RE: The Soccer Thread
One of the reasons English fans (often mistaken for actual hooligans) get attacked is because we invented hooliganism, so it's seen as an extra-special scalp — kind of like beating your older brother in an arm wrestle once you get older. It's almost a sign of respect in a very odd system of values.

The reason why Italian ultras have particular hate towards English fans is because of the Heysel tragedy. That's my last hooligan-themed post.

I'm fucking well excited about tonight's match!

RE: The Soccer Thread
Die hard Liverpool fan. My stomach is in knots. Massively excited for tonight. I've spent all morning setting up my parent's television so that the match can be streamed in HD without any problems or interruptions. I ended up watching a load of boxing highlights with my dad (he was a good fighter in his day, and it's one of those things we have a deep common love for) to make sure the streaming was all working perfectly and not buffering.

I've been getting text messages from my friends ribbing me all morning. I love days like today, I'm bantering with good friends I haven't spoken to in months; there's some pretty funny stuff being thrown my way. I've been giving as good as I get, but I'm being assailed from all sides. It's great that everyone uses an event like this to get back in touch. I miss a lot of these guys, and there's no prospect of reunion any time in the near future, so it's really good to have a moment that brings back all the warmth and affection, and rivalry, of many happy years spent inseparably in each other's company.

Glad to hear about you bonding with your Dad over a sport we both love. In regards to streaming, it's on for free on BT Sport's Youtube channel, just so you know.

Goodness me, Loris Karius, the Liverpool goalkeeper, has had an absolute shocker tonight.

I just can't believe he had the balls to even attempt something like that, a goal for ages for sure. It will be interesting to see where he will be next season.

I feel bad for poor Karius and his two huge mistakes. He needs some real balls to overcome this. Don't think he'll ever play for liverpool after this though.

RE: The Soccer Thread
Madrid absolutely got away with that. Injuring Salah was obviously pre-meditated. Ramos is a cunt for that, but Madrid played the right game. Liverpool are too nice.

Salah going off changed the entire complexion of the game, but Karius handed that to Madrid. I doubt he'll recover from that and appear on the big stage again. Absolutely inexcusable and as a manager, you have to be ruthless now and buy a top class keeper. Moreno cost Liverpool the EL final and Karius this one.

You can't practice the exact way you tumble on someone. Nonsense that it was premeditated. Madrid are just very, very good in European competitions. And, of course, Karius having a very bad night.

Could of been somewhat premeditated, looked like he hooked his arm and drove him down. He's a cunt anyway.

Life is cruel, but football can be even more so. Feel terrible for Karius and especially Salah who will now miss the World Cup. Ramos foul was a blatant attempt to cause injury and harm, the way he gripped and pulled on his arm, as well as his reaction afterwards (not to mention his long history of being a supreme cunt) leaves no doubt in my mind.

RE: The Soccer Thread
Liverpool were terrible in the second half, did they even have any decent chances to score? They decided to bring on a substitute for the last ten minutes in hope of changing things and then not long after, Karius lets in a goal that wouldn't seem out of place in a women's football match. I think I saw the best goal I've ever seen in a Champion's League Final followed by the worst goal I've ever seen.

RE: The Soccer Thread
I knew that Liverpool would heavily rely on Salah, but I was still surprised at how they seemed to completely fall apart once he went off injured. The first 20 minutes, Madrid could barely get our of their own half, Liverpool were slicing through their midfield and defence. Then once the injury occurred, they fell apart, lost all confidence, sloppy mistakes started to occur and though the odd magical pass or through ball still occurred, during periods of the second half, they struggled to string passes together.
Regarding Ramos, while I don't want to believe that it was intentional, he's a top of the range arsehole who's theatrics are Broadway worthy, so I wouldn't put it past him. You guys see how he went down when Maine clipped him while getting the ball in the last 20 minutes or so, resulting in the first yellow card of the game? You would of thought that he had been shot.

RE: The Soccer Thread
The Ramos incident was intentional in the sense that he was clearly trying to pull him to the ground, albeit in a sneaky manner. I doubt his intent was to seriously injure Salah, although I'm sure he will lose not a wink of sleep about it all.

Of course the match will be remembered for Bale and Karius, the former equally as brilliant as the latter was bad. I'm not sure there's a way back for Karius, he's like a German Almunia for the Arsenal fans on here. He looked dodgy from the start, but he'd do a thing or two that made you think that somewhere in there is a good player. He'd find a way to have a spell of a few months without incident...and then in the biggest moment he'd do something daft and remind you why you always thought he was shit from the start. That's just the way some people are.

Finally, Zidane has to go down as one of the better managers of our time. I feel as though people write his success off as beginner's luck but there's no getting around what he's done. 3 CL in a row while having a profit of 20m Euros or so in the transfer window. This season they had to beat PSG, Juventus, Bayern and Liverpool in the knockout stages, and of course in the final he gets it right with his substitution making the difference. Should really put to bed the talk of him being sacked for a few years or so.

The Liverpool goalkeeper must be kicking himself. Impressed with Real Madrid threepeat. Does that put them on par with Beckenbauer's Bayen Munich of the 1970's?

Karius may never live that down.

RE: The Soccer Thread
Karius is broken, you have to feel for him. Was always a risk putting so much pressure and responsibility on a 23-year old, and in this case he cracked. Don't really blame Klopp for it either given that their only other option was Mignolet.

I don't see Karius recovering from this at Liverpool, I honestly think the best thing for him would be to leave the EPL for another league (possibly back to the Bundesliga) for a fresh start.

Liverpool may need to spend big this summer for a quality goalkeeper, it's been holding them back for years now.

Haha that's a good one. Made me laugh. Sometimes you need a nasty player like him to win matches though — sure he's a nice enough bloke off the pitch, jokes aside. Gary Neville has discussed top level sports and how it's about pushing the rules as far as legally acceptable to get the edge. Sorry for the quality, but it's an interesting video that explains the mentality of serial winners. Guys, watch it in entirety before replying.
