Seriously though, your team has over-achieved for 2 seasons now and you should be happy of the job Thibs has done. It's hard to do anything when you have $20 million in cap space riding the bench. If Rose comes back healthy and you get Melo, I think you guys beat the Heat next year.

why don't you trade rose for a known quantity, like rondo? I know rose is a great player, but if you value him accurately you have to factor in probability, and there is a not-insignificant probability that he will come back not as good as before, or that he will re-injure himself.

There are many reasons behind trading Rose not even being an option. He's from Chicago, won an MVP in 2011, with him the Bulls were the #1 seed in 2011 and 2012, and the people there love him for the most part. More importantly, who do you think is going to trade for a guy with 3 years $60 million on the contract and he hasn't played in 2 years (minus the few games he played this year)? No one. At this point Rose has the worst contract in the NBA ahead of Amare since Amare's contract is in the last year now and can be used by a rebuilding team to clear cap space.

Melo to the Bulls would make them a powerhouse IMO but I am not sure what are the chances of that happening with Phil in NY now.

Coaches who think they may be on the hot seat tend to stray from situations that would make them open to criticism. Of course in doing this they make it more likely there team will lose and they will in turn will get fired. So Mchale rolls the ball out and calls only the most defensible and obvious of plays. Nothing more overrated than hero ball. Having said that it was a great game to see live. Houston is always rocking during the playoffs.

Howard does, Lin tries (has some limitations)

but Harden and Parsons are atrocious - they dont even try !!!

and Houston has no where to go if its best perimeter player doesnt play D - especially at 2 guard.

As a Bulls fan you should feel lucky that your team is even in the playoffs with no real #1 offensive star.....or even a real #2 for that matter.

Although tempting to consider because of his offense, Melo to the Bulls wouldn't work unless he makes a concerted effort on "D". He's a liability. Love his game every since he took the 'Cuse to the NCAA title. Straight baller but unlike college, they can't "hide" you on defense in the pro's.

That's not true anymore, Melo has become an average defender over the last two years. I am not even a Melo fan but he isn't the liability on defense he used to be in Denver. His rebounding has also improved and he is one of the best rebounders for his position in the game now. Plus, Thibs is a genius and Melo has a high basketball IQ, he can definitely learn the system to the point where he can be a net contributor on the defensive end.

Agreed Houston is awful at defense. Beverly and Howard are the only net positives on defense that Houston has. Lin is average at best I think Chandler is below average. Howard is great at post defense and one of the best at rim protection but he struggles at knowing how to read the pick and roll. He is constantly getting confused as to whether to hedge or switch and pick and pop players (ala Dirk LA) tend to exploit this. Harden is a whole other level of bad at defense. Im too lazy to look it up but there are a couple compilations of him making about every mistake possible on defense. Here is to hoping the D looks a little better this evening.

That was a great documentary, my favorite of the 30 for 30 stuff. I have a lot of respect for Isiah and Joe D, but mostly watching that made me want to punch Laimbeer in the face.

Can Dallas pull off the upset? They have won 6.5 of the 8 quarters played so far. They should be kicking themselves they're not up 2-0, as they choked in Game 1. They have Dirk, who on his best nights is still a Top 10 guy, they have a bunch of veterans with tons of playoff experience, and with Carlisle, they have the second-best coach in the League after Popovich. They are the rare team that can match the Spurs in terms of coaching and experience, or at least come close.

I think there is a much higher probability of this happening than Spurs fans or casual basketball fans want to admit. Switching all the pick and rolls has really bothered San Antonio. Its basically taken the Spurs role players out of the game. Tony needs to score 20 in the paint if there going to let Dirk switch on every pick and roll. There are some weird match ups at play as well, for some reason even though Devin Harris is a borderline NBA player at this point he has always played well vs Tony. It looks like its gonna be a good series. Im gonna try to score some good tickets to game 5 in San Antonio.

MAVS have 5 former all stars (Dirk, VC, Harris, Ellis, Marion) and some of them are finally healthy after playing under their potential the last couple of years (Dirk, Harris). The MAVS are the Z warriors who have been hiding their power level from the Saiyan scouters.

So happy that Miami is in the East while the Spurs/OKC/Clips/Portland/Grizz/Dallas beat-up each other Banana.

They are giving the Spurs mid-range jumpers and trying to take away 3's and layups.

I didn't think Dallas had a chance coming into this series, even though they're stronger than a typical 8 seed. Getting a split in San Antonio was not that surprising to me, I thought with Dirk and Carlisle they would avoid the sweep. But they should be up 2-0. They have been way better than the Spurs so far.

It would be dumb to dismiss the Spurs, though. They usually get it together and figure it out. This series has a similar feel so far to the Spurs-Warriors series from last year.

Lol I was going to put the Dubs but with no Bogut I think Clips win in 5-6 and Rockets are a fraud team. They have been exposed. I am not going to sit here and pretend I knew they were going to lose since I had them winning in 6 but I have been skeptical of their "3s and layups" only offense since it doesn't work when the 3s stop falling. In the regular season it was obvious to me that their offense wouldn't translate to the playoffs and thought that they would be a 2nd round exit but it's just their luck that Aldridge is playing like the best player in the world right now (he's bound to cool-off at some point but through the first 2 games he has absolutely been the best player in the playoffs).

The irony is quite delicious seeing as how Aldridge is killing a Morey team from the mid-range when he has designed his Rockets team and even his D-League affiliate team to spam the 3 point line, eliminate the mid-range J and go inside occasionally.

RE: The NBA Thread
But the West "beating each other up" has been a story EVERY year for EVER.

I still remember the West winning a bunch of championships.

If the Spurs best the Mavs their second round will be EASIER. Except for the Thunder, their Conference finals matchup will also be easier. The Mavs are coming together nicely, and I think they can play even better, if they mesh and run plays better. There was still too much messy ISO play.

I normally root for the Lakers, but the teams I'm going to really root for right now are the Mavs in the West, and the Nets in the East. Both teams are underrated and can make some noise against the top dog Spurs and Heat.

You don't get there till you get there
