RE: Any options traders here?
Anybody holding NFLX puts ? I am getting shit kicked today. Fucking broke ass company that won't even be around in 3 or 4 years and it is getting squeezed hard.

Just ranting, but I hate it when these momo stocks go on a run on new positive news.

I got stopped out of short MA put weeklys but I'm still short GOOG 680/685 & SPX 1410/1415 put weeklys. Sold the GOOG weeklys at $57 per spread and the SPX at $85 per spread. Aiming at letting these expire worthless. Any other stocks with liquid options chains & weeklys that I should look at? I'm long bias

Apple. It is so predictable. If I am bored I will log into my trading account and even on a laptop I can scalp a few points here and there. Besides the TBTF banks, Apple has got to be the most liquid stock on the weeklys. But the best part is it has such wild moves through out the day that you can make quick money if you want to be at the desk for a couple hours. I usually buy 10k worth of OTM calls or puts and wait for the directional move and then I'm out in under a hour usually with a 3-4k profit. With 10k in options you make roughly 1000 for every dollar move in the stock if the volitility is above average. Which it has been ever since it hit $700.

How far out of the money do you go and how far in expiration?

Not far. So the last couple days Apple has been around 540. So I wait for it to set up and if I think it is going higher I will buy 545. Usually buying 5 bucks out the option price is around 5 bucks a contract.

I usually stick to just 5 or sometimes 10 dollars out of the money. Obviously the Delta increases rapidly when you are ITM so I like to take advantage of that as the stock will go zooming right by the strike I have bought

3-4K profit for a couple of hours work?

Buddy, YOU should be writing self-help books. If you did that just ONCE every two weeks, you'd be doing better than 95% of this forum.

I'm doing a basic finance course where we cover options, and really looking forward to studying this stuff (however basic).

A year from now you'll wish you started today

I do it all the time. I just logged in to do some trading. I saw apple reversing its trend and I bought 505 puts when it was around 511. Currently trading at 509 as we speak. I bought the options that expire today so they are dirt cheap by apple standards. I paid .75 cents and now they are worth a buck. Going to hold a bit longer as I am expecting apple to hit the LOD shortly

Out of the trade now. Broke even. Theta ate my premium away. Even though the stock was down over 2 bucks I just barely broke even. And now the computers are in there off loading. There have been 6 spikes so far where the price was trading 509-510 and then hit 514 for half a second.

BIGINJAPAN, what broker do you use? I'm getting raped on commissions...I trade large blocks of option contacts multiple times a day and I pay a per contract commish. If I weren't making money I'd be even more upset about it. Currently I work for a B/D so I am forced to use Fidelity which is obviously not ideal for day trading options.

In canada i believe Interactive Brokers is the cheapest. That is who I use in my margin account. In my retirement account I use questrade and they charge a hell of a lot more.

Some reason it defaults to if you are an indian citizen, just click on the non indian tab and it will show the cost of buying options on the US exchanges. Also you can check out the info on FOP's as well.

I'm on $1 per contract commission with Thinkorswim

I thought Thinkorswim's website said they charge $9.99 + $0.75 per contract for option commissions. Is that not true?

RE: Any options traders here?
commissions on anything is negotiable when you give a lot of business. Even more so if you have a lot of cash in your account. Simply call and ask if they can do less. If you daytrade you can drop the 8.99 or 9.99 whatever it is and just pay .75 or $1 per contract. Need a minimum $25-50k in your account to daytrade.

Found this on a search and bumping! Anyone actively trading options? I have been for just over a year and have found a few successful strategies despite the mostly low volatility environment we've seen (seem to be changing these days hehe).

If no one's around maybe i'll start a new thread with some thoughts/ideas for people to get started. Personally I've always been into trading but never could make more than a few bucks (net profits) trading futures/equities directionally. Options suit my personality/time obligations much better.

I am an ex-broker and a professional derivatives trader. It is certainly a good way to make money wherever you are in the world. (or to lose money if you don't know what you're doing) I have an options trading website with educational videos, webinars, trade suggestions, and our performance history if you want to check it out. https://optionwolf.com/membership-join/

Nobody makes money but the online brokers and the market-makers in the options market.

If you could systematically do so, a HF would pay you $10m a year to do it.

RE: Any options traders here?
Ive been holding onto some snapchat puts for a few months now. Made me a handsome sum of money. The stock has been going up today so ive lost a bit. But im gonna strong hand this one and hold until the earnings report. Multiple executives have left, impying a sinking ship, also their monetization is innefective, and implementing ads into the messaging feature of the app would surely decrease their already lowering user base. Anyone else?

No point in trading for a HF or prop shop if you can make enough money on your own doing it... Then you have no manager to answer to, no clients, not risking other people's money, don't have to commute to a desk, etc.

For Canadians trading options via the big banks, the transaction fees are ridiculous. Americans who use discount brokers like tastyworks etc have it made from the start.
I recommend watching tastytrade videos on YouTube.

Don't know shit about how to be good at this, but I have a friend I work with who is really smart (~130 IQ) and is killing it with option trading. We'd be riding out to work together and he's showing me his trading app and casually mentioning how he made $4000 the previous day. He already makes $250K a year so I think it's more of a fun hobby for him.

Making 250k a year. Well how much money is he playing with? There are options traders on here who are well versed in it from knowing. The Greeks to making a simple call or put.

Not gonna get into details in credit or debit spreads to using a 50!delta or 75 delta. Imho a trader needs to learn strong defensive measures to save their trade from a catastrophic loss to hopefully getting it to even a scratch etc.
