I like the concept of this but just wondering if this is too pretentious.

Thoughts?

If it gives you access to clubs around the world/country, why not?

You can humblebrag your way into gold digger pussy and possibly make some good business connects.

Yeah I was thinking more for the networking connections, I know the club in London is very popular and I think hard to get in.

I have friends who are members of Soho House in NYC and London. It's well worth it. Good networking, cool events. The totty isn't bad either, though a bit on the older side. Main benefit for girls is as a date venue; some girls get excited about private clubs.

RE: Should I join this Private club?
Great thread rudebwoy. I've been thinking about this as well recently. Since Ron Burkle bought Soho House and plans to expand the hell out of it, there's alot of potential for anyone with a global lifestyle because you get worldwide acceess.
http://www.fodors.com/news/story_5599.html

I know the clubs in NY and London are insane with competition. (losers always try to sue the NY Soho House when they get rejected for being [email protected] f---s) Do you have an approach for membership? I believe they will still be targeted via creative industries. Furthermore, I've heard that there are "committees" in the new cities to recruit initial members...

As Insignia and Caligula said, the benefits could be substantial, both socially and professionally. If anyone has additional insight it would be appreciated...

I know a guy who is in a club like this. He says that it's effective from the standpoint that you're surrounded by so many successful people that you move your ass harder than before. He doesn't feel right slacking off when other guys are pulling serious coin.

Spot on. Success breeds success. It is good to be around people that motivate you (whether it is through encouragement or competition). This Club sounds like a solid investment in yourself for $100 per month.

If you're angle is the business contacts, perhaps.

If it's the women, not so much. Better to join a YMCA in a city not named Toronto, than a pretentious joint here.

Ive been to the Spoke Club on King west a few times, which is a similar private type place. Beautiful terrace looking at the skyline, but terrible attitudes. No one looks like they are having a good time.

Four years later.... any forum guys have a Soho House membership? I've gone to the NYC spot with a friend several times, and it's a cool spot to hang out with a great crowd. Seems like it would be a solid date spot as well (especially if you're pulling off Tinder or SA game). Price isn't that bad, especially for under 27 and considering it has a gym. I'm trying to figure out how to join, but only have the one reference.

Some of these clubs have long commitments, high initiation fees, and required monthly spends. Make sure you know all the details going in. Find out if there is a cancellation period where you can try it for a month.

Yes

The Toronto one is the most easy to gain access too and d it then gives you access to 90% of the other SOHO House clubs.

It provides a good environment to network and at the locations in around LA, Miami, London there will be celebrities who pop in and out.

The dues can be steep but if you're doing anything that is independent or freelance it's a good way to get high end clients and you could potentially write off a portion off your dues I would imagine.

A big regret of mine was not staying on track towards a membership as I had a connect early on when it arrived here in Toronto.

What are the prices for under 27 and over 27? And can't you leverage your one reference into two, considering your guy must know several members himself?

Edit: Never mind, prices were located under application. Quite reasonable assuming that those are per annum.

Why this place over one of the much older private men's clubs in Toronto (Toronto Club, National Club, Albany Club, York Club)?

I always thought those types of "old boy's club" spots were where the real power brokers hung out and drink, but maybe I'm wrong. That or old country clubs with pictures of golf champions from 1920's and tennis trophies in old wooden cases.

I'm probably the wrong guy to ask since I'm cheap and give two fucks about status. To me the value there is potential networking if you work in film or some creative field. While you may impress some chick taking her there, I doubt anyone would know what it was name dropping it. What's your reasoning or motivation for joining? If its for networking its probably worthwhile. If you think you would enjoy being a member cool. If its for status fuck it

Quote:How does a social club business model that relies on exclusivity grow itself quickly? Get a little less exclusive and invite more masses to join... even if it has a ridiculous 27,000 people on it waiting list currently. This is what Soho House - a group of private members' clubs aimed primarily at those in the arts and media - is doing.

The famed exclusive private social club that caters to people in industries like entertainment and media has started exploring ways around the constraints of having a limited membership (and the resultant limited revenues): simply open the doors to more people - and they're doing it with some success.

Bump,

I've been invited as a prospetive member to a social club on SoCal that has some serious membership.

The meeting is in 2 weeks. I'm very excited. Has anyone gone through this process? What can I expect and how should I approach it?

On a related note, I'm a member of a country spa near me. The facilities are excellent, and as mentioned, it's inspiring being around successfull people all the time. You will find the ones who truely have made it don't brag about it.

RE: Should I join this Private club?
I was recently invited for a special night/event into one of the Soho Houses (one of their top 3). The person who invited us seemed to make a great deal out of it, we each had to send a picture of us for 'approval'. Once inside, it was not any different to what I would consider a high-end nightclub, but more quiet (the venue/event was held outside). Met a few interesting people (lawyers, real estate investors..), quality of women same as a high-end club and many rich kids with not a care in the world. All-in-all not impressed (1. I never heard of the Soho Houses before 2. Only doing some research afterwards I found out some people consider them a big deal) especially not after knowing the yearly fees and having the feeling to being forced to go there now and then to get my money's worth.

Depending on where you are I'd rather use that money for something else and visit rooftop or beach bars of 5* hotels.
