I still remember the West winning a bunch of championships.

The West beating each other up angle only works when the East has premier teams/players who are comparable to and/or better than their Western counterparts. After MJ retired in 98 the balance of power shifted between the two conferences. In the West you had KG, Duncan, Dirk, Shaq/Kobe and the East had AI/Kidd. Look at the last 5-7 years. LeBron is now in his prime and has a good team around him. Celtics won in 08 with their own Big 3 and Wade and Shaq won in 06.

That's why this year the West tiring each other out is a legitimate story and I am glad that Miami is in the East.

Looks like Donald Sterling didn't read Roosh's announcement on race trolling.

I'm shocked that people are shocked. I thought it was pretty well known how Sterling gets down.

Donald Sterling may be a racist fuck and a millionaire, but someone should point him towards this forum and some Patrice O'Neal. Idiot needs to up his bitch management game.

Dude says 'you're making no valid points,' and he still proceeded to dig a deeper grave. I got 6th grade flashbacks from that argument.

RE: The NBA Thread
Anybody who follows Clipper ball knows this cat has a long, sordid of all sorts of controversial opinions.

However, what we see is the power we shouldn't afford media. ESPN is flooded with comments with white folks saying, "Look at me, I'm not racist!" or black folk with needlessly self-righteous and aggrieved comments liked by nervous whites that essentially amount to, "Racism is wrong" and its obvious they think its a difficult stand to take - which it isn't.

If you truly believe racism is a serious issue in America, you shouldn't be surprised by this. A powerful man doesn't like minorities? No shit. Somebody doesn't amass serious amounts of cash because he was volunteering at the fucking soup kitchen, pouring beef barley soup with rye bread to poor black youth.

We need to stop pretending that the richest of rich people are nice or good people or should be. I assume rich people are assholes because the psychology that propels somebody to achieve such dizzingly heights rarely is healthy. Should they be nice? Sure, but that sentiment is worthless because it can't change anything, much less somebody who could have your ankles in concrete at the bottom of lake by midnight. You know these guys rule the world, right?

What I think this shows is the irrational rage of Americans. We want to be powerful and rich like him, but instead of appreciating the work that the rich put into obtaining and preserving wealth, we ruthless devalue them and pretend they lucked into it. We are essentially trolling ourselves by selling ourselves myths about power and the people who have it. This isn't the 1850's, any social duty to the lower classes for the rich has been drained away generations ago. God is dead.

Finally, we are presented with yet another so-called "teachable moment" that apparently the lesson is punitive. Look at it from his perspective, a man who clearly has no love for blacks. He is going to see parades of black men and women condemning him and calling for censure, public ridicule and potential divestment of his ownership of the Clippers. If you think is going to do anything else BUT cause him to dig in his heels psychologically for racism you are a fool and a rube.

You catch more flies with honey than shit. You want this guy to be a better person? Magic shouldn't have said he was going to try to punch a rich man right in his most prized possession -- his money -- he should have given him a personal call. Getting angry over racism is one thing but to pretend you can cure it with fire and brimstone is madness.

However, this is a trick. This isn't about black people or racism, this about burning off rage at people whose lives we think we should be living. A rich old guy banging hot trim? Always be careful about what you admit makes you experience rage. Racism is just a prop to express displeasure at rich people we simultaneously envy but devalue. It's madness and it's killing this country, not racism.

Really?? It seems like Sterling has a troubled track record, which includes a $2.73 million settlement in a racial discrimination case from 2005.

RE: The NBA Thread
Here's a question to you guys:
What would you do, regardless of whether black or white, if you were one of the Clipper players?
Would you still turn up to play for this animal?

I realize they are professionals and who have a lot at stake. They have a great team who can go far in the playoffs. Yet, how do you keep your motivation as a Clipper when you have such a racist owner?

Would you refuse to play and do a mutiny of a kind? Or would you keep going and at the end of the season, demand to be transferred elsewhere?

Also, it's going to be interesting as to how the league will react to that. There clearly is no place for someone as retarded as that as an NBA owner. Does the NBA have the power to take the franchise away from him? Or at least put a lot of pressure so that he sells the team?

I would go out and do what I get paid to do. If you play for the Clippers, you probably already know the owner's track record, or you should.

Believe it or not, Donald Sterling, embattled owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, is set to receive another Lifetime Achievement Award on May 15 from the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary at the downtown Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

All I know is Doc Rivers and CP3 willingly signed contracts with the Clippers knowing full well what kind of dude Sterling is. They should drop the "I'm outraged" act.

CP3 made it clear he would rather play for Sterling that Mark Cuban. Fuck him.

I honestly think they didn't expect this from Dallas. They should know better - Carlisle and Dirk together are never going to be an easy out.

I'm not saying he isn't a racist or a bad person because he has quite a track record of bad behavior but that is a side issue here. Look at all the people commenting on ESPN via Facebook. It's a deluge of fools looking to either prove they are not racists (whites) or they are against racism (everybody). Who the hell gets away with being pro-racism towards blacks in media? You can't get away with such naked displays these days.

We have a false dichotomy presented, in which you are either a sick, depraved racist or free and clear of racial judgment or resentment. We all *know* that isn't true. Emotions and estimations of races run the gamut from blind hatred to unabashed love.

Here, we are presented with an easy target: Who the hell is going to publically support this man?

Further, we wouldn't get upset if some janitor who works for the Clippers thinks all black folk are poorly educated chimps. Should that guy lose his job? We really wouldn't care because his life isn't enviable. Some dude who mops the showers after the players wash up after a game is not a glamorous life. Him losing his job is either "Who gives a fuck?" or we feel bad because we feel superior towards that janitor.

Also, it should be unsettling to see all these folks like Barkley adding all these superlatives and qualifiers on racism. Consider: is there such a thing as an evil rapist? No, because there is no such thing as a good rapist. There is no such thing as an evil racist, an ignorant, terrible, or backwards racist. There is ONLY being a racist. That, in and of itself, is a sufficient word to describe somebody who feels other races are inferior to other races.

Deep down, these folks in media and FB commenters on ESPN are showing off -- that deep down -- they feel they are superior or inferior to other races because of their race, that they are a racist. The false dichotomy is a way of soothing over egos that couldn't handle being what they supposedly hate, so we get black and white views of others and ourselves. Since this is about ourselves and our self image, we really only get angry over people we aspire to be: The rich owner and not the janitor with a yellow mop bucket.

I can't speak for how others feel. I think the difference is that the Janitor is powerless. Racism is an economic tool and Sterling is in a position of power where he can make decisions that affect people's lives. The Janitor is not in such a position.

I would short the Clippers to win the title at any amount. Considering the amount of influence officials have on an NBA game, you'd think the NBA would exert any force to keep Donald Sterling from putting his hands on the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

He agreed to not attend games indefinitely. If the Clippers were to win, somebody else would preside over the trophy ceremony.
