Punta Del Este / Montevideo, Uruguay
Just got into Punta this morning. I will be here for the weekend before heading to Montevideo for a few days and then taking a ferry to Buenos Aires.

Any suggestions for Punta / Montevideo ?

Profitable.

It was clouded over yesterday during the day so I checked out the local casino.

As I have posted elsewhere, part of my "job" as far as I have one is to play poker. I went to the local casino (there is only one big one) and they have a poker room. I have not played in the last 3 months as most of the places I have been it's either illegal or they just don't offer the game in the casinos.

Anyway, this place not only had poker going but they have a dedicated poker room.

Went there around 6pm and they had 2 tables of $3-$6 no limit going. I am pretty comfortable playing at this level and I usually play $2-$5 in vegas. Normally for $2-$5 I will sit down with $1,000. Buy in for $500 and have the other $500 in my pocket should I need a re-buy.

Went to the cash machine and tried to withdraw $1,000 but the damn thing had a withdrawal limit and I could only get $300 which is nothing at $3-$6. Only 50 big blinds. Normally I don't like to sit down with less than 100 big blinds and with another 100 big blinds in my pocket.

With such a small amount I had to sit pretty snug, fold a lot pre flop and wait for spots but it gave me a good chance to observe the play and get my reads on the players.

Verdict? These players are truly awful. There was one guy opposite me who played, and I kid you not, EVERY SINGLE HAND HE WAS DEALT regardless of the pre-flop bet.

He also WOULD NOT FOLD regardless of how much you bet if he hit anything at all even bottom pair with a week kicker. He would also call if he hit nothing but had overcards and would just check call every single board.

I was planning to check out the night-life it being Friday night but it turned out to be too profitable to stop playing.

The check caller I mentioned earlier ran his $500 up to $1,500 and then promptly lost it all, bought in again for $500 and I stacked him and then he bought in again.

Long story short, I bought in for $300 and cashed out for over $3,000.

I got it up to more than $3,500 at one point but ended up cashing out for $3,120 which I am quite happy with.

Bearing in mind that I only spend about $1,000 per month that's not bad.

When I bought in I had the least amount of chips on the table and when I cashed out I had more chips on the table than everyone combined.

It was. Probably the 2nd worst poker players I have ever come across.

The worst being in Mar Del Plata, Argentina.

Funniest hand was when I was dealt aces (which I only got twice in the whole session). I make a chunky pre flop raise.

Guy asks me why I raised so much and what do I have. I point to the free gin and topic I am drinking (free drinks at the casino for all the players and I had been jamming on rum and coke, beer and G+T the whole session) and say "No tengo nada. Estoy borracho" to which he responds by going all in for about $300-$400.

I call and turn over my aces. He turns over kings. Lol.

That was probably the biggest pot of the session. Everyone at the next table stopped playing to watch.

Great move.

That should give you a little extra walking around CASH.

I don't think you missed the nightlife (in barra anyway). Way too expensive/pretentious/snobby.

Haven't been to Punta del Este, but heard good and bad about it. Passed through Montevideo for a day and I really liked it to be honest. It's probably the most chilled-out capital city I've ever been in. Parts of it are a bit run-down and a lot of places need a lick of paint, which in my opinion gives it a fair bit of rustic charm. The Uruguyans I met seemed really friendly and the girls were quite pretty, but not up to the standards of Argentina or Brazil. I never got a chance to experience the nightlife but I met an English guy who was doing some college exchange programme for 4 months and he said the nightlife was excellent. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I'd say Montevideo's definitely worth checking out.

My feelings are generally the same as yours. I was there about 3 days and liked the city quite a bit. If I had to live in that region, I'd choose Montevideo over Buenos Aires because it is just like Buenos Aires except way more laid back plus the benefit of real beaches. I was mostly confined to the Old City part of town and didn't have time to venture much beyond that, but there are lot's of areas that I didn't see. Nightlife in the Old City seemed concentrated on one street near independence plaza and I did check out a club that I didn't leave till like 5am as well as some other spots. I'm sure there's nightlife zones in other parts of town too. Girls to me looked no different than what I saw in Buenos Aires which shouldn't be surprising since they're pretty much identical populations.

RE: Punta Del Este / Montevideo, Uruguay
I don't remember the exact name but there is actually an area on the opposite end of the city from the old town with some excellent, higher end nightlife with bars and clubs all close together on a street. This street and the bar and club I went into had some really beautiful women. Foreigners mostly stick to the clubs by the hostels in the old town so you may very well be one of the only foreigners in this area. I'll try and figure out what it was called.

Besides the old town, Centro, Cordon, Parque Rodo, and Pocitos are other areas with popular nightlife options.

Generally speaking, nightlife in Montevideo starts Thursday and finishes Sunday morning.

RE: Punta Del Este / Montevideo, Uruguay
Well I went out in Montevideo last night (tuesday) and I actually managed to find a place that was rocking.

It was a bar in between independencia sq and the seafront (called ramblas)

The bar was called Roca I think. Every tues night that have a bunch of DJs but, here's the twist, all the DJs are female. So basically it a female DJ night.

Ratio of women to men was great. Had a lesbian vibe about it but I figured, what the hell, great chance to practice my lesbian game.

Note : I have had quite a bit of success nailing lesbians. Including SNLing a French lesbian chick the first week I lived in Paris (I didn't speak French, she didn't speak English - I even managed to impress myself with that lay) and a lesbian couple who actually lived together who, on the night I met them, both made passes at me while the other one was in the bathroom.

Anyway, this Roca place spills out on the pavement. My previous successes with lesbians came from regular bars so I had never tried gaming in such an environment. It was dyke central. Lots of the guys that were there seemed to be their gay male friends.

Opened some sets without any real problem but the pattern that I noticed is that even though they would open and hook, they would drift away because I did not fall in the category of lesbian or gay best friend.

Long story short I worked out the way to prevent this. When you open, go and talk to the gay best friend guys first. Once you have opened them, basically you are accepted into the group and then girls will stay and chat and not drift off.

Looks wise the crowd was very cute (I am talking about the girls here obviously) and there were very very few bulldog dyke types.

Got the number of the cutest girl there and I will follow that up tonight if I can get her to come out.

I am only in Montevideo two nights total so my window of opportunity is small but I will have fun trying.

BTW : Good opener for the gay friend guys.

Me : Hey are you Uruguayan ?

Him : Yeah.

Me : Is it true that all Uruguayan girls are crazy. (I said this in front of my target while ignoring her)

Him : Oh my god yes !!! (starts laughing)

Me : Is this one crazy. (I point at my target)

And from there the whole set was hooked.

RE: Punta Del Este / Montevideo, Uruguay
Update : The bar was called La Ronda. Not La Roca.

As for the girl I met there? He shoots. He scores!

Texted her the next day (yesterday) and invited her out. She said yes. We met at the bar at my hostel with along with 2 other girls I met through couchsurfing (not cute) around 10:40pm.

This girl was every bit as cute as I remember. She looks exactly like a younger, cuter version of Michelle Forbes's character in the movie Kalifornia (the one with the short black bob haircut) only with a friendly, sweet personality.

The four of us went to a bar nearby and shared some beers. The girls mostly talked and I just kinoed HBkalifornia and chilled.

When HBkalifornia went to the bathroom, the girls, who noticed obviously what was going on, said "You know if you want us to leave you guys alone, just let us know". I said cool. Chilled some more and when it was time to bounce to another part of town (a part of town near HBkalifornia's place, my idea) I just typed out a message on my phone asking the other girls to make their excuses and give us some privacy.

Not only were they totally cool, they even gave us a lift to the next venue before leaving us alone.

Weds Night Nightlife Tip : Azabache Cafe is rocking on a weds night. Along with La Ronda on Tues, mid-week nightlife in montevideo rocks IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO (otherwise it sucks, centre of town was dead).

Azabache Cafe is in the middle of a park. El Parque De Los Aliados if you want to look it up. Anyway, we get there and its packed but there is a cover. She does not have cash for the cover charge and, if I paid the cover I would only have enough left to buy 1 drink.

We laugh and scratch that idea. Turned out to be for the best because we started walking and looking for a regular bar and, on the walk, I asked her if she had beer / wine / music at her place (as I knew we were in her neighbourhood now) and we could party there. She lived with her folks so that was out so I suggested we go to a hotel and make our own party.

She seemed down for that idea so we walk towards the cash machine so I can pay the taxi and hotel. On the walk I stop her, pull her into me and make out with her on the street.

Get to the cash machine and hop in a cab. Hotel was only $20 for the night plus $3 for a litre of beer to share and we made our own party.

Am seriously glad we couldn't get into Azabache at 1am because I did not stop banging this chick until 6am. God knows what time it would have been if we had spent a few hours in Azabache first.

Time from meetup to bang on the day 2? A little over 3 hours. If you add that to time spent on the day 1 it's probably about 3 hours 40 mins or something like that.

I am taking the ferry to BA in a little over an hour becuase I am busy there this weekend (6 girls to meet and a birthday party to go to) but we have already made plans to party together on monday or tuesday for a few days.

I already told this girl I don't believe in monogamy so she is definitely down with just being lovers and she is a keeper. My first Uruguayan chick too.

This girl is great ! Lesbian bar game rocks !!

now that was a nice report!
actually, i find lesbians chicks, specially younger ones, quite easy lays if you approach them right (good guy but overly secure) and attack directly from the front.

MAkes me want to go to Montevideo!

I like these specific tips. Good work.

You and girls with bob haircuts. You are killing me.

I will have a pretty good report for you guys shortly, once I get back to the states and let it all settle in.

in the last year i have been to every single country in south america apart from the guianas and got laid in every single one except venezuela (mainly because of la ley seca in force every weekend i was there - cock blocked by hugo chavez. Fuck you chavez!) and brazil (my portuguese sucks)

How would living in Uruguay compare to living in Argentina?

Uruguay is just a mini Argentina basically (but don't say that though).

Ethnically they are from the exact same stock as Argies and look exactly the same ... so if you like Argentinian girls ...

Guys,
I'm planning to go to Punta del Este in December/january for end of year holidays. Well I saw in a blog guy saying all the top-models from Brasil, Uruguay, Argentina go there during this period of the year in order to be seen/cast. Can anyone confirm that lol?
Well basically i'm hesitating between Punta del Este and Florianopolis since I'm looking for a spot with:
1) nice playa
2) HB>9. high quality chicks
3) Sun
Thanks !

Confirmed. All you are looking for is in Punta del Este in January only!

Even the mighty Ralph Lauren himself makes a cameo appearance with his models....so what does that tell you?
