RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious
Been a while since I’ve posted so here’s an update.

Last year was pretty easy when it came to porn. I had a serious girlfriend and was getting laid consistently so there was minimal temptation.

Fast forward to beginning of 2019. We break up and I have my “coming to God” moment. Now I have no girlfriend and no interest in chasing strange tail. I unfortunately fell back into the habit of regular porn and masturbation.

I didn’t think it was a big issue because it was better than the alternative (pumping and dumping random girls). I still recognized that porn is incredibly unhealthy, but I thought it was impossible to live without the release of orgasm. That’s what we’ve been told all our life, right?

That all changed when I went to Roosh’s live talk. He didn’t even say anything specific to porn, but it was extremely inspiring to see the “world champion of fornication” step away and completely swear off casual sex and masturbation. It showed me that if Roosh can do it, anyone can, and I started taking this much more seriously.

I’m nowhere near perfection but I’ve made leaps and bounds over the past few months. I’ve been working hard on channeling my sexual energy into prayer, study, work, and the gym. I know that overcoming lust is possible, but only through God.

I have started using a journal to help fight this porn habit.

I list the environment, the emotions I’m feeling, and how I plan to correct it next time. Also in an accountability group the past 6 months. This habit can’t continue into 2020. Best of luck guys.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious
I'm finding Jiggy Brief's Guide very helpful, especially the points he makes about stopping yourself from checking women out all the time and catching yourself fantasizing about them. Basically, outside of porn it goes: checking women out > fantasizing > wanting to fap. So +1 for that advice.

What I've also noticed is how fitness, diet, and no fap seem to all go together.
To be clear, I'm neither fapping nor having sex at the moment so I'm experiencing zero sexual release. The spunk that is in my balls now is the same spunk that has been there since day 1.
The longer I go without a release, the more momentum I build, and with Jiggy's advice it's become easier. Do I like women and desire them sexually? Of course.
But feeling like I need a release in order to feel normal became a huge problem for me and I wanted to experience something else for a change.

I'm on day 24 now and with the momentum I've built, I find it far easier to get my ass to the gym more consistently along with a heightened sense of discipline to stick to my diet... which has always been the most difficult part for me. In short, semen retention is allowing me to hit my fitness goals.

Great stuff from Barron.

Two takeaways I'd like to expand on:

#1 - Porn addiction is a symptom of greater problems

Anyone who's been deep down the porn rabbit hole knows that it can be used as a drug. When you're stressed out, you open up PornHub to numb out. Maybe you're angry at your gf, so you want some sexual release to cool you off.

This makes you realize that fighting porn and masturbation is less about resisting temptation and more about fixing your life.

Maybe your job is exhausting, which leads you to porn. Get a better job.
Maybe your girlfriend is of this world, and doesn't support you. Find a better gf.
Maybe your relationship with God is lacking. Pray more.

Fixing external aspects of your life can be one of the best ways to master the NoFap lifestyle.

#2 - Little victories matter

Yes, it's great to be able to go weeks without masturbating. But, this challenge is much more manageable when you break it down into bite sized pieces. Temptation lurks in every corner, and if you start to win the little battles, these wins will snowball into larger victories.

You can start today but deleting Instagram, ignoring gym thots, and refusing to check out that girl you saw at the store. These wins add up and will ultimately help you master yourself for good.

Adding Mikeyd03's post as well:

I've been at this challenge (on and off) for almost 8 years now. I can confidently pinpoint where, when, and why I often fall into masturbation. It looks something like this:

-Not praying regularly
-Start oogling at girls IRL more often
-Then, everything culminates when I'm stressed out and lonely, usually on the weekend.

Now that I've identified the root cause, the goal is to fix these areas by:

-Praying regularly (morning Rosary sessions have been a huge aid)
-Mastering my gaze, and refusing to drool over gym bunnies
-Minimize stress by sleeping more, staying organized, and scheduling "me time" (long walks, outdoor activities, even a massage)
-Plan social activities so I don't feel lonely and I'm not stuck at the apartment by myself

I highly recommend everyone follow this exercise as well.

I'm at the point now where I'm unresponsive to porn. The idea of me fapping seems weird to me.
But, admittedly, I was forced into nofap because my penis was becoming numb and I struggled finding real women attractive.

I definitely fapped a couple of days in a row in January and fapped exactly once in July.

The same thing happened to me but I still ended up relapsing after 7 months, somehow.

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious
Day 1. I’ve fell into a big downward spiral and I almost feel helpless. 2 months ago I used to fap once a week, was always keeping busy and social. Now I’ve done it sometimes 3 times a day. I have 0 social life as I’m busy with school and work, go gym sometimes.

I think the cause of it is that I have nothing else to get dopamine from, no friends, lonileness in my dorm so I think that’s what it is. Luckily I’m on my purpose hitting the gym, studying and making money, but falling has killed my gains and overall vibe. I wanna have that glow again so from now it’s day 1

RE: NoPorn / NoFap Google Group - For Those Who're Serious
Good week.

I have found that there are few scenarios that consistently lead me to cave:

1. I am alone.

2. I am bored/tired/sad

3. I have just browsed social media and seen hot women.

The source of this habit is always my smartphone.

If I conquer my smartphone I can conquer porn. Changed my phone to grayscale and have deleted social media.

“I am not the type of man that watches porn.” Has been my mantra this week.

This habit will wreck you. Stop now.

Day 1 here. Bugger. Was a long streak, several months.

Sleep is my biggest difficulty. I've lost a lot of sleep where I used to have a natural sleeping pill so to speak. I'm looking into really putting a routine in place for evening.

Morning is a problem too, I'm foggy and wake up in a state.

Easy recipe for sleeping well:

1. Weightlifting
2. Limit caffeine
3. Bright light therapy
4. Busy days (never be idle)

Along with the light therapy lines, it's very helpful to avoid blue/white lights late in the evening. Get a red, amber or orange lampshade in your living room/bedroom and turn off the other lights after 10pm, kind of like the Mac and cellphone programs that turn your screens gradually more amber.

Avoid computer time late at night, or at least use a big screen and surf from your couch, with lower brightness setting on your TV and amber/orange lighting in your room.

If a girl posts hundreds of photos of herself in a bikini on Instagram, is that considered porn? I'm not thinking about this in terms on No Fap, but just wondering what is the line between porn and not porn.

I don’t think it’s porn in the strict sense, but it can certainly take you down the rabbit hole.

FWIW, the girls doing that are flesh peddling to your desire to fap. At the end of the day, most of the negatives associated with porn are present with IG thots, just a bit watered down. I’d suggest a better use of your time.

Have started listening to classical music.

Toning down the rap per its obsession with sex.

It’s easy to see how we are being conditioned to the enslavement of our lizard brains:

-Instagram
-Pornography
-Sex obsessed music
-Dress (even for young girls skin tight yoga pants are the norm)

It’s a fight between the lizard brain (pleasure) and the human brain (rationality).

20 years from now we will all thank ourselves for purging porn from our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving

Always a fun question. Instead of asking "is xyz porn?" ask yourself, "what's the outcome of xyz?"

Whether it's IG thots, swipe apps, or even glancing at women in yoga pants, all of these are not "PORN" per se, but they do lead you down the rabbit hole. They give you that initial hit of dopamine that get you craving more. They send you back down the path to full-on relapse. Most importantly, they distance you from God.

The other day my priest described sin as "anything that distances you from God." Thinking about things in that frame of reference has really helped me. Does lusting after women on Instagram bring you closer or farther from God? Easy answer.

I appreciate the efforts of those trying to break any porn addiction. But from a medical point of view, you should clean the pipes at least once every 3 days for good prostate health. Just saying.

You can quit porn and still fap...

The conflation of nofap/noporn never ceases to give me headaches. It bothers me how many people that quitting fapping is the goal, while quitting porn is the prerequisite. Quitting porn is the goal; quitting fapping is optional.

Also, I'm really skeptical of the studies that say that. AFAIK no other mammals have been found to masturbate (to orgasm, that is), why would humans evolve to need to do it as a necessity for prostate health?
