RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
Been of the poo for well over a year now. Only problems I've had other than in the beginning stages were moving from Florida back up to the northeast recently. I think the weather change caused some dandruff issues. I washed with baking soda more often and it seemed to help.

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
I wash my hair with american crew daily moisterizing shampoo about every 1.5 -2 weeks and my hair is very soft, with no dandruff or itchy scalp. I like the shampoo because it doesnt have a strong scent, although it does smell nice. And it also seems to work well for my thick hair. I feel like I finally have my hair game on lock

Three years in, no 'poo is a way of life now. I wash with baking soda once in a while.

Which brand (s) of coconut oil are you guys recommend?
Also, I have a greasy skin, if I don't wash my hair 1 day the smell of my head is not so good (I'm afraid to do this test). I have a very straight hair so I need to use some get or wax for modeling, which product do I have to use? someone mentioned American Crew pomade?

I'm thinking of using some baking soda (cleaning) and tea tree oil (antifungal) to get the seborrhoeic dermatitis under control for the first few days.

Will report back.

How are other no-pooers doing?

One month in. Hair is soft and shiny.

Dandruff seems under control. Best combo I've found is baking soda + a few drops of tea tree oil.

I've used baking soda and ACV rinse. Hair feels great afterwards, what sucks is the smell of vinegar seems to linger for days.

Are you guys Washing your hair every day (water only) ?
Not sure I could do that. I wash my body with natural soaps and still use bad shampoo full of chemicals.

My hairs aren't long ( blades 1.5 on sides and 3inches on top) and get an haircut every 4weeks. Should be long to get the oil doing its magic I guess. But what if she wash it before cutting. Start over?

When are you using baking soda? Once a week?

I thought i was crazy for wanting to stop using shampoo.. because i felt that it totally destroyed my hair, and it always looked better after a couple of weeks of no shampoo. I guess im not alone in realizing this..

The dandruff and itchy scalp is an issue and it's the only reason i wash my hair with shampoo once a month.

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
This is my current regimen.

- Wet baking soda to dry hair. Rinse.
- One drop jojoba oil. Rinse.
- Two drops tea tree oil. Let sit for about three minutes. Rinse.
- Coconut oil immediately after getting out of the shower.

I do this every 3 to 4 days and make sure to massage everything into my scalp.

This combined with cold showers seems to have cured my dandruff and has my looking and feeling amazing. Not too oily, not too dry. Has a good natural hold and great texture.

I've gotten rid of the dandruff before, but then I neglect some part of the process and it comes back. Before adding the tea tree oil, I think my mistake was not being consistent enough with the coconut oil. But it also could have been the water temperature, since I change that recently also.

Not really sure, but this has been working for me and I'm going to stick to this exact plan from now on.

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
What about using your body soap for your hair?
I use an hemp soap made with organic olive, hemp and coconut oils.

I guess it would be better than a shampoo and still hydrate my head.
I've been trying to find an alternative to Dove's shampoo since few months and since 3days I use my soap bar on my head and seems to have good results.
Didn't wanted to start a thread for a question and felt like it could count as no shampoo since its my natural soap bar.

I got poo in my hair about 6 months in.. not an enjoyable experience. I've haven't touched poo in around 18 months other then that one time. I think i'm successfully rehabilitated.

Have been doing this for about six months and my hair has honestly never been better. I shower twice a day and just rinse it under the cold water. I have no dandruff and I am saving cash by not buying shampoo, win win

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
I was told by a professional hair stylist that I should use shampoo at most once a day and wash my hair at night if I took an evening shower. If not, just wash it in the morning.

Since then, I've been using shampoo once or twice a week - if at all - and my hair looks and feels much better now.

Make every day count.

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
Been doing the no shampoo thing for 3 weeks now, results are good, this thing is real!

My hair is the perfect unholy combination of the individual hairs being very thing and not so numerous in the front. When I used shampoo, after the shower those hairs had 0 hold, they would flap about in every direction and basically but completely flattened against my head so I had to get some kind of volume in there using wax. if I used pomade, they would clump together, because heavy and cling to the head again.

Now after no 'poo, the natural oils actually makes them have volume and hold. haven't actually needed any product to style the hair because it's not flopping around in all direction anymore. when I get the feeling that the oils are building up, a bit of baking soda and boom, hair is fine again

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
I started no shampoo in May of 2014. My hair is easier to tame even when it's not wet, it's less oily in the morning before I shower, and I'm not losing as many hairs day to day. My hair used to be very dry and brittle once it dried off from the shower and humidity would make it poof up, and while wet it would cling to low to my head. Now it has a much more consistent volume and humidity has almost no effect.

Also my beard improved significantly when shampoo stopped getting anywhere near it. I was not shampooing my beard but I figured out my beard was itching from shampoo running down into it from rinsing off. I have been growing out my beard since mid-October, and this is the longest I've gone without feeling the need to shave to relieve the skin on my face.

I'm only washing it with barely-not-cold water once or twice a day and I rub baking soda into it pre-shower once a week.

I started the no-shampoo challenge when I cut my hair before last summer and have been without shampoo ever since. My hair has never felt better and my life-long problem with dandruff has finally ended. I highly recommend to stop using shampoo for all.

I've been about a month of poo now ever since I shaved my head. No dandruff, hair holds in place well and looks/feels good. I have just been washing it with water and soap. Not sure if soap is ok but after being sweaty I feel it is needed?

Will try baking soda soon but need to look into it more since it feels strange to be getting a kitchen ingredient to wash my hair.

Soap is worse than shampoo, which was invented to be less harsh than soap.

Wtf soap? Why would you even use shampoo/soap when your hair is shaved off anyway, I don't get it

Backing soda removes smell but also removes too much of the natural oils for me. I'm hoping conditioner can remove smell but keep the natural oils. Does anyone know of alternatives? How do people use tea tree oil?

RE: The No-Shampoo Challenge
Since I never did update this, here's how it went: I had to stop after about a week. I've got oily hair so I'm not sure if that was the problem but it was also a little long. So I think this only works if your hair is pretty short ie. around one inch.
