Hair Product Thread
I love using hair products. I have about 3 inch hair that's pretty naturally curly. I usually use a flat iron to straighten it then style it. Sometimes I wet it and put product in to take & control the curls.

I'm very sensitive to fragrances so if a product is heavily fragranced I cannot wear it or I will get rashes and shit.

Hair products are kind of an obsession tho and I like to try them out all the time.

These are my faves:

Best Overall
Bumble & Bumble SumoTech
[Image: 41EQJZKJWWL._SL500_AA300_.jpg]
pros: great control, lasts about 12 hrs, great texture. One of the only ones I keep coming back to.
cons: expensive ($25 for small jar)

Best Cheap Ones
These are on sale at Walgreens/RiteAid/CVS all the time and provide great value for money

LOreal Hair Putty
[Image: 31jM%2B4lT3LL._SL500_AA300_.jpg]
Pro: good hold, not too strong a smell, cheap, robust
Cons: dries quickly so you gotta style fast, can make hair wiry so best if stacked with another product. smells not so great but smell dissipates in 30 minutes

FX Molding Wax
[Image: 31qyfpJU0dL._SL500_AA300_.jpg]
Pro: good hold, moldable wax
Cons: works better stacked with another. smells not so great but smell dissipates in 20 minutes

I actually recently bought the loreal hair putty. What products do you recommend using it with? So far I just wet my hair a bit and then put it on, but as you said it just wires the hair. I want to get my hair to look kind of like dave duchovny's from californication. However I am having a hard time making my hair look dry and "just woke up" look without getting it all wiry and wet look. Tips?

2nd on sumotech. Used to date a hair dresser so she gave it to me for free, now I'm hooked.

RE: Hair Product Thread
I shave my head now, its cheaper and easier and most everyone agrees I look better BUT when I did have hair long enough to style I was a huge fan of pomade. I have really REALLY thick and wavy hair, so even the strongest gels and mousses didn't do a damn thing, but some pomade or wax, yeah buddy.

I wish I could remember the brand I used. I could put it in at 7pm it'd go all night, I'd fall asleep with it in and could wake up, brush my teeth and run my hands back through my hair and get it all in order again for the next day. The stuff was beastly lol.

Yeah, it's a little stringy on its own. If you stack it with anything else it works pretty nicely tho - I've stacked it with the sumotech for extra hold and also the FX molding wax.

for something like

i'd recommend a stack of SumoTech with Got2B Chaotic Fiber Gum, you definitely need to straighten it if u have wavy hair too.

Back when I was in high school I used this
[Image: 02_23_10_PaulyDmain.jpg]

My hair was damn near water proof with that stuff.

But now I use this [Image: axe_messylook.jpg]

It's only $7 and it works well on my short hair.

RE: Hair Product Thread
ok Im going to try and see if I can be somewhat useful here.

I have preppy style medium length hair and I have to keep product in it so it can be controlled somewhat.

I got a good tip from a stylist (and this is for dudes with longer hair) to:
1. Wash your hair normally with whatever is your routine, or don't wash your hair or just condition it, but always rinse with COLD water, or COOL water.
2. Mix products. For example start out with a medium to heavy pomade, then finish with a bit of gel to get a variance in texture.

bumble and bumble is great, albeit a little pricey. In that same range I really like John Masters. Shit's expensive but it's all natural and the fragrances of his products usually drive girls wild.

I use this stuff at the recommendation of friends. I have medium-long curly hair. My hair is extremely difficult to manage. This Japanese hair wax does a nice job at keeping it under control. $11 for a jar
