Good call on Slim Thug, I just downloaded his mixtape "Houston" this afternoon and listened to the whole thing. Legit in my book.

Stillmatic got good reviews, but some how Iron Flag got majorly slept on, in my opinion almost every song on the album is the shit.

Rules is one of my all-time fav Wu Tracks.

I'd have to go through my cd's but off top all of these stayed in my deck for a minute. I know Brotha Lynch Hung is consistently dropping good or at least decent shit if you like west coast rap. You already know about Killa Kyleon so I would get all of his recent mixtapes. I know he's always putting shit out.

Killa Cal Wayne is really good and was making a name for himself but I think he went back to jail.

Big Krit has a few mixtapes and cd's out. I thought it was Pimp C when I first heard him.

I forgot how hard Killa goes, I need to get his new one.

This Scarface came out a few years ago but pretty much anything from Scarface is gonna be good.

K Rino is another one who's dropping a few cd's every year. He has some crazy punchlines and lyrics.

Pitching one of my faves here.
Binary Star - Waterworld/Masters of the Universe

Waterworld was produced on a 500$ budget, with all verses done in one take.

M.o.t.U. is the remixed and rearranged version of Waterworld. I prefer this remix album more than the original.

The group could only tour in Michigan due to probation, and didn't see much national distribution as a result.

Binary Star - Masters of the Universe (Full Album) (2000)

That's why you see real life alphas without chicks. He's doing him.

Real alphas don't tend to have game. They don't tend to care about the emotional lives of the people around them."

That K Rino track is dope.

The more of Killa I hear the more I like his work. Super legit.

I've downloaded 91 mixtapes in the last 24 hours. Some of them that I've listened to so far:

Juicy J - Blue Dream and Lean
Killa Kyleon - Candy Paint N Texas Plates
Killa Kyleon - Candy Paint N Texas Plates 2
Killa Kyleon - Natural Born Killa
Ludacris - A Hustler's Spirit
Slim Thug - Houston
Wale - Mixtape About Nothing
Wale - More About Nothing

And some other mixtape with an intro that sampled the theme to Monday Night Football. Can't think of it right now.

Comin' up on the playlist -

50 Cent - War Angel
Cam'ron - The Purple Mixtape
Elzhi - Elmatic
Game - Purp and Patron
Raekwon - Unexpected Victory

I heard "Blackstar" and "Talib Kwali" were really good?

Any of their albums make this list?

Blackstar is Talib Kweli and Mos Def, they did an album or two back in the day, before they both went the solo route. I used to love their original album when I was a teenager in the late 90's/early 2000's. It's got the quintessential 1990's underground hip hop sound that came out of Rawkus Records in NYC.

While I still think it's a good album, worth listening to, my taste has changed a bit since then. Currently, I'm not that big into Talib Kweli or Mos Def.

Talib Kweli did drop a pretty damn good album about 5 years ago called Eardrum and I recommend that album over all of Talib's other stuff.

one of these two

and one of these two

one of these two

also

this is a definite classic in my book, although i wasn't old enough when it came out the lyricism is phenomenal. beats are alright but eminem wasn't really known for his beats as much as his raw lyrics. back in the day marshall mathers used to live up to the hype. its a shame he's a shell of his former self.

i think this deserves an honorable mention. i love this album

besides that i agree with most of your list. 90's was the golden age for hip-hop definitely but the 2000's had some high points as well. also i prefer the chronic to doggystyle. although both are dope.

Correction to my earlier post: The mixtape I was listening to (and just put back on) is Houston by Slim Thug. The first track samples the FOX Sunday NFL theme song.

Slim Thug's "Houston" title track featuring Paul Wall and Z-Ro:

I never liked Twista. Z-ro sounds a lot better if you like that tongue flipping style.

man i remember from around 2000-2005 i used to download so many hiphop albums/mixtapes/singles(CDS) from this site called realestniggas.

A lot of dirty south stuff remember listening to most of DJ Smallz Southern Smoke mixtapes.

Dangermouse and MF Doom's album was phenomenal! 'Mouse and the Mask'
