Picture this.

Yamaha NS-10s. Original, not rebuilt, never abused.
Luxman PD441 turntable.
McIntosh MC302 + C2600 after carefully considered replacement of some NAD gear.
The LP below.

Its not my house, its Lizard's. Can't tell you how I know.

And as always, checking out as much live footage of The Aristocrats as possible, I hope to god I can one day see them live. Guthrie is the greatest guitarist that has ever lived

"Billy enters the club" - what a scene from Vincent Gallos "Buffalo 66" with perfect musical accompaniment from "Yes" - Heart of the Sunrise.

NSFW - lots of boobs as it's a strip club Billy enters.

The rave scene in England was a fascinating one circa September 1989 apparently. They called a couple of those summers back then the "Summer Of Love". Seems like much of set clip has that old "Italo House" sound which is heavily piano driven.

I played alchemy to death as a kid, the version of Sultans from that concert is one of the things that made me pick up guitar to begin with.

No one makes a guitar sing like Knopfler.

^ first song I ever learned on guitar.

You don't hear Dire Straits tracks on the radio much these days. It's weird, because they were an immensely popular band in the '80s. Even if they broke up in the early 90s, there are plenty of other short-lived bands from that era that seem to get a lot more radio play on normie stations.

Definitely 100% worth seeing live, he never has "off" moments. Hah, I struck lucky actually—Guthrie held a masterclass at my old college about 6 or 7 years ago, and alumni got free entry. He played a bunch of tracks off the Erotic Cakes album and answered questions in between... incredible guy. If you get a chance to see him you won't regret it.

Cautionary tale from some good old boys. Talk about playing against type.

They also got away with a semi-gun control song, which seems miraculous for Southerners:

Quote:Hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself

They also, amazingly, wrote an extremely popular song. . . about cowardice. Is this the only pop song ever about that topic?

Quote:I was scared and fearing for my life
I was shaking like a leaf on a tree
'Cause he was lean, mean
Big and bad, Lord
Pointin' that gun on me
"Oh, wait a minute, mister
I didn't even kiss her
Don't want no trouble with you
And I know you don't owe me
But I wish you'd let me
Ask one favor from you"
"Oh, won't you
Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister
Gimme three steps toward the door?

They are one of the few bands that honestly transcend their time, place and genre. It is impossible to get tired of them.

Try to find a reaction video on Youtube where people, of any age, hate Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Look at this reaction video by a couple of young guys who have only heard Sweet Home Alabama as far as Skynyrd goes.

They go from patient skepticism to, before the song even gets going, saying "Playlist!!" in a few minutes.

Timeless.
