RE: WTF is the "Dandy" movement?
There was some serious thought behind this stuff, it's been happening since the 1800s or earlier, but in the 1800's serious thinkers like Baudelaire commented on the philosophy behind it :

Charles Baudelaire, in the later, "metaphysical" phase of dandyism[5] defined the dandy as one who elevates æsthetics to a living religion,[6] that the dandy's mere existence reproaches the responsible citizen of the middle class: "Dandyism in certain respects comes close to spirituality and to stoicism" and "These beings have no other status, but that of cultivating the idea of beauty in their own persons, of satisfying their passions, of feeling and thinking .... Contrary to what many thoughtless people seem to believe, dandyism is not even an excessive delight in clothes and material elegance. For the perfect dandy, these things are no more than the symbol of the aristocratic superiority of his mind."

Most of these "dandies" are gay. That's not hate, just putting it in perspective. It's (primarily) a gay subculture.

RE: WTF is the "Dandy" movement?
There is no dandy movement.

You guys are out of the loop with current trends.

There are no movements.

Movements are political. Everything now is about being a non-movement.

And why is it ok for black people to dress old school, but white people are gay or posers?

Any kind of movement that starts now are people who are discovering some meme way after it peeked and adapting as their banner.

I love this forum, but there really is a general lack of what's in style here.

Why is that a problem?

Girls are tribal creatures and some will fuck you if you rock the right kind of hat or jacket. If a girl thinks it shows that you are in with the cool, then you're golden. That's the ugly-beautiful truth that no amount of weight lifting can change. This is true especially in NYC where girls will open you if you have a style that appeals to them.

So stop your small-town whining. Your little world view is destroyed in a big city. And, I'd bet my big city world view is destroyed in your bumble-fuck town.

Are you having a meltdown or something? You seem really angry about something. . .but I don't get what that is.

Nah, you might be projecting.

I go out a lot, and I'm aware of a lot of different scenes in NYC.

A lot of what we talk about here as far as fashioned is concerned can work, but I know from my own experience, that having some fashionable item can be a game changer. I once went out in a sequined jacket and girls were coming up to me that night- five exactly.

The problem is that on this forum, as far as I've read in the archives, we don't deal with any kind of fashion that isn't classic/timeless or bro-ish.

Fashion can signify a lot. Obviously, you need the game to back it up. I've had girls open me up while I was wearing stuff that most guys on here would think was homo or Mystery Method etc.

I don't wear fuzzy hats or any of that whack shit from the early 2000s.

There are some trends to take note of if you want to penetrate certain scenes. Baggy pants are bad fashion. Most 1990s fashion is bad.

I know guys who dress old timey or dandy that get access to girls that I haven't been able to bang, and I'm a child of this forum and the big manosphere blogs.

I like that we get down to the essentials/absolutes here, but sometimes it's good to incorporate stuff that is flamboyant.

Muscles are fashion items as well. Yeah, they can have function, but it is the form that attracts the women, not the function.

RE: WTF is the "Dandy" movement?
If dressing and acting like that helps some guys pull then power to them. One annoying thing I've noticed about the manosphere and pick up is that one guy will do something, then people just copy them in hopes to get the same results. I bet for the next 100 guys who try to to the dandy thing 95 will get nothing, it just doesn't vibe well with who they are.

My point is to stop following and develop your own style and vibe based on your own interests and personality. In my case, I'd describe myself as chill, interesting, funny, and able to talk about about diverse subjects. I'm also a man's man. I have no interest in using this guys style. Seriously if I ever dressed or acted like this guy, my friends and family would probably initiate a beatdown.

With that said there are several successful methods of pulling. A girl who wants an off the wall dandy type or that super high energy guy is not going to go for me. Doesn't bother me in the least.

Dandies are proof that peacocking works. These guys fuck hipster chicks. It works. Don't get mad, there's no point. Just proof that there's plenty of pussy to go around.

Interesting, thanks. I'm not a specialist of dandyism, but IMO it actually went much further than the only delight in material elegance. I guess that in the 19th century real dandies shared most of the traits of the Byronic hero.

The Byronic hero typically exhibits several of the following traits:
Arrogant
Cunning and able to adapt
Cynical
Disrespectful of rank and privilege
Emotionally conflicted, bipolar, or moody
Having a distaste for social institutions and norms
Having a troubled past or suffering from an unnamed crime
Intelligent and perceptive
Jaded, world-weary
Mysterious, magnetic and charismatic
Rebellious
Seductive and sexually attractive
Self-critical and introspective
Self-destructive
Socially and sexually dominant
Sophisticated and educated
Struggling with integrity
Treated as an exile, outcast, or outlaw

Many of those traits are a turn-on for women BTW. In my opinion, many so-called "Alpha" guys could learn from Byronic heroes.

Muscles are fashion items as well. Yeah, they can have function, but it is the form that attracts the women, not the function.

I'm sure this is fine advice for guys in NYC, but outside of there and a few other very limited locales it just doesn't apply.

Something I've noticed about New Yorkers, especially native ones I've known over the years-they are very provincial; meaning that to them, NYC is the world, and they have great difficulty understanding or sympathizing with environs and cultures outside of it.

When you talk about following whatever this years trend is, or some "scene" or subculture, that just doesn't matter to most guys reading this forum because they will never encounter it. Sometimes these styles, such as the hipster movement, will penetrate outside NYC,but only into certain neighborhoods in certain cities, but mostly they don't.

So telling a guy that a certain look is "in style" or that wearing a certain clothing item will appeal to certain girls who want to be part of a scene doesn't really help because those scenes simply don't exist in the vast majority of the country.

Most guys will do much better adopting classic style or even "bro-ish" than they will going out with a beret and cigarette holder or whatever is considered to send the right social signals in particular NYC neighborhoods at the moment.

I say this as someone who dresses far better than almost any guy in my area and who does peacock-I'll be wearing creamsicle orange pants and white shoes and crazy socks on my date tonight- but I keep it within the classic style and don't try to ape short term trends in a place where I don't live.

I agree with you on this. At least for me. I'm very provincial and would probably be like a fish out of water when if I visited the middle parts of the country. I don't drive..

A lot of what I read on this forum does work in NYC, but I've gotten a much better sense of what guys are dealing with outside of NY from reading it. Grouphug

Yeah, Soup, I didn't mean "provincial" in a derogatory sense and I figured you wouldn't take it that way.

I just didn't want some guy in Omaha reading your posts and going out looking like Oscar Wilde Smile

I met the dude in OP's picture once. He was kind of an ass, but on the whole seemed alright. He was also accompanied by his girlfriend, who was pretty cute.

Despite the discussion going on above, dandies pull A LOT, with a higher volume and better quality of girl than most are used to. Women spend hour upon hour per day thinking about, reading about, & discussing clothing, so of course someone with developed taste is going to do fine with them.
