As a Celtics fan I'm thanking LeBron for clearing the East of competition.

LeBron 76ers would be tough.

BTW speaking of the East I think Kyrie Irving may bolt to the NY Knicks this summer.

How is it even entertaining at this point to watch basketball? Why bother playing 81 games + playoffs? Warriors way too loaded. (And I was not saying this last year.)

The NBA will suck until they can get this issue under control.

In hockey for example at the start of the season you could probably argue that are 10+ teams that a legitimate shot of winning the cup, in the NBA for the last couple years it's only been a 2-3 horse race with GS being the clear favourite.

I would say it is now a 1 horse race unless top teams in the west have guys willing to eat fines/suspensions to injure warriors (they don't.)

With the DeMarcus Cousins move to Golden State, I think Kawhi Leonard for sure will find a way to sign the dotted line with the Lakers. LeBron James & Magic Johnson probably having dinner with him these next couple nights to discuss the details lol. We should get a press release within a few days.

I hear you. This latest iteration of the Golden State Warriors appears unbeatable on paper.

Lakers are quietly building a team of interesting role players around LeBron James though. Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, Javale McGee, etc. I'm sure they're not done yet. I'm not saying the Lakers will dethrone the Warriors, but this is going to be a totally new-look team.

Spurs won't slit their throat. Kawaii is acting like a punk and if he sits out a year it will create a complicated CBA situation and he won't get paid. He will get to LA but it won't be till next year. No way Pop gifts the Lakers that layup, especially now with the foolishness of Golden State. NBA gets the hype it wants but this stuff is making regular fans rage out. Why even a he season? Golden State now has a starting 5 of All-NBA caliber players. People are struggling to find a comparable, it may be the greatest starting 5 ever put on a court outside of an Olympics.

JaVale, Rondo, & Stevenson all have reputations as being bad teammate head cases. You can't have more than one of those kind of players on your team.

They still have Ball and Kuzma who write and record rap diss tracks about each other, and the mess circus of Ball's father.

I think that the Lakers are going to blow up in an entertaining fashion.

Isn't DeMarcus Cousins just a Rich Man's Tristan Thompson? He's never made any of his teams better. Even his loaded all star Kentucky team underperformed? I understand that correcting that perception is why he chose to play with the Warriors over his friend John Wall's Wizards (who just dumped their center and seemed to be making a play for Cousins).

RE: The NBA Thread
Eh I think the warriors are just an injury away from losing. If all of their starters are healthy, they are going to be tough to stop. Rockets could do it. Not sure who all else the Lakers can get but LeBron helps obviously. Next summer they give a max deal to kawhi. They may try to make a trade mid season.

But cousins to the warriors for a one year $5 million just seems like overkill. Curry would probably have to get hurt for another team to overtake them like the rockets or spurs or lakers

These guys might be known as head cases, but a lot of guys tend to shut up around LeBron. Lol. Michael Jordan used to have a similar effect on his teammates as well.

They know if they want a shot at winning the whole thing they have to stick with the commander's game plan. And on LeBron's teams he is the captain of the ship moreso than the coach himself.

None of those players (Ball, Rondo, Javale, Stevenson) can shoot either. Among them, only Stevenson plays defense.

This Lakers team will be a train wreck.

Nate Bronze says they are a 52 win team.

Also, lots of disrespect to teams such as Utah and San Antonio. Where does this Lakers squad fit in the top 8? They are a 7th sees at best which is just minced meat for any of the west too seeds to feast on. Aside from the Pelicans I don't see any other West team falling off, I think Denver is better and Dallas may oddly compete for a last seed as well. Lakers still stuck in that 7-10 range.

Lebrons likely just waiting for 2 seasons until GS gets weak with the contract demands of thier core.

Ball can play defense. I think Ingram will be key, will he come back from his injury and progress, or stagnate. Between him, Lebron, Ball, and Kuzma, I think they have a solid core, they just wont compare to the Warriors. . .. but again nobody will. Assuming they dont trade anyone, I think they have a shot at being no3 in the West skillwise, but they probably wont place that high in the standings because it will take at least half the season for everything to gel. They do need to try to find a "3&D" guy since they have so many players with great offball movement.

RE: The NBA Thread
Opinions on Kawhi and Danny Green for Derozan Jakob Poetl and 1st round pick?

I'm excited to see the spurs next year. They won 48 games without Kawhi so adding another all-star will be huge for them. The west gets tougher.

Other forums are talking about loyalty (and how could they trade derozan like that) but being loyal doesn't make you a good GM. The raptors were stuck in that really good but not championship caliber team spot and it was either blow it up soon or go all in. Even if Kawhi leaves I think it's smart for the raptors to go all in this year, one more try.

They could also be using Kawhi as a trade piece. It's reported that he doesn't want to play for the raptors. Either way I think it's a win-win. If dude plays he needs to play well because he's sat out a year. He wants max money and needs to show that he's a max player.

I also hope Kawhi stops being a hoe.

RE: The NBA Thread
It’s laughable that Kosko still posts here and tries to act like I didn’t own him regarding our Boston Celtics bet that they would make the conference finals. Keep in mind this bet was made before Hayward or Kyrie went down and I called both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum having breakout seasons.

At the very least I thought the guy would keep his word and pay up on our bet which was made in this thread around this time last year. The guy talks a big game but id be completely shocked if he ever played the game on any kind of meaningful level.

Also the notion that Lonzo Ball doesn’t play defense is a joke.. he was top 5 at PG according to all of the important defensive analytics such as real plus minus.

Lakers will easily win 48+ games and most likely finish in the top 4 of the conference this season. After that I am definitely expecting them to get a title or two under LeBron’s four years. Everyone talks about the lakers shooting problems but Ingram, kuzma KCP and josh hart are all serviceable shooters. Their draft picks, Mo Wagner and Svi Mikayluk, are great shooters as well and I expect them to be rotation players even as rookies.

Further, lonzo shot 41% from 3 in college and now that he will be able to catch and shoot more I’d expect him to shoot at least 35% from 3 this year. Anyone who has played the game knows it’s MUCH easier to shoot off the catch than off the dribble.

Also the guy who said javale McGee doesn’t play defense is crazy. The only reason javale is even in the league is because of his rim protection and his ability to switch on screens compared to most other big men.
