was saying about Dutch girls, I think they're pretty hot from what I've witnessed.

Add in one of the worse crime rates in Latin America. Situation is so bad I think you now have Venezuelans fleeing into Columbia. Nothing I ever hear about Venezuela makes me want to go there. Venezuelan women ARE hot though.

Yeah the only two pluses are the women (the only 10 I saw on this trip was in Venezuela and we are still in touch) and the national parks are beautiful. Especially Los Roques (group of islands north of Caracas - largest marine archipeligo in the world) and Angel falls.

Merida in western Venezuela is a nice chill college type town in the mountains and it has decent nightlife and cute girls. If you are in Eastern Colombia its worth a trip across the border to chill there for a while.

Best bar in town is called Biroska. Good rock music, good crowd most nights, open until late.

RE: Aruba - Any one have any experience?
Hey G,

I fished with my man that was in Aruba last week. First off he says there's waves?

He went to a culinary institute and is currently in charge of banquet catering at a world class resort out my way. He knows his food.

He says lobster are in season and far cheaper than they are here in Haleiwa.

He recommends a place called Chalet Swiss. I don't know if you are big on limpet (we call em opihi) But he said theirs were on the level with ours.

Another good one apparently is called the Flying Fish. One of the chefs there is a former Roy's employee. I believe I read a Roy's review on http://thegmanifesto.com. He had a salsa creollo there. Didn't remember the fish, but said it would have been some of the best had kajiki been used.

Aloha!

I have a close friend who recently spent a month in Aruba from December 2012 until January, I just wrote him a message on facebook saying that I have "a friend" who needs some intel on Aruba. Is this allowed on the RVF, second hand info from a non-member? I will just copy and past whatever he writes.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Sure. Intel is intel. You can usually tell based on how someone presents their thoughts and what they discuss how credible the information may be.

My friend just got back to me and this is his message cut and pasted from facebook:

"Tell him to book at "2 fools and a bull"right away. Best diner I ever had. Get him to go to visitaruba.com/plus and get the discount card. He will need to rent a car and that will save him 10% at budget .

He should also rent a jeep for 3 days to explore the other side of the island. Off roading. Tell him to take it the natural pool. The car rental place will warn him not to. Eagle beach is nicer then palm beach. Palm beach is the most expensive and biggest tourist trap I have ever been to. I liked baby beach it is on the other side of the island it was my favourite beach by far.

U need change to use the washroom and there is only one restrauant there. Visit Charles bar on the way to baby beach it is in San Nicholas. There is a great Arabian restaurant in sanveta called zee rover. They serve fresh fish caught that day."

He went there with his fiancee so wasn't doing any gaming, hope this intel helps.
