Quote:Nice writeup but to be fair it is the pre-season that starts shortly. Regular season isn't until later in October. Like the NFL, it is difficult to take the NBA pre-season too seriously lol.

Denver Nuggets 2020 NBA Champions. Nikola Jokic MVP. Book it.

Great anecdote by Bird at 2:00 about the importance of winning and the mentality of elite players.

Anyone remember David Thompson? 6 footer with the highest vertical in the 70's. 48 running, 41 standing.

Supposedly he could hold a basketball in the crook of his elbow, jump over the rim, and punch it through with his other fist.

No one talks about him anymore.

Kyrie Irving scores 50 and the Nets still lose. This will be the theme of the season as the Nets underperform and miss the playoffs.

Kyrie certainly put up some phenomenal numbers. Great comeback against the T-Wolves & great game. Too bad they fell short.

Michael Porter Jr. is supposed to be the next Kevin Durant

With Zion injured, the Rookie of the Year field is wide open, should be exciting

The Suns, T-Wolves, Celtics and Miami Heat have been my surprise teams so far

Disappointing teams: Nuggets and Clippers

Meet expectations so far: Sixers and Raptors

I think Luka Doncic will be an all-star this year, he and KP form a dynamic duo in Dallas they look good so far thru 6-7 games

RE: The NBA Thread
This Heat team is really fun to watch this year. They are one superstar away from competing seriously.

They put up a 42 point lead on the Rockets in the first quarter yesterday (Russel Westbrook put up a -46).

So far, the leading scorer on the team is 24 year old rookie Kendrick Nunn, who went bucket for bucket against James Harden in the preseason.

Nunn was kicked out of school and drummed out of a chance to make it into the league because of domestic violence. Apparently, he was having an argument with his girlfriend. When she took his car keys and wouldn't give them back, he threw his drink on her. Congrats to Nunn for staying out of trouble since then and for working his way through the G league and into the league.

Wow. Who is this Luka Dončić kid? I didn't watch a lot of basketball last season but Luka is a beast.

He is averaging 28 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and is shooting 47% from the field this season. He is a nightmare to guard and he has a lot of swag for a European born player. The crazy thing about him is that he is a 6'7" point guard and is only 20 years old.

If Dallas ever gets another quality player to play with him and Porzingis, Dallas is going to be very dangerous.

I agree. Plus with this trio at the core in a weak conference, you're bound to win a few ballgames & possibly crack into the playoffs. Justise Winslow, Goran Dragic & Jimmy Butler. Dion Waiters is a veteran that still puts up good numbers too.

Eric Spolstra is the best coach in basketball IMO. Give him any bit of talent and you'll get a top tier team.

I'm a Luka fan because he was underrated even though it was obvious he was going to be a talent in the league.

I'm over AAU style American player development where you get goofy cyborgs like Zion who are super athletes but can barley shoot a damn basketball. Over in Europe, young talent plays early in the league against adult talent and IMO this forces pure development with a focus on Fundamentals. Luka's defense sucks but his offence and vision touch is next level and he still...STILL.. has room to improve as his body is slowly catching up to his game. He will be an MVP candidate in 3-4 years. International shift in basketball coming with elite men from abroad (Ginnias, Jokic, Sikiam, Luka).

RE: The NBA Thread
I totally agree Kosko. Another example of this is RJ Barrett. Many thought that he was good enough to be drafted #1 ahead of Zion but he cannot hit a jump shot to save his life. He is also shooting 46% from the foul line, which is unacceptable for a "shooting" guard. He will get better but maybe he should've stayed at Duke and perfected his skills.

As Charles Barkley stated a few years back, the draft was designed to help bad teams become more competitive. RJ is good but the Knicks are last in FT% and RJ isn't helping that.

As for Luka, I will keep my eye on him. He will definitely be an MVP candidate soon.
