RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
Amity do you take it right before bed or do you wait thirty mins before sleeping? Try waiting 30 mins I've had that issue too. Sometimes I take one cap of magnesium with it too and that makes me feel well rested.

Adding licorcice root to my routine after reading and hearing good things. Been working two jobs lately and haven't been sleeping like I should.

http://www.iherb.com/m/r?pid=686&rwid=1#rwid1

Also have changed my amino acid to a supp called platinum plus essential amino acids by a company called super nutrient. Two capsules before each meal three times a day. This is by far the best Amino I have ever taken and will stay with this one from now on it. It has msm and creatine in it as well. The Dr who runs the site knows his stuff. This blend helps with gut absorption as well so basically makes whatever other foods or supps you take better. Read his site And watch his videos. Interesting stuff.

I've been taking a 100mg zinc tablet once a day usually with lunch or dinner. Gotta tell ya ...I feel mentally sharper. Less brain fog.

Took some L-OptiZinc this morning in an empty stomach without thinking about it.

Got some really obnoxious stomach pain, ugh.

Adding this to the protocol. This stuff is the truth. No need to boil water to drink hot tea three times a day just add a full dropper to a cup of water and have great energy and focus throughout the day. This is a staple now after a week trial run.

I'm on 50mg daily and have noticed slight improvements. I'm cautious to dose higher though, out of concern for the long term consequences.

Are there any studies done on safe, long term dosage levels for men? I don't want to get a zinc buildup and copper deficiency.

Damn, bro, how much supplements are you downing???

Honestly, A good amount bro. Feel great though. It's no different than eating food to me because most of what i am taking is food based and i prefer it over a cocktail of prescription meds. And something like the green tea elixir is just green tea. Its simple. It tastes good and really makes me feel awesome. That's why I want to share it with who ever cares. Some people drink soda 3-4 times a day, I take green tea drops. I read alot about health and nutrition. Reading a book right now called "natures detox plan" it's written by a NASA engineer. It's cool shit and I'm learning.

Same people who drink soda all day or processed food or bread at every meal are the same who think supplements are crazy. It's funny to me. Not that you are like that moma just saying. I've worked with doctors who have straight up told me, "if everyone knew all the "secrets" I'd be out of practice." The fact is doctors need patients to make money and you being healthy really isn't in there best interest. Theyd rather have you on drugs for life and cash in on your mis fortune. It disgusts me. And if people were educated and knew what was up it wouldn't have to be like this. United States has more doctors to people than any other country in the world. That's a problem to me. Did you know majority of doctors who get cancer opt not to take chemo. Why is that? Or check this doctor out. Modern medicine had her wheel chair bound til she made the switch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLjgBLwH3Wc

Sorry to go on a rant but one of the main concerns on all this political debate bull shit is health care and no one talks about preventing shit. It's all about treatment. Treatment usually happens when people are far gone. Well maybe if we learned how to not get there in the first place we could save alot of drama and money on all this "healthcare" that tax payers seem to care so much about. If it was up to me I would put fat people in Mandatory fat camps where they were forced to live a certain way. But that's not a democracy supposedly. At least give an incentive to healthy people, something.

If you are worried just get your zinc from food. Oysters and pumpkin seeds are two great sources. Or just don't mega dose it. 25-50 mg of zinc a day isn't going to make waves in your system like that where it will set other things out of balance. There is also food based zinc supps as well made from plants. Or you can get the zinc test you swish in your mouth and if it has a taste you know your levels Are good. It's more about fixing the deficiency and than going back to a baseline level. But majority of folks are deficient in everything because 9/10 people are protein deficient and have mal absorption or inflamed gut. That means you are not absorbing nutrients correctly and it doesnt matter how good you eat or what supplements you take. Seems like everyone is coping with some kind of shit or on some kind of drug and they just accept it without wanting to get to the root of the problem. It all starts in the gut. Even mental disorders.

It's sad to think that the vitamin and pill-pushing industries have convinced people that the baseline status of everyone is ''sick''.

The human body is remarkable and can adapt to wide variety of foods and environments and retain a considerable degree of health. To say that 9/10 people are ill is just big-nutri propaganda. And in my experience the issue isn't with nutrient deficiency, but excessive ingestion of anti-nutrients like fizzy soft drinks, sugar, fried junk.

But yes, gut functioning is an overlooked aspect of health.

Your citations for "all problems start in the gut.." including mental disorders....do you have any formal training in medical biochemistry, genetics, etc, so you can point to peer-reviewed articles supporting this?

I never said 9 out of 10 people were ill i said 9 out of 10 people are protein deficient. Here's one article among many that explains why with references on the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately, Dr Vickery makes multiple claims to original research without actually providing references for us to read his research.
This is usually the hallmark of a quack. I also did a search on his name and no published articles come up. A lack of published research, while at the same time claiming to do research, is also sometimes indicative of quackdom.

But if his treatment works for his patients, then power to them.

I started taking my zinc caps (200mg) two days ago, can't wait to report back the results, so far no stomach problems of kinds. Thanks Midnite for the great thread; this is why I love the RVF, so much great advice to make yourself a better person!

To me this is all about optimization, not being "ill". If i want to feel/look/perform to the best of my ability taking these things into account is important.

On a Zinc note i was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast the other day and they had Victor Conte on. Victor was the head of Balco Labrotorys that was providing all the performance enhancing drugs to athletes (olympic, baseball, football) before the FBI came knocking. Very interesting podcast he lays down who he thinks is on roids in sport, how they do it etc etc.

He was also the creator of ZMA, and he was saying you want to have no more then 30mgs a day of Zinc. Well worth the listen would be interested to see what you guys thought. Search Joe Rogan podcast on itunes.

RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
After reading this thread a few nights ago, I decided to go to the pharmacy to pick up some zinc supplements. I know that other posters have mentioned that the pharmacy-brand zinc supplements are not very good, but it was very late and the pharmacy was pretty much the only place which was open. When I arrived at the pharmacy, I could not find any supplements which contained more than thirty-five milligrams of zinc per tablet. I asked the clerk, who may or may not have been of Indian extraction, if the store sold any zinc supplements which contained more than thirty-five milligrams of zinc per tablet. The clerk led me directly to the store's display of condoms, then engaged in no further verbal communication with me. I therefore bought the zinc supplements which contained the thirty-five milligrams, because I felt a sense of urgency. For about the past three days, I have been taking about five of the pills I bought per day. My preliminary observations are as follows:

1. The strongest morning erections I have ever had. I do not notice much of a change with regard to the strength of my erections during the day. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted to try the zinc supplements.
2. Bright yellow urine which does not become more clear during the day.
3. More vivid dreams.
4. Clearer speech in both Spanish and English. The poster who stated he had problems with clarity of speech (I believe his name is Jason34) may want to consider zinc as a means of treatment.
5. No improvement with sleep. If anything, my sleep patterns have worsened.

RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
The zinc pills arrived on Friday, started taking 100mg in the morning and 100mg at night (2x50mg pills). Can't say I notice any changes, besides having trouble falling asleep a couple nights and waking up more easily. Sex/sexual performance was normal. Maybe I should give it some more time.

By the way, heads up, WebMD lists a lot of benefits for taking zinc, but also has warnings:

Quote:Taking high amounts of zinc is LIKELY UNSAFE. High doses above the recommended amounts might cause fever, coughing, stomach pain, fatigue, and many other problems.

Taking more than 100 mg of supplemental zinc daily or taking supplemental zinc for 10 or more years doubles the risk of developing prostate cancer. There is also concern that taking large amounts of a multivitamin plus a separate zinc supplement increases the chance of dying from prostate cancer.

Just wanted to add:

I'm sure this has to do with my overall healthy lifestyle. I don't eat fast food, I juice several times a week, take acv, zinc, a few other supplements.

But every single motherfucker at work got sick over the past few weeks. Dozens of people coughing, wheezing, sneezing, calling out sick. I work more hours than any of them to, so I've had tons of exposure.

Not me. Not sure if it's the zinc or everything else but my immune system is maxxed out I think.

RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
Juice'll do that for you, man. I was in the gym a few weeks ago and some bastard came in who had what sounded like the black plague. He spent 30 minutes on a treadmill hacking and coughing and spewing everywhere. Most disgusting thing I've ever seen.

When I got back to my apartment I immediately made a juice out of every single fruit I could grab. Just threw them all in there. Oranges, lemons, limes, apples. Downed what came out and didn't feel a thing. I'm sure if I hadn't I would've been laid up for a week, or longer.

I've been taking Zinc but those health warnings scare the fuck out of me. I think I'm gonna switch to taking a half pill instead of a full, between that and the multivitamin that'll give me a good 30 mg a day or so.

RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
Quote:Acute zinc toxicity occurs if you take a large amount of this mineral over a short period of time, such as a few hours or days. Symptoms associated with acute zinc overdose include nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. Typically, these symptoms of an acute zinc overdose develop within 30 minutes following zinc consumption. You may also feel unusually irritable, lethargic or dizzy. Taking too much zinc in a short period of time may also cause body pain, convulsions, chills, shortness of breath or jaundice. Without prompt and appropriate medical care, an acute overdose of zinc may be life-threatening.

Be careful of people who are putting a lot of shit in their bodies without considering the short and long-term effects of what it may do to them.

Zinc-rich foods don't cause the problems outlined above, but consuming 3-4 50 mg pills a day is not going to work out well for everybody.

RE: Zinc has made me a better man.
Found this morning. From
http://www.charlespoliquin.com/ArticlesM..._Zinc.aspx

....simplest way to test for zinc is a taste test that works because we know that taste and smell are dependent on there being adequate zinc in the body. To do this test, get zinc sulfate and put about 1-2 teaspoons in a cup and sip it, holding it in the mouth. If it tastes just like water, you are very zinc deficient. If you taste something slightly metallic, you are moderately zinc deficient. If it tastes disgusting—strongly metallic and unpleasant—your levels are probably adequate. This test is subject to individual taste perception and it is not 100 percent valid, but it is a good place to start.

I quit taking zinc and magnesium for a couple of days and my sleep apnea seemingly disappeared. I no longer snore or wake up tired. For three days now I've been back on my regular schedule of sleeping 6-7 hours a night without issue.

Do you guys notice zinc or magnesium relaxing your muscles (which could cause apnea) or inducing very low anxiety or unusually deep sleep?

Magnesium is a natural sleep aide for many people. Its the main ingredient on many natural sleep aides.

It puts me out for the count. A solid 10hours sleep with out, don't even wake up to piss and still feel groggy!
