Not even sure what this means, especially coming from a Canadian. Perfect time to drop this video though.

Just saw this video. Sorry for my ignorance but what exactly does being on the "coon train" mean? I saw Kobe's face along with Stephen A. Smith's. Can someone please elaborate on this? And how does this relate to Sterling's comments?

Of all the first round upsets or potential upsets though, the Spurs are not necessarily underperforming. The Mavs really are THAT good. Guys getting healthy at the right time.

What about that Monta Ellis? He's changed man.

I wouldn't say changed. He just doesn't have to be The Guy any more. I play a lot of pick-up hoops, and I know that I play best when I am the second or third option. That is when I find my best rhythm. I have a feeling Monta is the same way.

Before the Mavs, he was known as a selfish volume shooter. And he was on bad teams where was forced to be the #1 option. Someone on a bad team has to score the points.

But the thing is, if you're on an NBA roster, you're one of the top 360-450 players in the world. There really aren't any bad players in the NBA, just bad situations that don't fully utilize a player's talent in the right way. On the Mavs, playing alongside Dirk opens up the floor for him and defenses can't key on him like they did in Golden State and Milwaukee. Also, he's playing for a coach that has a system and is great at adjusting to the talent that he has and getting the most out of players.

He has certainly matured as a player.

He has averaged over 19 points a game for the past 7 seasons, he could always score the ball. Where he has improved is in his shot selection and willingness to pass.

His real name is Donald Tokowitz.

He has been strange for a long time. He doesn't like Black people but he bought an NBA team and dates a Black woman. Supposedly, he has also donated a lot of money to the Democratic Party.

Seems kind of crazy to me.

WHOOOOA… Sterling banned! $2.5 M fine! Goddamn.

Adam Silver with the BANHAMMER!!!!

More seriously, smart move… didn't 'force the sale of the team,' but banned him from everything in the NBA.

I wonder if the owners will give the 3/4 vote required to force the sale.

He dosnt like Hispanics or Whites either. He openly dissed having the pay "white ball players so much money" as he views them lesser to black ball players. He didn't want to pay JJ Reddic and tried to weasel out of doing so.

Typical racist rich Jooish guy. Nothing to see here.

Pres conference is today. It make passed already but we will see if Adam Silver will throw the book at Sterling. Not sure what league rules Adam has. Suspending him with spinsters jumpin ship might hit his money and then force him to sell. Knowing him though if he's defiant he might hold out. The precedent was when the old Reds owner Marge Schott was a seething racist whom hates Asians, Blacks, and Jews and was a open Neo-nazi lover. Baseball squeezed her out by suspending her for life but it still took 3 years for her to sell the team after she was squeezed by the league.

^^ I imagine yes. The NBA would look bad if it didn't. And that would harm its finances. And at the end of the day it is all about money.

I bet if Silver didn't come out strong enough, marketing partners like Kia who dropped the clippers might have dropped the entire NBA. Just speculation on my part.

All about the benjamins.

I didn't hear about that Kia bit. Silver just said he expected the 3/4 vote to be a formality.

Silver just gained a ton of respect around the league. He laid the hammer down as strong as he could without forcing a sale, where he handed that responsibility to the owners.

Quite a great intro to the job for him.

^^ Like I said I was speculating on what would have happened if the NBA didn't do something solid. If the NBA did something weak the backlash might have been bigger and punished the entire NBA. Then the marketers would have had to make a bigger decision.

Instead Silver laid the max punishment he could drop on Sterling. So no one is going to say - "You are weak you should have done more."

It also sends a major message to the rest of the owners.

Fate whispers to the warrior, "You cannot withstand the storm." And the warrior whispers back, "I am the storm."

There is still a legality aspect though. This is America, you can't force a mans property out of his hands. Sterling still owns HIS team. He is banned from the "Association" but the Clippers are still HIS property. He can troll and sit still owning and bleeding money just to make a point. No court can force him to sell his property.

No offense, but you're stating a lot of factually incorrect information as it pertains to this discussion.

You're looking at this from some sort of Constitutional standpoint, but the NBA is it's own entity, and has it's own Constitution and bylaws.

If you read up on that, you'll see that there are clauses in the league's constitution that allow them to do what they're going to do.

Better yet, read recent articles written by Michael McCann and Lester Munson, and you'll become more informed on this particular topic.

RE: The NBA Thread
Does the NBA is constitution and bylaws say anything about making decisions which will materially affect the market value of a franchise or is there a catchall in place at minimum. If not, it stands to reason Sterling could be forced to sell at a below market value and may be able to sue for the difference. (I have 0 idea as to US law or the NBA constitution)

Either way, Sterling is a rich man. He's 81, those words will hurt his pride more than they will hurt his bank account. Even if he loses 100 million. He probably makes that a year on his investments. While it's easy to hate on him, he was regardless of what we say, raised in an entirely different time than any of the posters in this board. (tenderman being the exception) I find it pretty ironic though that a guy who dislikes a race goes out an buys an NBA team. I mean that would be like hating white people and buying a polo team.

It's interesting how his wife seemingly doesn't care about his indiscretions. Guy is very lucky in regard to that. He'd have a lot bigger headache on his hands if his wife were to leave him.

His wife used to pose as a government inspector and go into their tenants' apartments so she could document what race they were and how they were living in the apartments.

She was also named in the housing discrimination lawsuit.

She's just as racist as she is.

I mean come on, the day she publicly denounced his behavior, she was photographed going out to dinner with him that same evening.

You can't be married to a man for 50 years and not know who he is nor share his ideology. Women typically adopt the ideologies of the men in their lives, because remember, they are followers, not leaders.

This chick V. Stiviano is just Alexandra Castro part deux. Look her up, and you'll see he has a history of being a trick for these women, and then getting caught in a jam when SHTF.

I just read up on the Alexandra Castro thing, I didn't realize this wasn't the first time he'd been caught with a mistress. While it would seem they are tricking him, I'd say it's just as much the other way around. He probably spends 1% of what he makes annually on these girls.

The best part of the whole story is him receiving awards from NAACP and his donations which don't seemingly make sense based on what we are led to believe his ideologies are.

I say they should have banned him for the playoffs. Then they should require any player wanting out to be traded. I guarantee you every player would leave, and the organization would find it impossible to bring in any talent. Fans would boycott and Sterling would have to basically sell the team to keep any finances that he has left. It would be the ultimate humiliation and it would be done as a collective voice of the people.

However, people would look at Silver as a bitch if he tried this. The mindless drones don't see the big picture or have the patience to see it pan out. It would be much more rewarding, but it won't happen.

So... Seattle Clippers 2015-2016 season?

Impossible to find talent?

I don't know many guys that would sit home going broke versus working for a guy paying him a couple/several million per year no matter how big a douche he may be.

The Clippers would have zero problem fielding a team.

You sure? I'm not one whom has just been immersed into sports business drama from this incident. It has been a loose hobby of mine for years now.

The NBA dosnt have Anti-Trust exemptions like baseball which has historically been able to do many things other Corporate structure could never get away with. All the NBA is is a Association of owners whom have a organizational framework (the league) that supports their controlled interests (their franchises), It's no fuking different then the organizational structure McDolnalds grants to its Franchise owners. Go read up on how Al Davis sued the NFL when they tried to dick around with his money and interests and won. The NBA has open wounds just like any other Corp and if they act hostile towards Sterling in response to media pressure, without due process met, then Sterling has every right to sue the shit out of them and keep his franchise.

Banning him from the organizational realm (the league) does not solve the question of what do with his controlled property (the franchise). All the league can do is twist rules to make it harder for him to do business. Such as veto'ing any type of league transaction his under-person makes going forward etc; essentially just making it impossible for the team to function while he still around. Then that would force him to sell. But they have no power to take away property from another man.

RE: The NBA Thread
I doubt most of the team would even leave. The reality is most of them probably don't care. While on camera they may talk about what a big deal it is...do you think it really matters to them. At the end of the day, they get paid and they get paid well. Mr. Sterling could say things far worse and would still easily be able to field a team.

Its simply supply and demand. There are a lot more people who want to play in the nba than there are spots.
