Not with 5 NBA Finals losses. I like LeBron I think he's a monster and I want the Cavs to win this year, but to say he's the GOAT is really stretching it.

Michael Jordan 6 of 6

Kobe Bryant 5 of 7

LeBron James 3 of 8

Lebron has been to more finals than the other guys thanks to a very weak Eastern Conference in the past 10 years. But the other guys have won more finals.
The conversation is between Jordan and LeBron, Kobe had prime Shaq for 3/5 titles, so lets not act like all five of those were solely Kobe's doing. Plus I don't count the 2002 as an NBA title for the Lakers (should have lost game six in WCF to the Kings, if not for the officials rigging the game).

To LeBron's credit he drug some absolutely horrible Cavs teams to the NBA finals (see link below) and probably has one more title if Kyrie doesn't get hurt against Golden State the first go-round.

You talk about the "weak" east now, but what super teams did Jordan's bulls have to go through every year?

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/5/31/...r-rankings

If you're going to use that against Kobe than you have to use that against LeBron. Let's not forgot that he wouldn't have gotten out of the first round this year if it wasn't for the refs. If you forgot about the goal tend that didn't get called. But even after that he still is better than Kobe but doesn't have as good as a killer instinct.
Let's be honest ALL stars get calls, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, LeBron, etc, its well-known. I am highlighting G6 of the 2002 as a massive outlier and from the sound of your post, I doubt you've watched that game. Watch it and come back and tell me that 1-2 bad calls equals what happened in that game.

Apparently Chris Paul is looking for a max deal(5years and 40 to 45m per year)... He is 33. I’m guessing the rockets take a run at Lebron in the off-season, if they don’t get him they will likely try to get Paul for fewer years. They came damn close this season

People act like this series is over & is just a foregone conclusion at this point when the ball hasn't even tipped off yet in Cleveland. Role players typically play much better at home. Game 3 should hopefully be interesting.

They made sure Golden State won game one. They fucked up two major calls at the end of game one that cost the Cavs more then poor JR did.

The thing is GSW hasn’t played well, Cavs have played well for them and GSW is still up 2-0. Plus iggy is most likely coming back and people act like he’s no big deal but he makes things go so much smoother for them on both ends of the court compared to guys like Jordan Bell and Kevon Looney who have been playing more minutes than they’re used to.

I’m calling a sweep (which I bet on before the series started). I’ve been on fire with my bets these playoffs so pretty confident at this time lol

Dubs in 5 at worst.

I think Silver did a good job punishing the Sixers for making a mockery of the draft and cheapening the league.

He should have changed the lottery rules years ago, he fucked up there.

But since he can't strip the team of Embiid and others, putting a bunch of scumbag sociopaths in the front office was a decent compromise.

Nonsense. By changing the rules to allow superteams like Miami and Golden State, doing what the 76rs did was logical. They shouldnt hsve changed the rules to incentivise it! Like politicians complaining about companies exploiting tax loopholes but never closing them.

They should figure out a way to stop superteams from forming before they worry about stopping super tanking teams. At end of the day there will always be teams that suck so no sense wasting time on them.

RE: The NBA Thread
Now I want the Cavs to win three straight, and then I want LeBron to be scoreless in the final game, but wait, JR Smith is in hero mode. Every time the Warriors seem about to pull away, he seems to make an amazing shot or defensive play.

Last possession, Cavs down by one with the ball, only a few seconds left on the clock, inbounded to LeBron who is thirty feet away from the basket with three defenders hanging all over him, but wait, suddenly JR Smith is all alone under the basket and the Warriors fail to see him, a perfect end has been written, redemption for the comeback kid, the MVP of this, the final game.

Everyone on the Cavs is yelling at LeBron to pass the ball and making the same face at him he made at Smith when he messed up. LeBron looks straight at Smith, his face screws up like he ate a lemon, and he launches an off balance thirty footer.

Airball!

Steph Curry is running to the basket for the rebound, the ball hits him on top of the head, the ball pops up, the buzzer sounds, and the ball falls through the net for two.

Cavs win the championship.

That is how I want the series to go.

Then again, I have been spending all week trying to figure out a way for this series to go where everybody loses.

Long term, if the Sixers weren't punished for making it completely obvious they wanted to suck, you would have 10+ teams competing to be the most horrible (and unwatchable) every year.

And that's the only way in the current NBA to compete. Either you have star players and compete, or you're a mid-level team that will never get out.

What the 6'ers did is play the game. Aim to draft top 3 and grab star players.

Look at the crap shoot of players outside of the top 3. Donovin Mitchell it a super exception.

The best chance of winning is to tank and grab a superstar. That's the facts Jack.

Here's what I think the NBA should do.

Option 1: Contract the league by 15 teams. Cut the league in half and re-allocate those players. Much less parity, and much more competition.

Option 2: Two leagues. One for the NBA, and one for a true development league. Top teams from previous year compete in a different league than the bottom tier teams.

----------

The way the league is set up right now is bullshit. If you're a team like Detroit, what can you do to compete for a Ring? Try and sign a max level player? Who's going to sign in Detroit?

The only way that happens is if you have a superstar already and have a ton of cap space. That's it. Otherwise top players are going to sign with LA, Miami, NY, etc. Even NY can't get players because they don't have any superstars. GS is able to because they have stars.

It's that simple.

I agree what Philly did was smart, but 10 teams doing it everyone loses money (revenue sharing) former die hard fans tune out etc.

I agree that the top of the league (the fact only 1-4 teams have any chance, going on 10 years) is a much worse problem than the bottom.

True, but aren't all the franchises in on revenue sharing the new TV deal pie?

Yes, if teams are competing to suck, every team loses money.

I don't care if the NBA loses money (I'd probably celebrate if they lost a few billion) I'm just saying there's no way the league is allowing that to happen.

My issue with the Philly tank is that maybe 20 teams could have used those picks, but most try to give the fans at least a little entertainment.

My solution would be to only allow a team in the lottery for one year at a time (they can be back in 2 years) or another rule change.

Yeah Repo I'll have to concede on this argument.

Ultimately the NBA needs to do something where maybe 10 teams have a shot at the title. This is probably the worst era in NBA history in most ways.

RE: The NBA Thread
The worst teams need to be able to draft the top players. This is actually what keeps the league competitive. I can't imagine the imbalance without it. There are a bunch of teams of course who keep screwing it up.

The sixers tanked because they were in the worst possible situation. Remember Hinkie came after the Bynum trade. They had traded two future firsts. They lost Igou, Vucevic and Mo Harkless. They basically had a bunch of players who were 25 but still sucked. They had used all their salary cap as well. Jrue Holiday has been an injury problem up until this year. What else were they suppose. Win 30 games with Evan Turner Thad Young?

It's also not the sixers fault that players are on guaranteed contracts which makes it difficult to rebuild. Nor that the teams share revenue, which means they pay into the pot when they're good.

Every championship is full of top 10 picks too. You basically can't win without them. I think the Spurs are the exception when Duncan was at the end of his career.

Shaq 1,Kobe
Wade 7 Shaq
Duncan 1
Kobe 13(high school) Gasol 3
Billups 4 Rip 7 shhed 5, Wallace n/a
Garnett 5 Allen 5 Pierce 10
Lebron 1 Wade 7 Bosh 4
Lebron 1 kyrie 1 love 5( they traded two 1s for him)
Jordan 3
Hakeem 1
Isiah 2
Bird 6(only cuz he entered the draft before he finished playing college) mchale 3
Magic 1, Kareem 1
Durant 2 Curry 7
Curry 7 Thompson 9
Dirk 9 (Kidd 2 Chandler 2, Marion 9, terry 10)

The 83 sixers were the exception mostly because Moses was the first player out of high school and Dr J. Went to the ABA.

The evidence is clear. Without top picks, your team sucks.

If the warriors stay healthy, I’m guessing they get even more rings. They will be able to use Larry bird rights to keep klay Thompson even if they give a max deal to Durant. They will be over the luxury tax threshold but I’m guessing so long as they keep winning championships they will keep spending to keep the team together

Yeah. A Philly vs. Golden State Finals series might be even more fun than this sorry Cleveland matchup. Or Boston vs. Golden State. Don't count Houston out yet either out West.
