I thought this was an interesting article about the actual costs of perfumes and colognes

The actual liquid comes out to about $2

This thread has helped me a lot. I didn't wear cologne before it. I have the following that seem to work well in my tropical climate (random order):
Only the Brave
Kouros
Tom Ford Noir
Terre d'Hermes
L'eau d'Issey
Dior Homme Intense

But looking for something to wear in cold weather for the holidays, taking suggestions.

London by Burberry

Pure Malt by Thierry Mugler

Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford-pricy but you can get samples and decants instead of bottles

There are plenty of others that would work-fragrances with a lot of spice, amber, incense, rich food or evergreen notes lend themselves well to cold weather and holidays

This year my holiday fragrance is going to be Norne by Slumberhouse-smells like an evergreen forest

Big fan of Victorinox products...wasn't too sold on their cologne though -- Until I just happened to spray some on while killing time at an airport.

Holy compliments -- problem was I didn't remember which one it was.

Finally found it -- great all around contender daily type of scent. Very fresh, clean, not citrusy or juvenile. But nice.

Victorinox -- Unlimited

Also a good travel cologne as its kind of made for it with the rubber casing.

RE: What colognes do you own?
Since we're at the beginning of Spring, I thought I would revive this thread to discuss colognes for Spring

Not for Summer, I mean specifically for Spring with its warm days, cooler nights, fresh breezes and greenery.

What do you have now that you plan to wear? What do you want to buy or try?

Here's my list:

What I already have that I'll be wearing:

Green Irish Tweed
Aventus
Hugo
The Dreamer
Bleu
Allure Homme sport
Aqua Quorum
Instinct
Dirty English
Chic
Terres d'hermes
Mugler Cologne
Jaipur
L'eau d'Issey
Bulgari Aqua

To buy or try:

Bleeker st
Riverside Dr
Rose 31
Bergamot 22
Monsieur Balmain
Acqua di Parma Colonia
Eight and Bob
Bergamatto Marino
Neroli Portofino
Philosykos
Blu Mediterraneo Fico di Amalfi
Fahrenheit
Geranium pour Monsieur
L'Humaniste
Eros

RE: What colognes do you own?
Am I crazy to say I wear Lucky You by Lucky? I've been wearing it for years and still love it. I just like the smell of it personally.

I've had many women say they love the smell of it...tho I can't say I've had one say it during a pickup.

Good thread, I think I'll branch out.

Helluva list MXY...any input on what I should try next (just one)?

RE: What colognes do you own?
Not crazy at all- if you like it and girls like it then of course wear it. Some of my most worn are mass market ones- Instinct by David Beckham, Nautica Voyage, Dirty English and Set Sail St Barts, all of which can be had for $20 or less from discounters.

That said, it's a good idea to have at least several choices in your cologne wardrobe that you can use for different seasons and occasions.

If I had to choose one cologne to recommend, it would definitely be Bleu by Chanel. It's versatility is unmatched. It can be worn from early Spring to mid-Fall in any situation- daytime casual or office, nighttime date or pickup scenarios. Use two sprays if you want it to be subtle and four if you want it stronger. Ive used up to six sprays in a nightclub environment when I wanted a lot of projection and gotten compliments. And you will get compliments; women absolutely love it. But it's more subtle, sophisticated and fresh than many clubbing scents.

It's not a cheapie, though. I paid $100 for a 100ml bottle at a local department store. Chanels are not available through online discount fragrance sites, so you have to pay full price for them. But Bleu is one fragrance that is definitely worth the money since you will get so much use out of it.

RE: What colognes do you own?
I am quite new to the perfume game, but had a fling recently with a french girl working in the perfume industry who recommended L'eau d'Issey which I have been experimenting with. It seems to only improve as the weather improves, definitely a spring/summer scent, but way too light and floral to be considered for a winter scent.

I also have a more offbeat perfume called Encre Noire, its a very weird scent! To say the least, but an interesting one. Definitely more of a winter/night scent to be used sparingly, sophisticated and powerful, but by no means warm. Not one to wear into the office unless you want strange reactions - as I found out the hard way!

I would like to invest more in some Oud type scents going forward. The nice ones do seem to be very expensive though.

Aqua Di Parma seem to have a good range also.

Damn, you're right. Ebay is $80 (I buy my Lucky on ebay).

Thanks for the pricey suggestion. Might be able to get it on auction a little cheaper.

RE: What colognes do you own?
No, do not buy Chanel on Ebay!!! There's a very good chance it will be counterfeit. Chanel strictly controls their distribution, which is why you can't buy Chanel through legitimate online fragrance discounters. If those large companies can't get it, what are the chances that some Ebay seller can? About zero.

Counterfeit fragrances are a huge problem on Ebay, mostly with the upscale ones but even some of the more expensive mass market ones like Burberry are frequently counterfeit. The only ones I've bought off Ebay are partially used bottles from private sellers who it's clear are just selling their own bottles. Inexpensive ones like Lucky are likely ok too since they are widely available for discount and they don't have the high profit that selling fake expensive ones do.

I just checked Chanel's website-you can order it directly from them for $89 for 100ml. Or you can get it from Sephora or at major department stores or their online stores for a similar price. Why take a risk of getting ripped off just to save a few bucks.

I haven't tried the edp version of Bleu but I've read good things about it. Will see if my local Sephora has it next time I'm over that way.

I used to have quite a few but stopped wearing them often so I haven't bought any in years. I should start again.

On a side note, there's nothing worse than being around someone that smells too strong. How many sprays and where on the body are people here generally going with, or do you do the whole spray a cloud in the air and walk through it thing?

I still have bottles of:

Dior Homme - not sure what it's known as now as it was known as simply Dior Homme when it was first released - pretty nice.

Comme Des Garcons 2 - this is unisex and is more of an interesting fragrance than an attractive one, as are most CDG fragrances - have been complimented on it several times over the years though.

-Thallium

I discovered this cologne by pure happenstance when I went into a fragrance shop inside a mall. The chick at the counter said it was one of her favorites and I tried it out. I've received many compliments from women. Has kind of a sweet smell. This is my go-to.

-Hanae Mori

A few years ago I heard about this cologne on one of David DeAngelo's programs. I found it at a Macy's (or maybe Nordstrom) liked the smell.

I've never met anyone else who wears these colognes.

RE: What colognes do you own?
I've only been wearing cologne for about two years. I started with Polo Blue on a recommendation from a friend and I still love it.

I also own:

John Varvatos "Artisan" - To me this just smells like pure class in a bottle, it reminds me of some James Bond type driving an old convertible through the leafy autumn countryside or something. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem very strong at all.

Guess Seductive Homme Blue - Weirdly I really liked this when I tested it in the shop, but it was totally different when I used it at home. It's ok, but a bit sweet smelling for my taste.

Calvin Klein Encounter Fresh - Got it free with the Guess cologne. Way too sweet for my liking.

Can anyone recommend something along the lines of Artisan that lasts and projects well? Both that and Polo smell fantastic, but reading the reviews online it seems I'm not the only one that thinks they could be stronger/more long lasting.
