RE: The NBA Thread
LeBron changed teams in 2010, 2014, and 2018 and made the finals 8 straight years.

Kawai didn’t want to stay in Spurs system - lost trust of the organization and wanted to go home.

Paul George didn’t want to play with Westbrook, much like KD - RW being the Evil Iverson.

Anthony Davis - look, no one wants to go play for the Pelicans - I don’t even want them in the league.

It’s more odd in today’s NBA for superstars to stay in one place - like a John Wall, Russel Westbrook - and not win a championship year after year.

Kyrie is not a good leader - too moody for one - and must play the Pippen role to another’s Jordan (LeBron/KD) - he knows he made a mistake going to Boston to be the man.

I don’t think Harden cares about winning. Like all these guys, they’re all different, Harden especially (+ he’s a lefty!)

I spent most of the 80's hating Larry Bird too much to remember how good he was. Plus you just didn't get to see that many games on TV.

This passing is mind bending, particularly the slap passes, which everyone was taught in high school, but no one wanted to do because they wanted to hang on to the ball.

I am coming to love this guy.

Well, the NBA got woke. They are putting all WNBA teams in 2k20. I wonder if they will be realistic, meaning the women's team loses by 50 every time.

Realistically not one wnba player should be above 80 overall, but them soy boys can't help it.

In close he can shoot a scoop shot, a finger roll, a lay up, jumper, jump hook, or dunk with either hand. If they back off or can out jump him, he fades back as far as he needs to and hits the jumper. They hardly took 3's back then but he could hit them at will.

This is with people knocking the shit out of him.

He could average 40 a game today.

The nba men need to say stop to these leeches. That is the wnba. What is it they are losing. $10 million a year for the last few years. Putting them in a game (nba 2k) is just taking money out of yours. Splitting up the pot even more.

Where is the strong independent woman moniker? i don't need no man. GTFOH with that nonsense.

RE: The NBA Thread
If NBA2K wants to go woke/broke let them - now it's loot crates, the WNBA, and the same game every year.

They had good games in years past (NBA 2K, NBA 2K5, NBA 2K11/12) but 2K went and turned themselves into the next EA.

Only basketball game you need is NBA Jam.

Larry Bird is easily top ten all time player. You could put together an argument for top 5

I can see the argument for him over Magic Johnson (who played with Kareem, a top 5 all time player) who'd I'd bump out of the top 5 for Bird .

Larry Bird's best teammate was Kevin McHale, and I could name at least 40 players better than McHale.

...Magic was also (probably) a butt-pumper.

What's interesting is the league is going to make a lot less money when their TV contract with ESPN expires. ESPN paid way too much for the rights to broadcast their games. The league will take another hit when Lebron James retires. So for how much longer are they going to subsidize the WNBA?

Another factor to consider is that TNT also pays great money to broadcast games.

Globally? Chinese companies pay f**k ton to air NBA games as well. There's a reason why these players will go on Asia tours during the offseason because of how much money Asian markets pour into the NBA.

NBA is much more popular in Europe these days than it used to be as well.

Its crazy to think how there used to be no cable networks, we could watch about one or 2 games per week tops(in the 1980s).

With espn, tnt and other networks airing games all the time, it's nuts. It's no wonder the players make a lot more now.

Cousins out for the season. I know the lakers got him cheap so it’s not a huge loss but they would have liked to have got minutes out of him

The Lakers will be impacted by this to an extent as Anthony Davis is too stubborn to play center which would have been the natural course with this injury. LeBron is too stubborn to play PF also as the Lakers could put out a much smaller line up that could, in theory, rival what the "death lineup" did to others with GSW. Vogel will be forced to make a chicken salad with chicken shit here as they have zero depth at center now unless the sign a body off the street.

Cousins provided them with the ability to run the lineups the players wanted but with him gone.. watch the Lakers work extra hard just to get a 5th or 6th seed. I'm not sold they will be anything more with such thin depth and suspect player arrangements.

I don't see what's the problem with Javale Mcgee starting at the 5 position. He had his best career game last year putting up 33pts, 20rbs, and 6blks. The Lakers will be fine and easily top 4 in the West.

Cousins is a liability and should either lose weight or retire. His body can't take all that physicality no more.

McGee dosn't have endurance to last a full season plus an extended playoff run. His severe asthma has been a hurdle for him his whole career and one of the reasons he has never strung together consistent performance over long period.

When I was a kid I rooted for the Lakers and hated the Celtics.

You only saw them on TV a couple times a year.

Youtube has convinced me I was rooting for the wrong team.

Their passing mentality was like art.

Totally forgot about Isaiah Thomas.

Taking over a finals game with severely sprained ankle was insane. 25 points in a single quarter on one leg.

Great mini-doc of one of the most undeservedly forgotten Golden State Warriors of all time. He was like a mini white Barkley in his day.

This could be one of the more exciting years. Half of the teams that think they can win the title wolnt get out of the second round.

Denver vs Brooklyn is a hell of a hot take.

Denver needs some of its players to make a leap, or else they are just a regular season powerhouse.

I also think Brooklyn isn't going anywhere with KD out for the season. At least, Brooklyn ought to hope that KD is out for the season, since KD has a history of twice trying to come back from bad injuries too soon, resulting in much worse injuries.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Toronto will have the best regular season w/l record.

I have Brooklyn in the Finals, if KD comes back and is fully healthy. Milwaukee and Philly are chokers in the playoffs. Toronto without Kawhi won't sniff the finals again next year...and I'm saying that as a Raptors fan. I'm a big fan of Marc Gasol tho.

Denver was 1 game away from making the WCF; and if that happened had a shot to beat the Warriors without KD. I agree some of Denver's players need to make that next step. I expect Jamal Murray to have a big season; and Michael Porter Jr. to be a Rookie of the Year candidate.

Speaking of Denver, NBA superstar Nikola Jokic's brother arrested on suspicion of assault for allegedly choking, pushing woman:

Quote:The brother of Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was arrested for allegedly choking and pushing a woman.

Strahinja Jokic, 37, had been drinking Thursday night and was with a woman in a Denver apartment, according to a police probable cause statement obtained by The Denver Post. The woman tried to leave the apartment, but Jokic shoved her and wouldn’t let her leave, the document said.

The woman then went to the balcony to yell for help, but Jokic grabbed her and choked her, according to police. He told the woman that he would choke her “until she fell asleep,” the document said.

The woman tried to call 911, but Jokic took away her phone. She was able to use a computer to send a message to someone she knew — that person then called police, the probable cause statement said.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of second-degree assault, a felony, and two misdemeanors, false imprisonment and obstruction of phone service, against Jokic, spokeswoman Carolyn Tyler said.

Strahinja and Nemanja Jokic — the older brothers of the Nuggets star center — have been known to attend many of their younger brother’s games. Strahinja Jokic once became so angry at a referee that he had to be restrained by a security guard.

Hope this won't affect the Joker's MVP bid this upcoming season.

Nice writeup but to be fair it is the pre-season that starts shortly. Regular season isn't until later in October. Like the NFL, it is difficult to take the NBA pre-season too seriously lol.
