I have no idea why you thought they wouldn't be. Got rid of a net negative player and added one of the very best players in the league. Got the best wing defender since Jordan and Pippen for a liability on that end and upgraded on the offensive end significantly also and were already a very decent side despite DeRozan.

Question is, does Kawhi leave after the season ends? I would wager my money that he does. It will end up being an expensive 1-year rental and they won't even win the east (this is Boston's year).

Also this shows that he probably wasn't as injured as he claimed he was, and probably could have played the final quarter of last season with the spurs.

I'm enjoying this Lakers train wreck. Nobody on the team other than Lebron can shoot, and they get wrecked inside and on the boards when McGee isn't playing.

Lebrons carrying extra muscle up top and they are running him ragged playing at the super fast pace. Will he melt down?

Will the lakers even make the playoffs? In a normal year, no, because Lebron doesn't start playing hard until march.

I didnt think the Raptors had the supporting cast for Kawhi to contend with a team like Boston. Now it's looking like the East will be very competitive between both of those teams and the Bucks. I'm rooting for Dante Divincenzo too, hope he develops as a good asset for the Bucks, I think he was a steal in the draft

Luke Waltons rotations are killing the Lakers. He'll probably be fired before the year is done.

RE: The NBA Thread
Where does Kahi go though?

People say he will leave but to where? Not every team can pay him max money and the Raptors can pay him upwards of 30 million more than everyone else.

LA hype has muted... Why go be Lebron's bitch in a (still) stacked West, where Golden State players are, will be crazy enough to take less money to keep the winning going? Clippers just have Doc and money, they won't ever win anything.

Raptors are well positioned to make the Finals and that is an easy selling prize to Kawhi. If the Raptors make the final he will stay. The hype on Boston is from a young group that peaked last season, I argue that with the addition of Hayward and Irving full-time it slows down the team. Boston also still has issues scoring buckets in a year where the NBA is seeing record offence across the league. With not enough ball to go around the issue becomes if Boston can actually maximize their personal they have - not sure as of yet. I am a Raptors fan but I legitimately believe we match up better with Boston. Nobody on the Celtics roster matches up bad with Toronto and we still have the best player out of the two in Kawahi and the in the NBA, historically, the team with the best player on the floor wins in the playoffs. I am more scared of the Bucks right now because Giannas can go off in a 2-3 game sequence and push your team to a 7th game where it can be a toss-up. Raptors, as of right now, have the best player in the conference, the best PG in the conference, and (arguably) the best bench in the conference. Not sure how we don't make the Finals aside from falling prey to our playoff demons.

Philly has been overrated since they lost all their shooting. It was the outside wing shooting that made them deadly, not Embiid or Simmons. The truth is that Embiid and Simmons don't actually make each other better and actually don't have play styles that compliment each other. They both play on islands and just distribute when plays break down. When the Sixers had great shooting it worked out well, but now, they are predictable and easy to defend against.

Simmons with a whole year of tape on him now is falling prey to Coaches and defences that have started up to his play style. The man will never reach his potential until he gets a jump shot. It does not matter his ability on the ball with his speed as you can always defend against that as he has nothing else to offer on the court aside from his passing ability. It is easy to make life hard for a guard who has no intention to shoot.

RE: The NBA Thread
Fultz starting is the bigger issue for the Sixers, imo. If they'd use him off the bench and start Redick instead that would fix a lot of their issues. They're not there yet though either.

Celtics is an interesting collection of talent but they don't match up great with the Raptors as they can attack Irving's mostly pathetic defense and have very good wing defenders to throw at the Celtics scorers.

Not sure on Leonard next year, still think the Lakers is the obvious choice when everything is considered but Toronto certainly have a chance and they honestly didn't give up much to get him so it's worth the punt for them. Clippers make no sense, terrible coach, terrible organisation, terrible roster, basically just have money and LA as their selling point which really the Lakers can out sell them on both of those anyway.

He'll probably just join the Warriors though...

RE: The NBA Thread
Not sure how dominant Kawahi wants to go play with Lebron, they both essentially use the same space on the court to operate. Lebron is "flexible" but only when it's helps HIS game. He has only worked well with those who can operate on a island outside of the res of the team her operates on his system.

Lebron is predictable in that he wants a slashing guard that can create his own shots - Wade and Kyrie. The most obvious choice for who goes to LA is Lillard who would compliment Lebron VERY well and is burning out in Portland that will see big changes with new ownership after the passing of Paul Allen. Also, if Klay Thompson heads over that with Ingram rounds out a very solid lineup.

If Pelicans are out of the playoff picture by All star break guaranteed AD is going to lakers..especially after he fired his agent and signed with lebrons agency before the season started. Lebron and AD on the same team would challenge the warriors imo.

The current Laker's roster are not constructed to compete in the west, for instance they don't have any consistent three point shooters that can make contested shots. Caldwell-pope is streaky, he's shooting 3's at a dismall 22%, thus supposedly fill that missing hole.

Lonzo, Rondo, Kuzma, Hart can't shoot three's consistently and do not put any fear into defenders. There meant to score off of turn overs and fast breaks.

However, the only bright spot ironically is Javale McGee

RE: The NBA Thread
Lakers will be fine. Every LeBron team stumbles through the first 20-30 games (or more) of the year before figuring it out, and even moreso his new teams. Anyone who has played the game knows that it takes a long time to develop that chemistry on the court, especially with a dominant player like LeBron.

Lakers are #19 in the league when it comes to 3 pt shooting. A little below average. All of this stuff about the team not being able to shoot is overstated and even moreso when you consider that they lead the league in scoring in the paint. Hart, Ingram and Lonzo all shoot over 40% from three right now and Kuzma is averaging 19 a game.

They are #7 in offensive efficiency which is the most important metric for offense. They will be fine but they are gonna need a while to get it together, I still have them getting to the second round in the west at worst if anyone like kosko wants to get beat on a bet again. And just like I called LBJ to LA last year, I fully expect them to sign a top FA next summer.

On another note, I'm very interested to see how Doncic's career turns out. He looks a bit out of shape and slow-footed, but damn this guy is crafty and plays like a ten-year vet despite being like 19 years old. Also has size and shooting. Not sure how great he will be but he has a very unique game.

Also to add, Derozen has fared very well in SA with the Spurs. He has switched from being overly aggressive in hunting for fouls to become a core playmaker and ball distributor in the Spurs system. He is averaging career high for assists and his advanced stats are looking better. He is being put in better positions in the Spurs systems and they are letting have free reign to take the important shots when needed.

Yeah, he's been good for them as well, still a very ordinary defender but he's been a lot better for them on that end and he's playing even better on offense with more ball handling responsibility.

Lakers or Philly could offer him 30 million per year. Most teams(about 2/3rds of the league) are already at or over the luxury tax threshold.

Some teams, like the warriors will go well over the luxury tax to sign their own players, and even pay a repeater tax for doing so on consecutive years. But you can only go over the tax threshold to resign your own players, you can't bring in free agents if you are over the tax threshold.

With the luxury tax, it will raise their salary costs to over 300 million per year. They will have to raise ticket prices to some insane amount. I was curious so I checked, it's only 45$ to 65$ for a ticket to a regular season game for nosebleed, 1000$+ for courtside. I'm guessing they will try to double that. They may keep Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant this year, but next year would be Draymond Green's last. Not sure how they can keep everyone realistically.

No Way Denver beats a healthy GSW unless Draymond and KD keep fighting.

Jokic is playing great ball. Kawhi Leonard will be a top candidate if the raptors finish 1st in the east.

Props go to Kemba Walker for getting 60 points, the first 60 point game since James Harden back in January.

This is likely to be one of the best games of the season so far. Between games like this and the rumoured KD & Draymond beef, the regular season is going to be an interesting one to say the least.

Nothing's going to happen with this so called beef with the Warriors. People just want there to be something going on because it gives other teams more than a 0% chance of winning it all. Nothing to see. Warriors win it all again.

This beef will either bring them together or make them hit a wall. One thing that annoyed me is all The Ringer hype boy types shaming Green. Green is one of the alpha dogs of the team and people seem to forget the man is little the oil of the Warriors engine. The team can't win easy she has gone and with Steph gone you see then on thier largest loosing streak in thier era at the moment. Where is elite KD to get them thier wins? Green was right in saying that KD is just a fuck boy and they can win without him.

Green can be a troll but he is underrated for what he does. He is the oil of that system and is what makes it flow to open up the spacing for Steph and Klay. He is the floor general that shifts GSW clunky big men into the right spaces to get good screens going. He sets plays. Does the dirty work. They are lost out there without him and see easy to defend bans shut down.
