Gorillas are pretty big and strong and they are vegetarian. The simple truth for beginners is to eat natural foods and exercise. If you do just those 2 things you will be healthier. For right now It doesn't really matter that you are a naturally fatter guy. Pick a proven workout that is challenging that you will do (most important part is you do it) and you will see results. Best of luck.

Priorities
Better myself mentally>Better myself physically>Picking up girls

Lift weights: Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift, Shoulder Press. Don't dick around with machines, learn the proper stuff. If you're not confident to learn on your own and don't have a friend to show you, hire a personal trainer, tell them you want to bulk up.

Eat: nuts, rice, beans, cheese, milk, oats, whey powder.

Cut the sugar out, it's doing nothing for you. Switch to wholemeal, it has more protein and fibre.

Tbh, I think nuts are the key here. You might think they're expensive, but they're the same price as meat, so don't be a cheapskate. You want to get about 100g of nuts a day, for protein and the essential fats they contain. Fats build testosterone, this is something to remember.

After you have begun lifting weights (more important than changing your diet), I would suggest counting how many calories you eat in an average day. Same with protein. You probably eat the right amount of starchy carbs anyway. If you're really putting full effort into a decent workout routine, you could need up to 3000 calories. If you eat this many, you will eat enough protein, I guarantee you.

Have a steadfast determination to meet your goals. Believe: You will lift more, you will overcome, you will be something more than you were yesterday. The gym is not a chore, it is a place for you to hunt down the weaknesses inside yourself, and destroy them.

But if that doesn't work, you can start another thread.

Sugar is another silent killer.

Others include: stress, fatigue

If you are new to weight training and you go regularly (4-6 times per week) for 1 hour training sessions you will quickly gain muscle and strength. Get yourself a good book on weight lifting exercises (there are hundreds out there) and eat lots of protein 150 grams per day and have 7 hours of sleep per day. After some time the early period of quick relatively easy gains will stop and you will need to work harder to see muscle gains. You need to vary your routine every 3-4 week and remember that substantial muscle gain takes many years not months.

Watch out for the sugars in alot of vegetables. These are my staples that I try to make where I get the bulk of my calories:

Black Beans, Lentils, Black Eyed peas
Mushrooms
Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinach
Low fat cottage cheese, mozzarella (a bit more fat)
Eggs
Peanuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Almonds

I like this site for info on nutritional data of various foods: http://nutritiondata.self.com/

Does anyone here have experience with seitan/wheat gluten/mock duck? I recently picked up a bunch of vital wheat gluten at the store and have made seitan a few times but am a bit wary - there's alot of propoganda on the internet about celiac's disease.
