Got to see it last night at a press screening...really good movie and highly recommended. Classic Tarantino style, this one comes with a much more humorous side but you still have the good old gore and great plot line. Acting is fantastic.

It was one of those movies where I knew everyone would clap at the end, and they did.

It's actually called Django Unchained. Looking forward to it, I'm a fan of pretty much anything Tarantino (except Deathproof from Grindhouse, what an abomination that was)

I saw some Heartiste posts about this movie--what the H is their problem. One guy was even calling out Roosh to badmouth Tarrantino and this movie.

Ha sorry about the title error, I was pretty tired making that post. Still don't understand the whole Heartiste thing about this movie. All I know was it was a damn good movie, something that comes around less and less these days.

Quentin Tarantino is the interview in the latest issue of Playboy, and he discusses the film. I've never had a problem with Q - I think he writes some of the best, realistic dialogue. I can't think of another white guy that can write for black characters as authentically as he does, and goes like Samuel L. Jackson that work with him a lot love him. He's always embraced different genres of film, and has admittedly payed homage to them in his own films. Any film based in that particular period of this country's history is going to be ripe for certain kinds of analysis with regards to race. It's unavoidable. Many of the myths and stereotypes about black male sexuality grew out of that period in history (slavery), and much of the violence directed towards blacks by white males during and after that period was rooted in fear of that sexuality. It's almost too easy to get psychoanalytical and claim Tarantino has somehow scattered his sexual fears across a movie screen. I would expect some, especially the crowd on that other site, to go there with this.

What on earth is he going on about? The original logo was a british production for people to "keep a stiff upper lip" (ie boost morale) in the British isles during 1940-41.

EDIT: So apparently the poster heartiste was commenting on was mentioning the same info I wrote above. And I still don't see what the heck he's railing about, he sounds like a parody of a the typical intellectual white supremacists but sadly I think he's being serious.

For ages I want to start reading Heartiste but every time the guy comes up with such intellectual and difficult stuff that i'm lost in two sentences. Was this guy born in a library?

This is why HBD will never really take off. I've read some of these HBD sites and most the authors are even worse than Heartiste. In fact he is probably the most accessible blog of this nature. Your average person is not going to get into this stuff because they don't have the time or interest to decipher all that academic psychobabble. HBD is just an intellectual niche tucked away in a hidden corner of the internet. If you look at their blog roll they are all linked to each other. It's just one big circle jerk. I don't see that movement going mainstream anytime soon.

I get it.

1) he is misappropriating one of my favorite WW2 posters that was made to galvanize the English population during Germany's attacks.

2) he believes that there is a coming social apocalypse and it is based solely on diversity. More accurately heartiste's perceived threat is due to the abdication of the American [socio-economical] "throne" by postmodern members of White ethnic descent [I say this because real "Caucasians" make up only a small part of "White ethnic". they actually look like rural Greeks... but I digress].

But he is not.
What he is right about is that America is changing.

• If you look at it objectively what made America great [lets be honest] was money + opportunity. They were the financial and thus military power house. That is not changing because ..."Niggers" (we were there and helped to build it, if I'm not mistaken). It's is changing because the world is.
• Non whites in America don't make for the cheap offshore [sometimes slave] labour that eat up manufacturing gigs. Higher sciences and math education and lower wages do--if they can do what you do cheaper and better than you can well then the choice is clear.
• Non whites in America don't make for the the blatant violations of the social contract OR the other such devices and incentives that insure the erosion of the foundations and sanctity of the homestead [Ah knew I forgot one... the other thing that made America great]
  
  

Why I say that he seems afraid is that he sees [whatever group he identifies with] as having power but then handing it over to "lessors" who his group have not historically been too kind to. This is evidenced by the lack of such an outcry agaist QT's previous work Inglorious Basterds where a similar situation was played out with vengeful Jews in Nazi Germany...

3) regarding the way he says it, he is just trying to intimidate those who don't immediately agree with his xenophobic ideology by wrapping it up in clever yet unnecessarily convoluted smatterings of text--funnily enough in an attempt to hide that he is scared about what he sees unfolding in society around him [not being hypocritical just demonstrating that you can do it too].

Whether or not you agree with his observations is your prerogative.

It's a pity really because he does have some amazing insights into game, but it's as if he dances the line between self parody and self-sabotage via [self inflicted] ad hominem and poisoning of the well.

The KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON poster is interesting. It was a poster which was never used by the British Government in WW2. It was kept in reserve in case Britan was invaded by Germany. In such an event these posters were to go up around the country as a way of telling the British people not to panic. It doesn't get much more understated than that, and makes me rather pleased to be English.

Anyway - around 2008 - a copy of the poster was discovered in some boxes in a large second-hand bookshop called Barter Books. It is an excellent bookshop by the way. And the creator of The Viz (a classic and very funny British comic), Chris Donald, who sometimes helps out in the shop was the one who discovered it.

Soon after the shop started selling it - it went viral. The financial crisis of 2008 helped since the poster seemed to act as a comment on that as well.

PS Sorry for the sidetrack. I am looking forward to Django Unchained. But - I don't think Tarrantino has made a good movie since Jackie Brown. Shame since he is incredibly talented.

Are people forgetting that Inglourious Basterds was Quentin Tarantino doing a take on a Jewish revenge film, culminating in the death of Hitler at the hands of the Allies at the end? I just think he likes to be outrageous for the sake of it, while also parodying often underdiscussed film tropes and subtexts. I believe that there may not be much more to this particular film other than Tarantino picking a former slave to be the protagonist simply because it was easy.

Haha yeah and TheMan is right about the lack of outcry with IB.

I still think that people are just giving Tarantino too much credit. He could have made a movie about a rebellious slave from ancient Rome who then takes down the SPQR but that wouldn't cause a lot of publicity.

Even they acknowledge the fact that there are biological differences. Next you will claim men and women are identical, too...You can scream xenophobia all you want but check out crime rates and tax contribution by race and you will begin to see who contributes what to our society

Citation pls. Asians are a large group. South Asians or East Asians or...? You mean domestically or through trade. If you look at state expenditures and revenues you will see very few Asians on welfare and other aid but paying disproportionate amounts of tax per capita due to their high success rate. I am no Asian btw. I find it astonishing that something as obvious as population differences in phenotype and cultural outcomes is considered taboo. Adoption twin studies are very revealing in this regard.
