It's almost impossible to get a license for a pistol in the UK and if you spend 2k us on an illegal gun expect 7 years in jail.hust for having it. A replica gun can get you three years if a member if the public sees it an calls the police and sys they feel under threat. Even a stun gun or pepper can get you prosecuted under the same firearms laws.

It is possible to own a gun here (Brasil)for people +25 but it is almost always illegal to carry your gun outside home. Not sure about Uruguay but it is not like somebody would ever need a gun there , meanwhile in Paraguay...only counterfeit guns mrgreen

I don't currently own any guns, but as a tip to everyone interested, NEVER BUY FROM A GUN SHOP. You'll have to register the firearm, and you DO NOT want Uncle Sam to know you have guns. My stepdad works for his state's government in a field where gun use is a small component of his work, and he's only got two registered firearms, while he owns more than 2 dozen different guns. He always buys from private dealers. When gun control laws get tightened, your guns will be confiscated if the gov't knows you have them.

it's easy enough to just make your own gun in that situation

They were trying to pass a bill to where you have to register if you buy from gun shows now but to be honest I don't think it passed.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
Remember a handgun is a handgun and a rifle is a rifle. Handguns aren't carried because they effective, they're carried because they are convenient and easily concealed. I would recommend getting the most powerful caliber you are comfortable firing and then train with it as much as possible. I own handguns in 9mm, .45 ACP and .357mag carrying the .45 most days of the week. Most of the major players make a quality handgun especially Glock, S&W, Ruger and Springfield Armory. I know MASS isn't the most firearms friendly in the Union but I am pretty sure you can still get your hands on an AR or AK pattern rifle with relative ease. If neither are available the Ruger Mini-14 or Mini-30 are both great, compact rifles that will fly under almost any weapons ban. If they're to far out of your budget maybe a Kel-Tec SU-16A or a Saiga in either .223 or 7.62x39

A 12 gauge or 20 gauge is the best gun to own for home defense. Imagine breaking into a home then hearing that "clickclack.".
When shooting a 20 gauge full of shot rather than a slug you dont have to worry so much about accuracy. It wouldnt be easy shooting a moving intruder in the dark with a handgun.

I used to have one, my step dad made it. It wasn't a cannon like that one, but a lot of fun.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
I'm probably one of the few people who dislike guns that still has one. Basically, a Remington 12 gauge at home with a substantial amount of ammo and looking to buy a handgun in the near future... the way I see it, it's basically $500 worth of insurance against race riots or a natural disaster situation which is very likely with earthquakes in LA.

I heard differing schools of thought on the intimidation factor of hearing a pump shotgun being racked. My gun enthusiast friends say that it'll scare the shit out of any hoodlum at your door looking to cause harm, but my cop friends say that shit's overrated.

My stepdad taught me how to reload. Rarely even bought ammo. He was a pretty paranoid gun owner.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
I've been shooting for over 10 years. Self taught. My parents weren't into guns, I kind of got into them on my own with a friend and have been a pro-gun guy ever since I was a teenager. I taught myself how to shoot, but later on I took several 2-3 day classes taught by ex special forces soldiers, swat guys, and complete fucking yahoos. I know a lot about guns. Not everything, but way more than the average gun owner.

If you wanna start shooting and buy a pistol, whether its for sport, or for home defense, and you don't know anything about guns I would suggest taking a 2 day class for beginners from a reputable shooting school. They have em all over the US, but people travel to get to the good ones. It'll be the best few hundred dollars you can spend in terms of making sure you can operate a pistol safely, learn how to shoot it accurately, and own it responsibly.

That said, go shoot everything you can get your hands on until you find something you like. But as far as pistols go, from my perspective you can't beat Glocks for all around ease of maintenance, accuracy, price, value, reliability, and style. But if you're not gonna go with a glock, a 1911 style pistol is the way to go. They are more difficult to maintain, but nothing is more accurate and nothing is faster. They were invented to shoot 45 caliber ammo, but they make em in 9mm as well as other calibers. I would beware of them though, because the gun wasn't built to shoot those rounds and a lot of the cheaper models haven't been correctly modified to shoot the lighter bullet. So stick with 45 if you're gonna go 1911, unless you wanna drop 2k plus on a nice model. I have a $3,000 dollar 1911 made by Wilson combat that is stellar.

RE: Anybody here own a firearm?
maybe I'm an idiot, but it seems to me that guns are super simple.
step 1: point the end with the hole at whatever you want to die.
step 2: pull the lever until it dies.

if, by chance, you DON'T want something to die, then don't point the hollow end at it.
don't see why the average person would need any more than a few hours of instruction.

Ive got a 45acp Glock. Its all I need-13 rds of .45 is no bs. I sleep well with it beside me. I can hit silver dollars at 25m with it and some Hornady ammo.

PS=
Any Germans here- I always wondered if they could own guns in Germany,Poland, or Czech Republic (3 countries whos women I want to bang senseless)?

USP compact is one of my favorite pistols.

I tend to outshoot people at the range with their own gun and my gun. For a pistols
9mm go Sig P226 or Glock 19
40 sw go Sig P229 or Glock 23
45 acp go glock 30 or HK full size USP

Only highly tuned 1911s ($1200+) and Sigs tend to be the most accurate.

Sig is the best just make sure yours is made in Germany (been hearing their newer American made pistols are lower quality), Id get a nice used Sig.

If you go get FFL get a Glock-cheap and bs free reliability (w/ decent accuracy).

A man should own a gun.

I have a 12 gauge tactical shotgun that sits on the windowsill above my bed. 7+1. All bird shot. And that +1 is always in the chamber. If a noise wakes me up, I reach above my head and flip the safety off. Pressure switch on the handgrip for a tac light.

Ive only been startles enough to grab it twice. But you better believe that those two times I was loaded for bear and ready to defend my castle. Turned out to be false alarms, but I wouldve been scared shitless had I not had it.

And females have commented on it. Ive had two straight up tell me they feel a lot safer in my bed than theirs because of my shotty just sitting there ready to throw some hate down on an intruder.

Any particular reason you load it with bird shot instead of buck?

On the farm we have a 9mm, a .357 and a 12 gauge.

I'm not sure about that hoops330, the scatter from a shotgun at close range is negligible to the point that you wouldn't be much better off than you would be with a handgun. In addition, a round of buck from a 12 gauge is going to rip through most home walls and could endanger anyone else in the house.

Shotguns still remain the king of close quarters combat for one simple reason. Stopping power. It will end a fight immediately if you can hit someone. The lower threshold of handguns however, you may need to put several rounds into someone before they are unable to fight back, their stopping power is generally sufficient though starting at the .357 and up range, below that you could be in trouble.

I used to have lots of guns, then I lost them in a tragic boating accident.

I carry a Glock 21 with Warren sights most of the time, in a leather pancake holster. What else I have doesn't matter because the Glock is what I'll have ready to hand, even in bed, if I need to shoot something.
