I'm far from a LeBron homer, but he's still averaging a near triple-double in the playoffs and is three wins from taking the Cavs to the Finals, a year after they were bad enough to get the first pick in the draft.

As far as Jimmy Butler "shutting him down", if he had done that, the Bulls would be playing the Hawks tomorrow night.

RE: The NBA Thread
You guys must be trolling about LeBron.

The guy's by far the best player in the game and has turned every team he's been on into a title contender. The only reason he doesnt win the MVP every year is because somebody else has to win it. Its the same reason why Jordan only won 5 MVPs. Clearly he was still the best player in the game in those other years.

Plus, look at the impact he has on his teammates. Only LeBron could get the most out of a guy like JR Smith. Even phil jackson failed miserably at that lol.

You can criticize the media coverage but questioning Lebrons place in the game is absurd.

I dont think Harden should have passed the ball at all, he should have took it straight to the hole... But what do I know.

There is a major king in the Warriors armour, And that's the reliance on 30 point a night from Steph Curry. The only halfcourt offense they are getting is off the Steph Curry longball. Klay needs to be getting better looks and converting, Iggy needs to get more easy baskets off the Bogut picks and most of all they need to stop letting these teams come close. The Rockets aren't in their echelon despite having Dwight and Harden, yet they have come very close these past 2 games.

Game 3 win for warriors at Houston will be the deciding game.

I'd cosign that. Not a huge Lebron fan at all but his ability to make teams contender is second to Shaq all time. Not even MJ had that kind of impact, they had to build the right team, offence for him to get to the championship level. Lebron just needs to come.

The Warriors have not come close to playing a complete game against the Rockets. Turnover after turnover, most of them of the careless unforced variety and cold outside shooting from Klay and some others. We saw this in game 2 and 3 of the Dubs-Griz series and how the teams really looked afterwards.

While Klay Thompson has played some great defense, I wonder if it would be smarter to put Iggy on Harden to free up HP for Klay on offense...

I am surprised that Klay has been the primary defender on Harden. Thought it would be Iggy right from the start.

Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler can SHUT DOWN LeBron James? What? Nobody shuts down LeBron James. You can slow him and you can limit him and you can make it tough for him. But lock him up? Your out of your mind.

I'm going to fire off an opinion that isn't all that popular in the basketball world.

If LeBron makes the Finals this year, his fifth straight.

If LeBron brings home a championship for Cleveland as the top guy, this year, next or the year after it doesn't matter.

If LeBron wins 1 more MVP.

All he needs is a couple more achievements like that and I think that puts him neck and neck with Michael Jordan and it will come down to your personal preference as to who is top.

If LeBron had played in the 60's with the big O he would have had 5 triple double seasons. Don't lose sight of the fact that you are already watching without doubt one of the 5 greatest players to ever step foot on a basketball court.

Yeah true, and they're 2-0 meaning they are extremely lucky. I guess it's testament to how good this team is compared to the rest of the NBA. Coasts in the playoffs, second option hasn't turned up all playoffs and they're still 6 games away from the chip. If they can keep their shit together and become a more refined veteran unit, I see them repeating if they prevail this year.

While I'm a Lakers guy, I like this team because I'm also a massive Bogut fan. I used to watch him on the Junior Boomers and in Utah. Back in those days he could hit the college three.. what happened lol.

Lucky? The Rockets were behind for almost the whole game today and were coming from behind the whole fourth quarter in Game 1.

They're able to keep it close or even take the lead when they go on runs, but you never get the sense that they're actually in control.

Yeah saying that Jimmy Butler and Kahwi Leonard can shut down Lebron is a bit of a reach and a stretch, but I do get where the guys saying this are coming from.

Theoretically and stats wise Jimmy Butler is the best Lebron defender, but when it comes to the best player in the world, all you could do is slow him down, and not shut him down completely and so far Butler has been the best at that. There is a big difference in slowing him down and shutting him down. Everytime Lebron faces the Bulls, Butler makes him go to work and makes him earn every basket and if you noticed Lebron didn't really have a great series against the Bulls. Looking at it from a distance people would just say "Well, Lebron just had an off-night" but really that was Jimmy Butler playing the best defense he could on the guy. In the Cavs/Bulls series it wasn't enough and the Bulls couldn't capitalize on a great opportunity they had. While all their efforts were on slowing Lebron down, you had Matt Dellavedova running all over the Bulls and draining threes all over the place.

In order to beat a Lebron team, teams need some kind of Lebron "stopper" or basically a guy who can slow him down and make him work for every shot. Kawhi Leonard was that guy last year for the Spurs. Bulls had Butler this year but couldn't capitalize on that opportunity.

No Patrick Beverley is going to do-in the Rockets in this series.

I don't expect Prigioni, Terry, et. al to "shut down" Curry, but I see these guys doing dumb shit like providing help side 'D' which leaves him wide open for 3s.

You shouldn't leave him for shit.

If better D was being played on Curry, they'd be up 2-0, both were winnable games.

FTR, I'm a fan of a timeout in that end-of-game situation; you're on the road, their crowd is incredibly fuckin' loud, I would have wanted a set play in the end there instead of just depending on Harden to make something happen on the fly.

Why teams end the games with timeouts is beyond me, especially in that situation, it's not like they carry over into the next game.

I've only recently started watching ball consistently. I was absolutely astonished they didn't use a timeout there. Fight or flight is less likely to come through than a planned play a timeout provides, 100% of the time. They didn't even have to go for a three, either.

As soon as Harden crossed the halfway point and realized a fast break point wasn't going to come, why not just call the timeout and take a breather?

Can't fault him though. He pulled big numbers, just lapsed during the most critical moment. Tough on him.

RE: The NBA Thread
Watching these two MVP candidates play is something else, I swear. Every single game will be entertaining.

But tonight, I expect the Hawks to come out with a bit more effort and play like they did in the regular season. Unlike the Warriors, they don't have a bailout player like Curry, and always have to rely on ball movement. If Carroll plays and the ball moves crisply, Hawks will split it at home. If he doesn't and the ball sticks, chances are they'll be swept, sadly enough.

Oh, and I really fuckin miss Russell Westbrook.

For DeMarre Carroll to being playing less than 48 hours after hyper-extending his knee, that is truly modern medicine, i.e. cortisone shots, at work.

It's really an indictment of the Eastern Conference more than anything. Pretty much every team would be favored to beat the current Cavs but the Trailblazers and Mavs in the West who could still easily take them to 7. The other teams would all be favored to win. I'm expecting Golden State to sweep the Cavs for the championship.
