RE: The most beta song on the planet

Is She Really Going Out With Him? by Joe Jackson deserves an honourable mention.

Quote:Pretty women out walking with gorillas down my street
From my window I'm staring while my coffee goes cold

Look over there
(Where?)
There, there's a lady that I used to know
She's married now or engaged or something so I'm told

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
Because if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here

Tonight's the night when I go to all the parties down my street
I wash my hair and I kid myself, I look real smooth

Look over there
(Where?)
There, here comes Jeanie with her new boyfriend
They say that looks don't count for much
And so there goes your proof

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
Because if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here
Around here

But if looks could kill
There's a man there who is marked down as dead
'Cause I've had my fill

Listen you, take your hands from her head
I get so mean around the scene
Hey, hey, hey

Is she really going out with him?
Is she really gonna take him home tonight?
Is she really going out with him?
Because if my eyes don't deceive me
There's something going wrong around here
Around here

Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around here
Something going wrong around

^ Is that the same Joe Jackson who wrote Anthrax's 1990 single "Got the Time"?

,,Я видел, куда падает солнце!
Оно уходит сквозь постель,
В глубокую щель!"
-Андрей Середа, ,,Улица чужих лиц", 1989 г.

Yeah, it's a cover of the closing track on Jackson's 1979 album 'Look Sharp!'

Jackson is a bender, and has the classic beta issues with masculinity. His song 'Real Men' is another long Beta Whine.

"Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same"

I have often wondered whether the above passage implies that his girlfriend would be unwilling to invest in him as much as he would in her (due to him being one of the few remaining romantics) or is simply a reflection of his belief that only men are supposed to be the protectors (not necessarily a cynical view).

This song could be considered beta, but I admit that it's my guilty pleasure and I cannot get it out of my head:

RE: The most beta song on the planet
Try these two 'classics'

Smokey Robinson 'being with you'

Desperate beta pleading to stay with a girl of bad repute, while friends ostracise him so he starts making excuses for her.

https://youtu.be/0P2a6aLDkkM

I don't care what they think of me
And I don't care what they say
I don't care what they think if you're leavin'
I'm gonna beg you to stay

I don't care if they start to avoid me
I don't care what they do
I don't care about anything else
But bein' with you
Bein' with you

Honey, don't go
Don't leave this scene
Be out of the picture
And off of the screen
Don't let them say
We told you so
They tell me you love me
And then let me go
I heard the warnin' voice
From friends and my relations
They tell me all about your
Heart-break reputation

But I don't care what they think about me
And I don't care what they say, no
I don't care what they think if you're leavin'
I'm gonna beg you to stay

I don't care if they start to avoid me
I don't care what they do
I don't care about anything else
But bein' with you
Bein' with you

People can change they always do
Haven't they noticed the changes in you
Or can it be that like love I am blind
Do I want it so much
'Til it's all in my mind
One thing I know for sure
It's really, really, real

I never felt before
The way you make me feel
I don't care what they think about me
And I don't care what they say
I don't care what they think if you're leavin'
I'm gonna beg you to stay
I don't care if they start to avoid me
I don't care what they do
I don't care about anything else
But bein' with you
Bein' with you
Bein' with you

AND DONT FORGET THIS CLASSIC SELF COCK BLOCKING EUNUCH ANTHEM...

'We don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time'... ... it gets worse

James Blunt "You're Beautiful"...makes me want to vomit when I hear it

Here's the chorus (imagine saying this shite)...

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

RE: The most beta song on the planet
If you listen to most songs being played on the radio today, you'll notice they generally fall under two categories:

1.) Beta Love Ballads
2.) Bitter/Self-Entitled Chick Anthems

The guys will sing about how "perfect" their woman supposedly is, how she's a "goddess" who deserves worship, how they wouldn't change a thing about her because she's just the best thing that's ever happened to them. Blah, blah, blah.

The girls will sing about how they got fucked over by some guy and now they're going to get him back for "doing them wrong". His likely "sins"? Supposedly taking her for granted, cheating on her, etc. Alternately, she'll sing about her supposedly amazing sexual prowess (while we're not supposed to be objectifying her, of course, because #Patriarchy). Additionally, she'll be sure to add-in how impossibly sexy she is, independent, strong, smart, pretty much better than you in every possible way and how basically you'd be lucky to even catch a whiff of one of her farts, etc.

Can you imagine the outrage if a man were to start singing songs about how most women don't deserve him? How they should possess a certain series of physical qualities/character traits and even possibly an IQ prerequisite for them to think they even had a chance to temporarily capture his interest, forget about ever tying him down for life. Unless that artist did some serious pandering to women after that, he'd very likely soon find his career cut short. A woman, on the other hand, would likely receive critical acclaim for songs sung from the perspective of men not being good enough for women.

Typical example of a Beta Love Ballad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD6T7pngZh4 - "To Be With You" by Mr. Bigg

The guy pathetically mentions waiting in line for his chance to be with the girl he's singing about. Cringe.

Typical example of a Bitter/Self-Entitled Chick Anthem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaSy8yy-mr8 - "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood

I would take a stab at describing how shitty that song is myself, but I think Bill Burr has already hit the nail on the head:

I think the weeknd balances things out well. He basically talks about partying and banging broads, but does it more tastefully instead of saying "NIGGA IMMA FUCK YO BITCH!".

I thought his music was getaasfuck/10 at first, but some of it is pretty dope.

RE: The most beta song on the planet
Chicago's "You're the Inspiration" was a monster hit in 1984. There was a time when you could not spend any time near a mall or a hair salon and not hear this song playing. It's the quintessential 80's love-power-ballad, dripping with sappy sentiment:

(Incidentally, I just noticed that the father at 2:30 is wearing a pair of earbuds. In 1984? Weird....)

Now here's something interesting: Listen to the song, and imagine instead of a wimpy beta male singing, it's a woman singing about her feelings for a man. The result is almost unbearably endearing.

Quote:You're the meaning in my life
You're the inspiration
You bring feeling to my life
You're the inspiration
Wanna have you near me
I wanna have you hear me sayin'
No one needs you more than I need you

Sung by a falsetto-voiced guy, it's just embarrassing.

Chicago topped themselves shortly thereafter with the anthem of white knights, the infamous "Glory of Love" —

Quote:Like a knight in shining armor
From a long time ago
Just in time I will save the day
Take you to my castle far away

I am the man who will fight for your honor
I'll be the hero that you're dreamin' of
Gonna live forever
Knowing together
That we did it all for the Glory of Love

Heard this today on the radio. http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/shawnmend...etter.html

I know I can treat you better than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all your wasted crying
When you should be with me instead

RE: The most beta song on the planet
I'm just gobsmacked at the incredible popularity of several tunes that I can only describe as "cock carousel to cat lady" anthems.

Take the fatty Adele. Two of her biggest hits "hello" and "someone like you" are essentially ballads about a dumb bitch who wakes up one day to find her labia has stretched past her knees and then laments about ditching Mr Right and leaving him in the dust all those years ago.

When songs like this come on in the background I get funny looks from people when I start laughing. Laugh

RE: The most beta song on the planet
I was flipping through a book on the band earlier, and this struck me as the most GAMMA song on the planet.

The difference is the intensity of the fantasy and the remove from women. A Beta can have White Knight fantasies or write about how burnt they've been by women, sure, but Gammas are different.

If they're hurt, then they become women: the song becomes all about the depth of emotional betrayal and how hurt and victimised they are. A gamma could never write a song like, say, Abba: "Neither you nor I'm too blame when all is said and done".

Of course, when they sing a love song, it sounds like how devoted they are, but rather than putting a woman on a pedestal ala Beta, they build a fucking delusional shrine to her.

It's a shame, I can't criticise this musically or performance wise, but note the creepy supplication of those lyrics. Also, note the sexist assumption that women aren't complex human beings with both negatives and positives but are sacred and infalliable.

I wonder if his family background fits my theory about Gammas?

Except "Head Like a Hole" - all of Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine."

A 25 year career and millions of albums sold, launched off Trent Reznor's oneitis of woman whose name is lost to history.

Maybe not a bad thing, all in all.

Not sure if it was mentioned but that Offspring song called "Self-Esteem" or whatever it was pretty much epitomizes it, to the point of almost sounding like a parody.

It's funny, I listened to the NIN song a lot at 17 or so, and, much in the same way as, say, the Cure, I didn't hear the weakness. I listened to it now on my headphones and wanted to facepalm.

It gets worse. I'm waiting in a Milk Bar. They're playing 'Domino Dancing' by Pet Shop Boys on the radio as I type:

Quote:I don't know why, I don't know how,
I thought I loved you but, I'm not sure now,
I've seen you look at strangers too many times,
The love you want is of a different kind

I thought that when we fought I was to blame
But now I know you play a different game
I've seen you dance with danger still wanting more
Add another number to the score

All day, all day, watch them all fall down
All day, all day, domino dancing

Then I had that moment when you realise two gay guys with light latin synth backing are more Red Pill than the guy who usually uses a wall of Industrial Noise and Harsh Guitars.
